  1. I was just reading reviews for the Glory. The person who wrote it made it sound like you needed to use the Carnival app ( the Hub) in order to find out what was going on.  He said paper menus were few and far between, and the daily bulletin was online. How true is this?

I personally hate using my cell phone  for all these functions. Guess I'm just not 'woke' in my old age.

  2. My wife and I have found in general biscuits on a cruise line are poor. You might try it once and if it is not to yur liking, don;t order it again. But quit complaining. Other countries the word might mean something a little different.

I learned that the hard way. I once ordered 'bangers' for breakfast. I'd read books written by British authors and thought banger was just another name for a sausage. I hated what i got. Needless to say , I never ordered again. I watched when another passenger on a later cruise ordered it.They got the same thing but seemed to like it...

I can eat many forms of sausage from boudin to smoked sausage... a  banger is NOT one of them.

  3. I personally do not care about the late night chocolate orgies.

I went the first couple cruises back in the day and indulged almost to excess. Yes, they were impressive. But then I noticed the number of people attending was not that great. I can understand that would be one of the first places to see a cutback.

Main dining room limitations will be  more  problematic for me. I personally do NOT like to eat at the buffet. I eat virtually every meal in the main dining room with the exception of port days when it might be closed for lunch. I like to sit and have my food brought to me. I do NOT like a hundred hands messing with the ladle that serves my food despite prior washing.

  4. Unless they've changed there recipe at some point, Blue Heaven uses real key limes.

True key limes are hard to find, especially commercially. Most have been replaced by Persian limes. Back in the 1920's a hurricane wiped most of the commercial key limes. The true key limes are much smaller and tarter than regular limes.  I'm betting that now they sell ANY lime raised in the area as a "key" lime. Just makes economic sense.

  5. Is the main dining room  available for breakfast daily on the Glory? How about lunch sea days? Personally, I hate going to the buffet. On my last three cruises, (21 days, 63? meals) I ate in the buffet a total of ONCE. I grabbed a hamburger and fries..

  6. We generally buy drugs when in Cozumel. My asthmatic stepson says the inhalers are not quite as strong as the ones he gets in the US, BUT instead of paying $65+ here, we get them for 3 for $25. I also buy a series of other meds that are cheaper than US even with insurance. You just have to know what you want. There are a few shops much higher than others ... Walk down the main drag and look inside. One of our favorite places to shop is a large store selling t-shirts and regular tourist junk but has a large counter to one side selling meds.

  7. I would be willing to bet you will not find a pie using real key limes.... LOL But they'll still taste good.

First time I was introduced to key lime pie was my step-grandfather. His family homesteaded what was is now downtown Miami back in the very early 1900's. Wish now I'd listened to more of his stories. He already had a bit of dementia when i last saw him. I was 21 at the time.

I took a road trip with my 91 year old Dad and we drove to Key west. He lived there during WWII while his Dad worked on the Liberty ships they were making. As a kid my Dad worked part time as 'fire-watch' for the welders.

  8. I just booked on Carnival Glory a mere 2 weeks before sailing. I sent a copy of my holdings the next day. Then I followed with an email. Have not heard a word.

A month ago, I took a last minute Norwegian cruise. Not having time to process the ownership request, I took my statement with me. They honored it immediately.  I hope CCL serves shareholders as well as their competitors do.

  9. Used to be a bucket of beer was pay for five and got the sixth for free. Not a great deal, but better than full price. A 7 dollar beer is not much better than a mixed drink. Well a little considering we are talking  16 oz instead of 12.

'The high price of drinking.. Almost the same as any sports bar here at home.

  10. Does anybody know the procedure for getting distilled water on the ship? I did not see it in the online store. I wondered what it will cost on the ship. I saw somewhere that said you can carry your own if you have it with your CPAP machine, but the smallest size available is a gallon. That is heavy and bulky for a carry-on backpack.

  11. Good reason to close Harvest Caye in my opinion. This is one port of call, I completely dislike. Was there the day they opened and  again last year on the Getaway. It sucked both times. Overpriced and over rated.

Yes, I think the prices recently were significantly increased.  We get two free specialty dinners as Platinum members, but would never spend that amount now.

How do you sign up for reservations for the Platinum meal? I did not want to do it online and get charged. And what is included? A flat amount or whatever you eat?

  13. The beverage package might sound like a good deal, but probably is not when you add the surcharge. We got it on our last cruise on the Dawn as part of a large group booking.

One of the people signed up independently and said he was considering it on his next cruise and asked me to keep track of drinks so he could see if it I thought it worthwhile. I consumed almost 35 mixed drinks. I seemed to be drinking constantly. Days in port I drank there so I did not drink as much on the ship.

Add the surcharge and the program is just too expensive.

  14. I am cruising in January and using the last of my reward points from the old system, $500 worth plus a $100 upgrades for my wife and I.

Has anybody used points earned on the new system? I am NOT happy with it and have considered dropping the card altogether.

I use my BOA card instead of carrying cash and run up close to $2K a month most of the time. I got this card and changed my spending habits for the sole purpose of the cruise rewards.

  15. I have also used my NCL card on a couple previous cruises and plan to again this fall. As a matter of fact, I selected the NCL Spirit from New Orleans BECAUSE of the credit I have accrued on the card. I was hoping for another itinerary but apparently this is the only ship leaving from the Gulf. New Orleans is the only port I can reach by driving that NCL uses.

One question that I had.. can I use some of my points for onboard credit or only for tickets and upgrades?

    thanks
