On my one , and only, Disney cruise, we observed many toddler aged children wearing swim diapers in the pools. Previous to cruising, I also read on the DIS boards many parents suggesting to just skip the toddler swim diapers so no one knows if the little ones are potty trained or not.

    On the budget board?

    :D

I would have said something to a staff member for sure. Our local community pool has been closed several times because of failed swim nappies that the babies wear for lessons.

  2. Hi, I was a bundle of nerves when we cruised on the Ruby in December as none of us had formal dress (as in traditional formal). We had absolutely no issues with anyone, staff or other cruisers, and I was relieved to find that a/ no one seemed to care what anyone else was doing and b/ there were people dressed in all sorts - long and short gowns, blazers, tux, ties and long sleeve shirts, no ties etc etc. There was no way I was buying a suit for my teen or tween and even less way I was going to cart all the extra 'cruise only' clothing around on our 6 week trip. Whatever you wear will be fine. Have a great cruise!

  3. We will be on Ruby Princess end of November cruising along Mexico :)

It doesn't matter about shoes - as part of their school uniform policy they have to wear black shoes that can be polished so they'll have them. I was thinking of geting black pants/slacks/trousers made out of a heavier material that can be also used for the colder weather on the east coast. Dress shirts and ties are also easy to pack.

Before reading the (many) threads on CC re: formal wear, I was all set with black pants/shirt and tie for the boys. Now I'm a little worried as I would hate them to be made to feel uncomfortable because they are not wearing a dinner jacket.

(I'll be packing two black cocktail dresses for myself, and my DD10 has a wardrobe of suitable dresses to wear).

  4. Thank you for this thread. We have our first cruise later in the year and I was concerned about appropriate clothing needs for my two boys (13 & 10). I was going to miss the formal nights due to not wanting to buy formal suits and having to drag them around for 5 weeks after the cruise. This type of wardrobe will be perfect for them :)

  5. Thank you everyone, that does ease my mind a lot. I didn't tick the charging box for everyone in the room and I'll have the discussion with the kids about what amount in cash would be reasonable. They have pocket money saved up but the cruise is at the beginning of a 6 week trip so I would hazard a guess they wouldn't want to spend the lot on arcade games and sodas :D

Next non-issue question. I've prepaid gratuities but have since read a thread re: extra tipping in the room. Usually on land I tip $1 pp, plus up to an additional $5 p/day dependent on how messy we leave the room (try to keep it tidy but sometimes we are out the door at a very early hour). I'm unsure if the prepaid tips include housekeeping - so would the tipping I use on land be acceptable for on sea as well?

Last non-issue question. Kids wear - mainly the boys in the MDR. Would cargo pants/tees/trainers be acceptable. I'm trying to limit the amount we will pack due to having to pack for NYC/Niagara etc as well. Any tips hugely appreciated :)

    thank you!

  6. Hi everyone, first post and first cruise later in the year.

I'm having a bit of a panic as I had to give my credit card details on my 3 children's accounts as part of their personal information. I don't want them to be able to charge the card at all. The threads that come up are all pretty old when I search (must need better search terms) so just wondering if there is any new information and any options I may have. Kids are 13, 10, 10. I'm assuming there isn't cash onboard?

Sailing on Ruby Princess in November. Very excited to do something new but have 9 months to worry about stuff that is most likely a non issue for regulars.

    Thank you!
