  1. It's the Voyager that was in dry dock in Singapore last week and which has a capacity of around 540 passengers. Minerva is the smaller of the two at around 350 passengers but, according to reports, is not actually owned by Swan Hellenic.

We were booked on Voyager for a cruise at the end of March from Cape Town to the Canaries via Namibia, St Helena, Ascension Island, and Cape Verde Islands. Sadly not any more. :(

My wife and I were booked on the same cruise as berkshireboy and we are really down at the moment,as this was certainly a one off itinerary which we will find hard to replicate.

But hey ho life goes on,so we managed to book yesterday on the Quest "West Indian Hideaways" voyage in March which should help to take away a bit of the pain.

  2. I have just been on the phone to VOD and was told that no other voyages were being cancelled at present, how true this is I've no idea.I certainly hope that this is sorted out pretty soon one way or another for the people with future booking and the staff effected.

This will still hopefully be our first time on VOD and we booked our April cruise for the great itinerary which other companies do not do.So all we can do is keep our fingers crossed and hope for the best.

Well I was going to launch into TK and dining and general next but I will happily take another detour to answer your questions.

Entertainment -- For us our number primary entertainment on Seabourn is eating and drinking and conversing with our fellow passengers and the crew. So the formal entertainment programs are usually of little interest. We want to maybe three shows in the lounge -- one with the crew doing an Irish Pub theme and another with a magician. Both were okay. There was also a comedian and we almost skipped the show -- glad we didn't as we laughed so hard tears were rolling down our faces. But then the best of all we went to two performances (sorry, won't demean them by calling them shows) where Heather sang a number of arias. As I have stated before she has an amazing voice (she is classically trained) but for those not "into " opera she tried to make it very accessible. I was upset to hear one person when asked if he was going to hear her sing said he did not want to listen to some woman screeching. The downside to these performances is that they were predinner so you had to get dressed early and his cut into the afternoon

There was a rock the boat -- usually I enjoy this -- not so much this time. There of course was trivia -- even without sea days we managed five games. For those keeping score (Stamfordian) we finished last, second to last and then won three times in a row (thank you Keith and Anne for joining the team and providing some Brit knowledge to our US/Aussie team). We never went to the Club in the evening as I don't like the layout. Instead after dinner we usually went to the Observation Bar and listened to the terrific Pierre sing and twinkle the ivories while we sipped a Sauternes.

And as a preamble to the next topic, the MDR was never open for breakfast or lunch. This was two seven day Med cruises without a single planned sea day so many folks were on shore all day. We had breakfast in the Colonnade every morning -- I never noticed it being crazy busy. We always managed to find a table outside. On the days when we did not have lunch on shore we had lunch in the Colonnade once and all other times sat on deck one in the shade by the Sky Bar with lunch from the Patio Grill. The advantage was it is open until 4. This was especially convenient on tendering days as you could stay ashore until the early afternoon and then have a simple late lunch on the ship.

    Hello Sharon,

We are enjoying your review and seeing what you both got up to,it seems an awfully long time since we were on board but it's only been 11 days now since we all disembarked.

We appreciated the invite to join the TEAM and were glad to be of a little help in the victories.Speaking of that I had to get one of the prizes out today as it has been pouring down here today and the umbrella did me proud.

    Regards

  4. Thanks. Have a great trip. Just saw this and I realize that there are cruise critic articles as well:

Hope Seabourn makes up for the inconvenience in some way.

    Hello again jozi,

We are not expecting much from Seabourn,we rang them this morning and they were saying that they will look after anyone on Seabourn packages (which is fair enough) and did not seem over bothered about anyone who had booked their own flights/hotels.

But hopefully it will all work in the end and will be safely aboard ship around lunchtime.

    Regards

    Keith

  5. Thanks. Please post more about port change in Athens when you have more information. I think we'll do a Seabourn tour (vs private) on the 25th so it's on them to address the change. How are things going? Hope you are all having fun!

    Jozi,

we were sailing this saturday from piraeus on the Odyssey and last night recieved an email from Seabourn telling us due to strike action we will now departing from Lavrion ,which is approx 80/90 kms south of piraeus. We have a hotel booked in piraeus friday night so it will a bit of a pain, but it could have been further and fortunately will only be about an hour by taxi.

    regards

    Keith

  6. We've just booked our first Seabourn cruise for August 16.

We got $200 OBC as part of the deal - trust this means we would not also be eligible for the referral OBC?

You certainly are eligible Chewbacca as your $200 is totally separate.

If you are looking for a $400 referral coupon I have one available if you require it.

If you are interested please contact me on keefatniffy(@)msn.com replacing the (@) with an @ thus getting rid of the brackets.

    Regards

  7. Leffe is quite an obscure beer to expect the ship to carry. Obviously when racing a Spa or Zolder it is widely available on tap but outside Belgium less so. I have always assumed the preferences were based around what was available on-board. I didn't think they shipped stuff in specifically for you.

    Henry :)

    Hello Henry,

It may seem pretty obscure to some, but on Silversea where I first tried it and Azamara where it is available on the "premium beer upgrade" list it was readily available.I would have thought Seabourn being more "upmarket" would have it readily available. They did manage to find some Duvel in stock for me but at 8.5% it was far to heavy for me.I had the impression that they did make an effort to get things in when people had requested them but it appears I may be wrong. But never mind in all other respects Seabourn always go the extra mile to please their guests and to the wife and I they are simple wonderful.

    Regards

    Keith

  8. I have tried twice now on my onboard preferences to get some Leffe for our room fridge along with Myers rum and on neither occasion have I received the Leffe, but both times the Myers arrived. We had booked well in advance so it should not have been a big problem I would have thought. There were certainly plenty of other brands, just not my beer of choice.

  9. Hello Bajan Keith,

My wife and I are arriving this Saturday for 1 week in Barbados before going on a cruise for a week so please could you help with the following questions.

We'd like to purchase a Sim only card (we have unlocked phones) for the 2 weeks for calling back home to the U.K and would like to know if it can (1) be used on other Caribbean islands? (2) What is the approximate cost?.

    Thank you.

    Keith

    ps Not bothered about Data

  10. By far the best beach on the island is Chaweng which is also the busiest,it's situated on the other end of the island from Nathon Port though. There should be no problems getting a taxi from the port but as at most places make sure you get a price first. It's a reasonably small island so everything is quite compact for touring.

I have a feeling we may be on the same Quest sailing on the 3rd February.

  11. The wife and I were on the Whisper last November in the Caribbean and had Stella in our suite, but I was lucky as at the pool bar they managed to find me some Leffe and beautiful it was too.I was politely asked to not spread to word as there was only limited stock. So i'm pretty sure Silversea would make a real effort if you contacted Guest Services before you cruise.

  12. I still have 1 referral coupon available for anyone lucky enough to be cruising Seabourn in the near future and would be delighted to pass it on to anyone looking for a nice $400 shipboard credit.

I would prefer U.K respondents if possible, for easier logistics.

You can contact me at keefatniffy(at)msn.com replacing the (at) with the @.

I will post on this thread when it is taken.

    Thank you.
