  1. For anyone who is interested, I finally got a reply from Princess Cruises regarding the height of bunks...

The clearance between the top of a lower bed mattress and the underside of the upper bunk is different on the inside to outside cabin.

Outside cabin (porthole) is 34" or 87 cm (attachment 4)

Inside cabins the clearance is 30" or 76 cm - not too much room to keep the back straight (attachment 5)

  3. Reposting this from the Princess Lines thread...

    hi

Just wondering if anyone has travelled in a triple or quad on the Dawn Princess? I'm hoping to join a few friends on a trip to NZ in March 2015 and am wondering if anyone has photos of what the bunks are like? I believe the cabin we have is on Emerald deck and the beds come down from the roof. I'm interested to know what the head height is like for the bottom bunk and also the top one... if the bottom person is compromised too much I won't go as it's not fair...

    thanks

  5. I returned last Friday (11/04/104) on the Dawn Princess - Melb to Melb via New Zealand. I will say from the outset that I did have a really good cruise, met some lovely people and saw some amazing places.

Having said all that though, I was "struck down" with the noro virus and ended up stuck in my cabin for three whole days!! No wonder this virus is so rampant on cruise ships... I was never seen by a medical person during my time that I was laid up and only spoke to someone four times a day when they rang to see how I was... that's fine, BUT everyone onboard was left up their own discretion as to whether they were ill or not... I had a few tell me they were seasick for a few days, REALLY?? We had the most benign seas I have ever been on, no way was anyone really inconvenienced by the 3m waves (max) that we had... you had gastro and you continued to walk about the ship!

I had the "dirty" and the "clean" guys come to my room twice a day to disinfect etc so I did get to talk to other people LOL, thank goodness I had an ocean view room though or I would have gone insane, shame the window wasn't really clean!! Unlucky for me I missed three ports of call which I had pre booked outings on, so the only time I saw the medical personnel was when I had my shore excursion tickets stamped for reimbursement once I was well again.

What really ticks me off about the whole experience is my fellow passengers and their attitude to the "Code Red" strategies that were put in place. So many people gave the waiters in the Horizon Court a hard time about not being able to serve themselves, so many people were seen not washing their hands at meal times or when exiting the loos... REALLY people, as someone who was robbed of part of my first big cruise ship experience I thank you (NOT) for your concern for your fellow man!!

My bad experience aside, the cruise was fantastic! All the entertainment was top notch. As for the food, we ate to our hearts content in the Venetian Dining Room for dinner each night (except for my sick days) and breakfasted and lunched in the Horizon Court. Didn't get around to the pizza but as my friend and I are both gluten intolerant we couldn't have been happier even feasting on specially made soufflés and a GF Bombe Alaska on the last night. Ferenc and the boys (Ongart & Alvin) who served table 170 were the best!! James in the Wheelhouse Bar was the most attentive drinks waiter I have ever had and Phil and the boys in Mosaic were great to listen and dance to!

I will cruise with Princess again... just not sure where to...

  6. My first cruise (and first trip o/s) was onboard Orient Lines Marco Polo to the Antarctic Peninsula in Jan 2005. What an adventure!! On our way back across Drake Passage we blew windows in in one of the dining rooms!! Will never forget that trip but not sure I was hooked straight away as it was another five years before I cruised again... Love the atmosphere on a ship, somewhere new every day but you don't have to keep packing and unpacking your bags!!

  7. I have cruised with Aurora Expeditions twice, once on the Polar Pioneer in Antarctica and then on her sister ship in the Russian Arctic. I honestly don't know what your problem is, most of the cost of a cruise like this is in fuel... The more days at sea, the more the cost BUT at all times I only saw professionalism from the Expedition staff who went out of their way to make sure everyone was included as much as they could. Ok, I'll give you the one about the food, it was a little ordinary but hey, this is a budget cruise, you should not expect cordon bleu chefs!! As for toiletries, surely you travel with your own? Wow, have only ever used the ones supplied out of desperation if I run out... As for the Russian crew, they were amazing and incredibly knowledgable...
