  1. We just finished a short 5 day Western Caribbean on the Crown in Club Class. I did not think I would like it all that much but I was really impressed. The staff was above even Princess' normal high standards and I would recommend it to anyone in the mini-suite category. If you are lucky enough to get Derik as your waiter, tell him Hi.

  2. When we were there this summer, they had tour buses right at the ship's dock that offered R/T transport. It was like 20 Euros/person I think, definitely cheaper than any excursion price. The bus dropped us off at the edge of town, by the train station parking lot and we just walked right into town. I actually bought one of those pocket size tour books from our local half-price bookstore and it was perfect. It gave us many things and ideas to see, plus I looked before we went. We saw a ton of things. Then when we were done, we walked back to the station where they had buses waiting, I think they left like every 30 minutes. We spent probably 8-10 hours there. And we got there pretty much when the city was just walking up, so it was still pretty quiet, it was one of my favorite stops!

When you say ship's dock, are you talking about actually next to the docked ship or outside the port entrance?

thanks for the info as I am looking at the best way to get to Bruges without paying a fortune. <grin >

  3. My experience has been very positive with EZAir. In fact, my one complete catastrophe was when I booked my own flights to Fairbanks, AK for a Princess CruiseTour. Totally messed up (most of it my fault but still a pain).

My wife and I are booked for a TA in April out of Ft Lauderdale returning from Copenhagen 25 days later and the price for both of us was one fourth of the cost if I booked directly with the same airline that I will be on (Delta/Air France).

  4. My wife and I are interested in taking the Blaue Flotte trip from Rostock to Warnemaunde. I have all sorts of information but cannot seem to find where in Rostock specifically to buy tickets or get on the boat.

If anyone has taken this route ( I know they also go from Warnemaunde to Rostock but I think we will take the train that way).

thanks in advance for any information that can be shared.

  6. My wife and I have never sailed Oceania (Platinum with Princess) but we are considering a cruise in 2018 using the OLife option.

I am interested on how the air option works. When do you know which airline is the carrier? Is there the ability to upgrade to premium economy directly with the airlines?

    thanks in advance

  7. Thanks for the reply. It is eerie to hear how you do the Google maps thing because I do exactly the same thing. It is so neat that in most cases you can actually "drive or walk" your entire route so it almost seems when you get there you've been there before.

Anyway, have a great cruise with your family.

    thanks again

  8. As everyone else has said "Great Review". My wife and I are going on the same cruise in May (this year) sans Liverpool but with two days in Dublin. I would love to take the same Loch Ness tour you did with the Jacobite tours but am a little about getting to the bus station for "city center" (as the description of the Princess bus drop off place is listed).

I know you said it was tight but did you have any help in locating the bus station. I have my iPhone and may be able to get a cheap sim card locally for gps but not sure if that is needed.

thanks again for the lovely review.

  9. My wife and I are currently booked for the May 14th Rome departure for the Greece and Turkey cruise with a scheduled stop in Istanbul on the 19th.

I have noticed that the excursions have not opened yet and with all the turmoil in the region sort of expect to be rerouted to another port, especially with the tourists killed today in a tourist area of the city.

Even before the bombing today, my wife and I were debating about just staying on board for the day. We would have probably not done that as it seems drastic but now we are waiting on information from Princess.

Any ideas on how long Princess will take to say something?

  10. We were also on the Grand Princess and everyone was great. Too bad you had problems but it sounds more like inexperience with cruising than Princess issues. Of course one can have a one off with rude staff but a complaint on the ship will normally solve that in a heartbeat.

  11. Well, I finally called Princess and found out that everyone above was right but let me give you the final answer. Yes, the Luggage Valet is basically for Home to ship use (but can go the other way) but is very expensive. The EZ-Check system used aboard ship (and can only be scheduled on board) is not available outside the US due to all the customs requirements.

Anyway thanks for the advice and information.

I think I will probably use the luggage storage facility at Canada Place OR I may check with the doorman as suggested above.

    Once again

    thanks

  12. My wife and I will be on the Grand Princess for the southern Alaska trip beginning on May 16, 2015. We will be arriving in Vancouver early and our flight is late in the evening. We would like to tour Vancouver without lugging four bags around with us:)

I know that Princess has a service to take bags directly to the airlines but cannot confirm if they do this on the Alaska ships.

Most of the posts on the subject are several years old and would appreciate some current information.

    thanks

  13. Many thanks to all for the information and I should probably let everyone know that I am in fact going to book the 2016 Cruise while I am on a 2015 Alaska Cruise to get the early booking as well as the OBC offered there also.

My real aim I guess was to get some sort of assurance from the "pros" that the price will probably come down. I will in all likelihood go regardless of price reduction but obviously would like to pay as little as possible for the trip, especially given the number of ports visited and the price of the excursions.

    Anyway, thanks to all.

  14. Any ideas why the April 25, 2015 26 day British Isles Grand Adventure is $2550 more per person than the April 20, 2016 30 day British Isles Grand Adventure (Balcony).

I can understand the additional 4 days being a little more expensive but a $72 per day increase seems odd and excessive.

As a relatively new cruiser, (two so far with 2 more booked) I am trying to determine the best time to book. I already have the 400 shares of CCL stock and do my bookings on cruises, but want to maximize my dollar outlay at the best time.

thanks in advance for the advice from the pros.
