  1. I guess our question would be...can someone please tell us the major differences between the train options offered. We are on the NCL Jewel out of Seattle on the 7th of June. We are docked in Skagway for 10 1/2 hours.

We have read all options, but it really doesn't help us because none of us have been on an Alaskan Cruise before. Is there a big difference between these excursions? Does anyone have any experiences to share? We are traveling with a group of 12 and I'm sure there is a LOT to see in Skagway. We do have some people with limited mobility too, which is why we eliminated the 4th option right away.

We were leading towards the 3 1/2 hr train ride, but we are worried that we might be cutting ourself short then.

White Pass Railway, Klondike Gold Fields & Panning (5 3/4 hrs)

Best Of Skagway & White Pass Railway (6 1/2 hrs)

White Pass Scenic Railway (3 1/2 hrs)

White Pass Railway & Suspension Bridge (4 1/2 hrs) --- this ones out due to the suspension bridge.

White Pass Railway & Yukon Expedition (8 hrs)

White Pass Rail & Gold Fever Adventure (5 1/4 hrs)

Thank-you for any and all comments!!!

  2. I don't know if I could ever go parasailing!!! Ziplining is such a cool way to see things that a car or walking won't allow. I now need to figure out the age and weight requirements. On our last cruise, my daughter didn't weigh enough to do the zipline on the Allure. She's almost at 75 pounds so she's close to a lot of the weight restrictions.

if you can zipline, you could go parasailing!!! Once your up, you don't want to come down!

  3. I know once you conquer those fears, you have a fantastic time! I don't know anyone who went forward to face their fears head on and regretted it. :)

We are on the Jewel out of Seattle on June 7th. We are also zip-lining in Ketchikan. I'm trying to convince my wife and daughter to go with us.

Got my wife, who is scared of heights, to go parasailing in the Bahamas on last cruise. She absolutely loved it, after the initial fears that is. Once we were up, she started talking about wanting to parasail in every port.

If you are scared of heights, give it a chance. You will not regret it!!!

Only question we have is can we take cameras with us when zip-lining? I will be disappointed if we can't snap some pictures while we are enjoying the scenery!

  4. Thank-you everyone for all the pictures and updates. We set sail for our 1st cruise on the Jewel on June 7th. Already planning our next cruise in February. Guess we'll see how much we like the Jewel.

Looking forward to a much needed vacation, so I'm hoping we enjoy the Jewel as much as the rest of you have!!

  5. Twiz: Glad to know someone else also suffers from pre-cruise OCD! :) Seriously, my list sure helps cut down on my packing stress for sure. I love this thread! Thanks to the OP for starting it!

Yes, there apparently is more than a few of us. My wife laughed when I made our up before our first cruise. Now she also has a list for herself for our second cruise.

List made it easy to make sure we didn't forget anything. And of course my anal self triple checking everything the night before our flight.
