  2. If you are sailing from a port close to home and/or you are fussy about your wine - bringing your wine COULD make sense. But if you have to fly or aren't fussy - go for the wine package. It gives you an opportunity to try new wines, maybe find some new favorites (Wild Horse Pinot Noir - is now a favorite of mine) And yes you can bring home the extras :) I was quite pleased with the process on my last cruise.

  3. At 300 lbs I find the Princess Theatre seats uncomfortable and small (Smaller than an airline seat). But Vista has comfortable seating; Explorers does too but the couches can be difficult to get up from. The Princess staff is the friendliest I've come across - remember they are there to help you have a great vacation.

    Have a great time

  4. Check the personalizer on the website to see the earliest boarding times.

Disembarkation - time you leave the ship depends on when you get in port BUT you do need to be out of your room by 8AM (generally) then you wait in an assigned area to disembark. It's actually a smooth system and if you want a later (or earlier) time than assigned to you, you can request it at the Passenger Services desk

  5. While we are not yet elite I can't see anything in the picture of any value to us. I'm sure the conditioner (or hand lotion) is highly scented (I am allergic to pretty much all scent - it stinks to me and makes me ill). It looks to me like a collection of useless jive. Do people really covet this stuff?

The eye mask is nice when I have a bad day with allergies or the wine flu;) and the lip balm is always nice to have. Everything else is just tchotchkes, but I earned those Tchotchkes and I want them

  6. I'll be on my 4th cruise as elite in 10days and I have a weird question regarding the upgraded bathroom products.

When I was on the Royal I got this cute little bag of niceties however I was on the Grand in October and didn't get one. Is this something that differs ship to ship or should I talk to my Cabin steward if I don't get one in....as I said...in 10 days...

    Thanks

  7. Anyone have any reviews on the ships that go to Hawaii. We're looking & I want to make sure these are good ships. We've done a 14 day B2B on the Regal. We liked the ship overall.

I've only been on the Royal (sister to the Regal) but this is my 4th or 5th cruise on the Grand. The Grand is smaller, older and not as regal (pardon the pun) as the Regal but I personally find it nicer. I like homey :) Grand, to me has the feel of a small ship and Royal/Regal are definitely big ships. Service is comparable and both styles are nice.

One HUGE difference between the two is that the grand has a promenade on Deck 7 (ok, part of it is on deck 8 - but gets the old heart rate up to do stairs!), Royal/Regal do not have this and it's quite a lovely experience to walk so close to the water. The other major difference is the buffet, Royal/Regal has the better buffet setup.

    Them's my 2 cents

  8. It generally is. Don't ask the room steward (they always head you to the buffet)- take a look at the patter in your room. It will tell you what Dining room is open that day. Generally they close around 1:30.

Other alternatives on the island could be La Patisserie on Deck 5, and the Princess Pizzaria on Deck 14.

    Check your deck plans

  9. Sure they do. We always leave the ship whenever we choose. No problem.

Just select the time of departure & they give it to you or wait in the lounge & leave when you like.

I don't think that has anything to do with Elite or Suite status. Anyone can choose early walk off and/or pick a different time for disembarkation than they have been given - you just have to trade in your tags.

  10. I was on the Royal last summer and really the only thing I really missed was the promenade on deck 7. there is a walk/run track on deck 17 but it's just not the same for me. Also no aft pool but the Horizon Terrace is a FABULOUS place to chill and watch the world. Royal does have an amazing buffet.

ALso if you get the All Inclusive Beverage package, Gelato's and the Ocean Terrace are included

I will also second the comment about the staff. They are the primary reason that I keep coming back - friendly and warm like most of the passengers.

  11. I have found my PEOPLE!!! I'll tell you planning the cruise is just as much fun as going on it :) I have never needed Duct tape but have started bringing it (Mine as Ducks on it :)) Sewing kit and wipes are a must, and this time I'm bringing Towel clips for the lounging. I also bring battery operated tea lights for the bathroom, so much gentler on the eyes at 2am.

I am down to 4 pairs of shoes...athletic, dressy, comfy and pool....I do however bring 8 pairs of sunglasses....'cause of the matching to the outfits :) and at least 4 real books for reading and 4 for trading - and we won't talk about how many are on my kindle.

No TRAVEL INSURANCE!!!! Yikes!!!! Always purchase it for the peace of mind.

    33 days...Time to start packing!!
