  1. Hi Alaina, wondering if you can help describe the trails at the Menendhall Glacier. My daughter just injured her ankle (bad sprain and small fracture) and we depart for our cruise in less than 2 weeks. She is in an air cast and walking very slowly with pain. Dr told us it is OK for her to travel, but she needs to minimize weight bearing activities. I have rented a scooter for the trip and now having to re-calibrate our shore excursion plans to be less physical. Are the pathways to the 2 glacier viewing sites navigable by a scooter or wheel chair? We will be in Juneau on Aug 23.

Thank you so much for reading!

I do not recall the 20 minute walk to Nugget Falls as a paved walk. It is mostly gravel which would be a safety concern for sure. I also think this could be a challenge for someone pushing a wheelchair.

Photo point (much shorter trail) I do recall being much more accessible (paved path). She could also go to the visitors center while the others do the nugget falls trail that way she has a full experience.

Photo point trail took a few minutes each way and offered beautiful views. I’m sure the park’s website has much more information. Here’s a link:

    Happy sailing to you,

  2. Thanks for your review. I was on the Norwegian Pearl for our babymoon. Must be a sister ship. Looks pretty much the same. The O’Sheehan’s experience must be fleet wide. Service was so-so the first time we went and absolutely horrible the second time. I don’t know if they just don’t staff it properly or put only their waiters in training. It holds so much promise. The mozeralla sticks were the same.

We did a Carnival cruise for our honeymoon and we had a naturalist so seems very odd/cheap that Norwegian doesn’t. The park ranger joined us for the day we were in Glacier Bay National Park.

I couldn’t agree with you more - on several accounts. I SO looked forward to O’Sheehans because it was just outside our cabin. We tried several different things and it was all “ok”... the service is what made us groan. But we were the fools who kept trying it! My friend (Shadowmeboy) said the service was great & food was good on his cruise just after mine.

We had an amazing naturalist on Celebrity - he was top notch! His presentations were amazing and educational. So if this were my first sailing to Alaska, I would be disappointed for sure.

    Thanks so much for reading!

  5. Where did you find your magnetic clips? I ordered some from Amazon but they are pretty big and heavy.

I also got mine from Amazon. Be sure to order the weight that works for you, mine are not big at all. I would be happy to find a link if you’d like.

  7. This Glacier Express bus, it just takes you directly to the Visitor's Center at Mendenhall Glacier and you can spend however much time you want there? Is there an extra fee to enter the Glacier park area?

How long did it take to get there? And how much time did you spend? If you had to choose only 1 of the trails which would you choose? The website says it take an hour RT to visit the Nugget Falls.

Where NCL was docked was pretty far so transportation was available to take you to the main area. The Glacier Express picked you up from the main area and takes you to Mendenhall. It was around a 20 minute ride each way.

We spent around 1.5 hours, we did the photo point and the nugget falls walk... took us around an hour or so to do both because we took our time taking photos. You could do the walk each way in about 20 minutes. Nugget falls trail would be my choice, but you could easily do both.

The bus back to town ran every 30 minutes - that was on the way to and from Mendenhall. We were given an option to be dropped off at the ship or downtown. We chose downtown so we could eat at Tracy’s.

    Hope this helps!!

    - Alaina

  8. Note, I am so glad I packed casual for most nights, and just 2 dresses for formal night. On RCI, most people are casual on regular nights :)

I’ve noticed that dinner is very casual on cruises to Alaska. I chose to bring dresses because I like to dress up a bit for dinner... we also did specialty dining for 6 nights. Thankfully dresses roll up quite easily! [emoji846]

  9. I brought a small diffuser when I cruised this past January due to so much flu and colds going around. Did not get sick on the cruise.

Same here! I know it seems silly to include this, but I used it every day and my husband would actually request it. I especially loved the lemon. No sickness for us!

  10. I was looking at The Container Store's website at the travel section and noticed your checklist for sale, in case anyone would like to get it too!

Awesome! I was gifted a couple of these lists, so it’s great to know you can find one online! Thanks for sharing!!

  11. Ugh, we did too! We were able to use lens wipes to get it off without scratching or damaging the lens. Currently checking out your Celebrity reviews - we've only sailed NCL but are looking at some other options for a Southern Caribbean cruise.

I protected my lens, it’s the zoom I’m concerned about. When you twist it to zoom, you can hear the grit in there. We tried canned air, but I think we need to take it in to the camera store. :(

I LOVE Celebrity. My experience with NCL was not great - our cruise had a lot of service and food complaints. Needless to say, not a good way to get your feet wet. Celebrity is my favorite line thus far and I hope you love it as well! Check out the 12/13/14 review to the Caribbean for my 30th birthday. It wasn’t the best intro to celebrity, but my experiences got much better (as I’m sure they will with NCL).

Let me know if you have any questions!

  12. Oh, good! Some pictures might help. How did you find the cabin and obstruction? To much???

These are the 3 images I took a month ago while on the Jewel. We had ample light coming in and could see the water. We chose this cabin because of its location just outside of O’Sheehans - perfectly midship.

Here’s a photo of the interior, this picture was taken by the door. Again, cabin 8592 on Jewel.
