  1. We will be going on the Grand Princess to Hawaii.  This will be our first time in a mini suite and wondered whether the balcony sizes increase because of the slightly upgraded room from our usual  Balcony room? This is certainly not a deal breaker but was just wondering.  Thanks

  2. Ahoy Gang,

If anybody’s been on an Alaskan cruise in the summer would love your input on what clothes you made sure to pack that was suitable for the varying temperatures. In checking the weather it seems that for the most part Alaska can range from the 50s to low 70s. However I also heard from someone that when we cruise through the college fjords and glacier national Park it go as low as 20??? True? How cold can it get?

    Thoughts and suggestions appreciated.

I just got back a week ago. Weather was awesome. Some Light rain occasionally moderate temperatures. Only time I wore the heavy jacket I brought was when we left San Francisco going under the Golden Gate Bridge. I never wore my rain jacket at all. I wore Levi's and a t shirt most of the time and at night had our sliding door open at least partially. When we were in glacier bay I wore a t-shirt and a ski vest. The weather is very changeable and can be sunny one minute and cold the next. It was perfect for our group.

  3. Just a couple of things I haven't seen mentioned yet ...

-Sunscreen (I once used an entire tube of sunblock, didn't need my jacket on once)

-some small size plastic bags (wear over your socks / inside your shoes in case it is really raining .. will keep your feet dry)

The plastic bag over your socks was the most valuable suggestion I have seen so far. We are leaving on the Grand June 25th to Alaska and you can bet those will be in my suitcase. Thanks

  4. I just read that Carnival Corp through its subsidiary Holland America Princess Alaska tours has entered into a purchase agreement to acquire White Pass & Yukon Route.

I am glad we will be going on it in 3 weeks. Look for the excursion price to take a big jump.

  5. Hmmm! Coffee packages are only valid for use by the purchaser

Does that mean you can only purchase for yourself or that you can purchase for others as well. DH and I usually share a card for a cruise.

I had ordered 2 cards. I called princess and put one of the cards in someone else name. The way I did it was a separate transaction for each coffee card. It made it easy to transfer one. I was told that it might be a little more difficult (but not impossible) if more then one card was purchased in one transaction.

  6. Not sure if this means it's not available for purchase onboard, or if presale just ends 4 days before the cruise. For instance, the bottled water package specifically states: "For pre-purchase ONLY through Gift Guide or Cruise Personalizer." Also the coffee program T&C's state in part "packages purchased in advance may vary from onboard pricing due to timing and currency fluctuations."

Not quite sure if this is true either as the new rules specifically state "If the maximum number of coffees pre-purchased are not used during the voyage, the remaining value will NOT be credited or refunded and is NOT transferable for any purpose" where before you could use punches on future cruises. It also states "Coffee packages cannot be sold or otherwise transferred to any individual. Coffee packages are only valid for use by the purchaser" where previously there was no restriction on sharing a coffee card between people. Although I suspect the part of selling or otherwise transferring cards is part of the reason for the change, effectively killing of the trading in minibars for coffee cards and then selling them on eBay.

Why question what everyone else is saying. Get off your duff and call Princess. I did.

  7. Hello i am going on the Regal Princess November 1, 2018 and i pre purchased a coffee card from Princess.. Reading now that they are going to elimate all coffee cards....should i call Princess and see if i can change then to the Coffee Package...as this was already charged to my credit card... Would appreciate it if someone could give me some advice to this...can be reached at catfinsevenatgmaildotcom...

I called Princess they are not cancelling the coffee cards. Just some minute changes in the terms and conditions that amount to nothing. Keep your cards.

  8. NOTHING has changed except for the use of previously purchased coffee cards from previous cruises. Cards purchased for use on a future cruise now have an expiration date of August 2019. Just got this from Princess Cruise directly (6/6/18)

Check with princess regarding Australian cruises.

  9. currently on the Grand. Starting with this cruise coffee cards will be no more. They will swipe your cruise card each time you get coffee. All older cards will not be allowed after this cruise. Also if in a suite and you swap out for coffee cards you only get one not two.. so far I have given away 5 cards 😁😁

LARGIN you have another post from a from June 1st saying there are new style coffee cards. Maybe you should make up your mind. New? None?

If this is the case how are they accommodating pre-purchased coffee cards? We are going on the June 25th sailing of the Grand to Alaska and I have pre-purchased 2 cards.

  11. For those who have recently been on the Grand Princess. We are going to be on the June 25th sailing of the Grand out of San Francisco to Alaska. Can anyone tell me what night the Crab Shack is served? We want to make reservations ASAP so this would be really helpful information. Thanks for your help.

  12. There seemed to be a lot of Hysteria on this post. I got caught up in it to the extent that my group picked a back up excursion "Just in case". For those of you who frequently go to Alaska is this a common occurrence on the White Pass and Yukon Railroad?

  13. We are scheduled to take the train June 29th. I am fully confident that it will happen our group decided to pick a plan B excursion now rather then try looking for one at the last second at the excursion desk. I would be disappointed if we could not go on the train but there is another choice just in case.

  14. I've never used a travel agent. How do you know if they discount and what is the best way to find a reliable one.

You have to keep track of current fares and promotions. I love the game of booking then seeing how much I can get the price reduced or the perks increased. When we book Alaska for next month we got the sip and sail promo. Ok but not great if you drink but not a lot. By switching to the 3 for free we lost the sip and sail but got OBC, Free gratuities, and standard fare on a premium room. All immediate savings and not based on how much you may or may not drink. a perfect deal for my crew.

  15. 3 words. Lame Lame Lame.

I totally concur. We change from sip n sail to 3 for Free last September for our cruise to Alaska on the Grand in 30 days. But we got $100 OBC, Free gratuities, and the price of our already chosen premium balcony stateroom was reduced to a standard stateroom.

Free wine? excursion? dinner? Yes, very Lame.

  16. We enjoy eating early 5 pm-6pm so anytime dinting is perfect for us. just walk in at best or a short 5 minute wait at worst If we want we can get a snack later at one of the 10,000 eateries on board. We are on the Grand in June. Have a great cruise.

  17. Where can I find a list of spa treatments that the ships offer? I looked on Princess' website, but the treatments are not listed.

Check again under the Spa section of your Personalizer. I have reserved a massage on line. I did that 3 months ago and the available times were very limited. Going to check with them on embarkation day to see if I can change. I think they control the reservations on line and only release a limited amount of available times at any given point.times a little at
