  1. It's funny to see so many people bothered by others wearing lanyards. I think it's great. Maybe next time I'll wear two, just to ruin someone's cruse.:')

I have several different ones that I have beaded. Since I'll be coming off a trip to WDW on my next cruise, I'll likely be wearing my black, red and white one that I made for my Disney Annual Pass :-) Hope the fashion police like it. :'):'):')

  2. Just out of curiosity, has anyone ever sat with strangers and had a good experience and would recommend it? My husband is the extrovert and I'm sure would love it. I on the other hand don't know how I feel about it...

I'm a major introvert and I've always been at a community table. My husband was a big extrovert as is my friend who I travel with now. I kinda just go with it. It's never been a bad experience.

  3.

I am glad to report that my personal favorite breakfast item is available everywhere- Smoked Salmon :)

You have no idea how happy you just made me. I was looking at having breakfast separate from my friend that I'm traveling with because I *must* have my smoked salmon at breakfast but she wants her omelette, so we were figuring I'd be limited to the Windjammer. YAY!:D

  4. Incorrect, an exception to this is Starbucks locations onboard (not Cafe Promenade etc that serve Starbucks, it must be the Starbucks locations on Oasis, Allure, and Harmony), where you are able to use gift cards and earn Starbucks rewards points (but not spend the latter)

This makes me very, VERY happy! :D:hot-beverage:

  5. I keep seeing that no food is to leave the ship or be brought back on from ports. I'm assuming that means "fresh" food, and not pre packaged items? I normally have cliff bars or lunchbox size packages of snacks/cookies (think those 100 calorie packages) and I was never stopped on my last cruise and I was hoping the rules haven't changed. This would be the East coast itinerary, all USA and Canada. And buying packaged food, like they sell in souvenir shops, I assume is still ok? Candy and the like?

  6. Now, people late getting back on the bus during a stop on an excursion, that definitely annoys me. Because it just means less time at the next stop during the excursion.

This one chaps my hide. On one of my Alaska excursions we had to skip over a stop (of course the one I was most looking forward to!) because one family decided that they would do what they wanted and return to the bus when they felt like it. And then when they would finally show up, they would refuse to sit down until the front seats were vacated for them. I wish the driver had left their sorry butts behind somewhere.....

  7. This doesn't mean that you'll be unable to put your luggage under your bed. I've heard this in the past and was worried only to get to my cabin and find out that it did fit. You won't really know until then.

I was in a balcony room on the same class ship and was able to get my bag under the bed. I'm wondering if the OP was trying to put it under unopened? I know, opened up, mine fit with plenty of room to slide it out like a drawer in the balcony room.

  8. My next tip is cheap, I know, but again, I don't care. I take my GF's digital camera when I look at the Ship Photos and take a picture of the picture. Same great quality and easier to send to family and friends since already digitized. If I do want a hard copy, I take the camera to our office supply store or drug store and they print it out for me.

We were not allowed to do this, and, until I showed them that I had pre-purchased the all inclusive photo package, they demanded to watch me delete the photo from my phone. This was on Royal last summer.

  9. One of my favourite was the one about the window clings to use on doors.

On one of our last cruises, I was forever trying to put my card into the card-slot of the cabin next door.

One morning I stood outside the door and asked if "the sexy man inside was ready". (Had left my cruise card in the cabin) Imagine my surprise when another gentleman answered the door and said that he could be ready in a minute or so.

It was a great way to meet the next door neighbour, perhaps not the way he had envisaged.

    :)

Truly awesome. And totally something that would happen to me. The other thing you can bring to "mark" your door is painters tape or (if you're crafty) washi tape. Washi tape is now available at Staples and Target in the scrapbooking area. It has a post-it like adhesive that removes cleanly, even from paper.

  10. I can't remember which cruise line it is, but one of them(maybe more)are starting to charge/fine people that have over the door hangers that cause damage to the doors/interiors. What I would suggest are the command strip hooks to hang this type of thing, and not going over the door to minimize possibility of damage. ;) Extra hooks my be useful to hang swimsuits, coverups, or hoodies for drying/easy access.

I use the "power hook" style of suction cup hooks. They are similar to what mounts my garmin to my windshield. (I got mine at the Big Blue Box retailer who starts with W - they are in the hardware aisle where the bathroom shelves/soap dishes are. They also have bathroom specific Command hooks there. I travel with 4 of the suction cups. I think they were about $5 for all 4.) The alternative is to find some alcohol wipes (if you know anyone in the medical field, these are often used before injections) which will clean up most adhesive residue. And for balcony curtains, if you are a lady with long hair, a banana clip can double as a curtain holder.

  11. Lots of great tips on here. Still pondering if I should take a Kindle on my trip, because, ya know, isn't there supposed to be "relaxing time" on a cruise? *eyeroll* I am thinking between the excursions, the on board entertainment, and whatnot, I'm never going to read! (Alaska, Celebrity Millennium, first time cruising)

Of course take the Kindle! There is nothing like sitting out on a beach chair, looking at the sea, drinking your fav tipple and reading!

I used to be a prolific reader. Now, I seem to jump on the computer in my spare time instead. Last year I joined Kindle Unlimited just before my first (in many, many years) cruise and I read SEVEN BOOKS. It was actually one of the things I enjoyed most about the cruise. I went every day and read in the solarium, spa or on our balcony (no balcony this time, will have to find more reading nooks!). SO relaxing! And with my drink package, it was also mimosa time! :D

  12. And no room under the bed for luggage. We put our luggage on top of the chair. Bathroom tiny as well and of course the lovely shower curtain.

This worries me as I had planned on having two suitcases since I plan on bringing home <ahem> several bottle of craft beer on my New England trip. Plus, 10 days in "jeans weather" with no access to laundry facilities means a larger suitcase for clothes just to start with. Getting nervous....

  13. :D It is a weakness of mine! I have a list of 6 breweries/brewpubs in the area (Gahan, Garrison, Good Robot, Rock Bottom, Propeller, and Alexander Keiths) and that doesn't even include regular bars and restaurants! I could make this the entire day's tour but not sure I could get back to the ship.

Thanks for the brewery list. Any suggestions for Portland, ME or St. John in this category?

  14. I was in the Champagne Bar after dinner sitting at the bar with my back to the window holding my drink with one hand and the metal pipe on the edge of the bar with the other. It was quite an adventure!

You are my hero. I loved the champagne bar on the Jewel. I am sad that there isn't one on the Grandeur for my upcoming cruise. My bartender in the Champagne bar got a nice envelope on the last day from me....
