  1. Hi Nacho,

I enjoyed a lovely stay at the Aspen Square Hotel a few years ago and was considering booking there again. I arrive from my cruise on Feb.9 and was hoping to do some city touring, and a day (or2?) trip to Iguaza Falls before flying home from EZE. Do you think that is a busy itinerary or can I accomplish that in a few days? I read what you suggested for hotels. Is the Aspen as well located?

    Hi Bavarder,

Lets see... your itinerary could be accomplished, but you would have to hurry a little. How many nights would you stay before coming back? You could spend 2 days at the Falls getting the most out of the experience in both sides (Argentina + Brasil)... or even one day could do it.

One thing you should be careful about is Aerolineas Argentinas's eventual delays. I strongly recommend you having at least half a day before your flight. You should estimate the time between arriving at "Aeroparque" and traveling to Ezeiza Airport with BA's traffic jams... and arriving a few hours before your flight. But having this things in mind, yes, you could do it.

As for the hotel, that is not the area I enjoy the most, but it is really near the subway and that is great! It depends as well on what are you planning to do.

I hope you have a great time in BA! Please ask me for more details or any further help!

  2. Hi,

I am in the same dilemma as to where to stay in BA. We would enjoy a local experience, don't need a first class hotel, but one with a local feel would be great. I want to visit the cemetery. We will be staying 2 nights before visiting the falls.

    Any help would be appreciated.

The recommendations made in this post are all great. It is really up to you which hotel to choose, but, for instance, neighborhoods like Palermo, Recoleta or San Telmo can give more of the local feel than Puerto Madero, which is newer and more luxurious.

For example, I work for some people from California, and when they come they stay in Madero Hotel in Puerto Madero because it is near the downtown and almost every touristic places of interest and it is in the best part of Buenos Aires, and has a wonderful buffet breakfast, but there is not much there related with tango or the "city feel".

If you want to, you could post some hotels you've been looking at and maybe I could tell you some pros and cons.

    Regards,

    Nacho

  3. Have you ever considered cruising from BsAs to Valparaiso and flying back from Santiago to BsAs or vice versa? To us, that was more exotic than Caribbean cruises. ;)

Thank you for your idea. We've been to the south, for us its a car trip away. It really is a place you can't miss (the glacier, the whales, the seven lake circuit, San Martín de los Andes, Bariloche, el Bolsón and more) but it is not what we enjoy the most. BA is pretty cold in winter, so we escape looking for warm beaches, sunbathing, snorkeling, that is why we are looking the Caribbean.

You should have been automatically enrolled after your first Celebrity cruise. When you make your reservation, be sure to tell them about your first cruise so they can look you up and give you the proper status.

Ok, I will. Thank you so much!

Don't expect much after just 1 cruise. I don't know all the perks at that level, but you can see them on the Celebrity website.

No, of course... But slowly, one trip at a time perhaps some day it could turn out in something interesting. Thanks again!

  4. We are taking a cruise from LA to Buenos Aires in December and will be arriving in Buenos Aires on 12/30 and plan on staying for 4 pr 5 more days. Initially we had planned on taking the ship on to Rio but didn't want to deal with the hassle of getting a Brazilian visa. At least what we have to do with Argentina can be done online.

Right now I know very little about Buenos Aires. Looking at guides, I think it would be nice to stay in Ricoleta, but then there don't seem to be many close subway stops. Any ideas of areas where we might stay, hotels we could use and things to do. Princess is having a sale on airfare now so I think I am going tp go ahead and book it before deciding on hotels but ant advice would be greatly appreciated.

It looks like hotel rates are at least comparatively inexpensive. I would like to have a convenient location, either within walking distance or within a few blocks of a subway stop. And does anyone know how expensive taxi fares are?

Pleased to meet you. I am from Buenos Aires so I will be happy to help you.

Many tourists stay in the Puerto Madero area, it is the most safe and perhaps the nicest neighborhood in BA. The other choices are Palermo, Recoleta or the downtown. What are you looking for? A local experience? First class hotels as if you were in the USA? Are you more into the city + tango experience, or the country + gaucho thing? You could do both.

With some of these things answered, perhaps I could help you more.

    Best regards!

  5. It will be hard not to compare ships. Go for the ports and do a lot of research to choose just what you want to see in each port.

Your English is very very good. Much better than my Spanish.

Thank you Dorisis. I am starting to believe this is what I should focus on, the ports. The ship may not be as great as the Eclipse... but anyway, it will be our greatest holiday for the past years and and a few of the upcoming as well  ha-ha!

    Welcome to Cruise Critic.

Have you checked to see which ships sail out of San Juan? That is closer to you than Ft Lauderdale and Miami.

Thank you for your advice. Sadly, flying to San Juan from Buenos Aires is up to 1/3 more expensive than going to Miami or New York. It would make me spend what I would be saving in the Class downgrading. In our first cruise, we spend a week in Miami prior our cruise. So this time, we are planing to know New York for a few days, then flying to MIA for the cruise.

Big Question: this would be my second cruise with Celebrity. Should I enroll in the Captain's Club? Would that give us any special treatment or something we shouldn't miss? I don't know how that works.

    Best regards!

  6. Having been on both classes of ship, I much prefer S Class. M Class is great, but I really think you'll find yourself comparing and wishing you were back on the bigger, better ship class.

But I can't ignore that the Constellation is 2 days longer. That makes it tough for me to give a confident recommendation. Better ship or longer cruise?

Hmmmm. I think I would opt for the Constellation, just for those extra 2 days.

Thank you for your opinion. It is tough, isn't it? I hope the difference between S and upgraded M won't be so remarkable. In our case, cruising every 3 years, 2 extra days mean a lot.

Welcome to Cruise Critic! I have not sailed on Celebrity, but in general, I would choose a longer cruise over a shorter one, unless there were ports on the shorter cruise that I really wanted to visit.

No, in fact, the 9-day has a port call on St Barts and we are really excited to be there. Perhaps I worry too much about the ship I should be more into the ports...

Also, please DON'T apologize for your English! It is excellent!

    Thank you :o

Are there ports on one cruise that you REALLY want to visit...that might make your decision easier. Otherwise, I think a longer cruise is nicer because you don't feel like the week is going to be over quickly.

Which ever you choose, have a wonderful time!!

    Thank you!

The truth is our honeymoon was our first trip away from South America, and we have been in 3 ports only: San Juan de Puerto Rico, St Marteen and St Kitts. As we don't know any other port, it is hard to say which one we would like to visit first (Bermuda, Bahamas, St Thomas, etc) and why. Every port sounds great!

  7. So I'm getting married on January, we're both 24 and we were looking at cruises going to the Western Caribbean. The 3 I found that are on my budget are:

    Norwegian Epic (Norwegian Cruise Line)

    Carnival Splendor (Carnival Cruise Lines)

MS Nieuw Amsterdam (Holland America Line)

Does anyone have any knowledge on what would be the best one for my honeymoon? Any help would be very appreciated!

    CONGRATULATIONS!!!

I had my honeymoon on board the Celebrity Eclipse 2 years ago and it was unforgettable... We were 23 and 26. If Celebrity could be a valid option, I would recommend it. Almost no kids on board, relaxing atmosphere, it was great. If not, I am sorry but I can't help you :(

  8. Hi everybody, this is our first post. We are Daniela (25) and Nacho (28) from Buenos Aires, Argentina and we are really glad we've found you!

We got married 2 years ago, and our friends & family gave us the chance to pick a cruise (our first and only to date) for our honeymoon. As we were not paying for it :) we chose the Celebrity Eclipse, which seemed to have the relaxing-quiet-romantic mood we were looking for - we certainly had the time of our lives. It is really REALLY expensive for us to flight to USA and sail on a cruise, that's why we couldn't sail again... not even a single day has passed without remembering those glorious days on board the Eclipse, the great food we had and all the fun.

We have been saving since the day we returned to Buenos Aires and almost reached our goal: we are choosing our second cruise, but this time everything is up to us.

Since we enjoyed Celebrity so much, we are looking to come back with them. On the dates available for us, we could catch the Silhouette for a 7 day cruise or the Constellation for a 9 day cruise. As it is so hard for us to go on board, we would choose the 9 night cruise to enjoy +2 days and ports.

This is my first question... As we've been on the Eclipse, Will we still enjoy the Constellation? Or the difference between the S class and a M class -yet upgraded- is THAT important? Is the food the same? Will we yearn the Eclipse?

That would be the main question, we will surely have further issues so I will be bothering you again :)

Thank you for your help! And feel free to contact us for any question about Buenos Aires or South America.

    Best Regards! D+N

Ps: Sorry for our english and please forgive any misspelling, remember we are spanish-speakers doing our best effort :(
