  1. Anyone have an updated list from the Dawn? Particularly interested in the HD and Concierge. TIA!

We were on the Dawn June 15. Bowen was the Concierge.....is absolutely fantastic. Always visible, checked in with you during day, helped with whatever you asked of him. Really took the time to know the suite passengers. You won’t be disappointed.

  2. My sister lives on St John. She wasn't able to call me until Saturday. She lives in Coral Bay and it took hours to get to Cruz Bay, which is where ferries dock and the "downtown". Thank God she is ok, but so shaken. So many have nothing. Said it does look like a war zone. Could be months before her side of island has power. Westin and Caneel had damage and getting ferries to take tourists to St Croix and Puerto Rico. So many houses gone. She was one of blessed that her house is still standing....only one in neighborhood, Medical supplies/attention, food, water etc being ferried in. No vegetation. I am scheduled to cruise end of October, but have a strong feeling will be rerouted. Wish we would be stopping in STT so I could bring things to her.

  3. I thought the crew left at the end of the day but guess some have to live there to care for the horses, etc. Doesn't look great for many of the islands we've visited with HAL: Grand Turk, HMC, San Juan, Tortola, St. Thomas, Tortola, St. Barts, and, of course, Key West. Not to mention damage at Port Everglades and/or Tampa.

My sister lives on St. John; have not heard from her or her friends yet. But on a site that residents are checking in on, they are saying so far no serious injuries reported and using terms like complete devastation on island. But residents on parts of island not heard from yet.

  4. Skubi....I am also recently widowed and trying to tell myself it's ok to get on a ship by myself....so many emotions inside my head. We cruised mostly on NCL, 2 or 3 times a year....always so happy and relaxed when cruising. I have a couple cruises planned with friends and adult children over the next 8 months. Maybe I should find a "last minute" 7 day cruise and give it a try. We met a few solo cruisers through the years at various on ship activities, and we always enjoyed meeting them at some point during the cruise. When is your cruise on the Epic.....will be looking forward to your thoughts when you return. All suggestions in these replies are helpful.

  5. Thanks for info! Will soon be in Owner's Suite on Dawn for first time and looking for extra tips like this! So ask for the Island Oasis Pina Colada mixer then? :D Never thought of the blender, either! I can taste them now sitting in the sunshine on the balcony.... Still have snow in my yard! lol

  6. On our first cruise, we made the rookie "mistake" of calling room service to have a pizza delivered. Of course, it was delivered by the butler... With a request to call him next time. Lol.

Oh and regarding asking the butler to draw one's bath... I was quite impressed with the specialty bath menu in our suite on the Dawn! But did not avail of those services. Maybe next time.

We've sailed on the Dawn in suites 4 times and never seen the "speciality bath menu". When was your sailing? Will be sailing on the Dawn soon in an Owners Suite....will have to look for that!! Lol.

  7. We have done the Boston-Quebec-Boston 14 day cruises on the NCL Dawn twice. Have not sailed on RCCL, so cannot comment on them. Absolutely love the itineraries. The ports were beautiful. Favorites are LaBaie (Saguenay) and Cornerbrook (Newfoundland). Being from Massachusetts and being at both before, Portland and Bar Harbor were great walking around town days. Gaspese, Charlottetown PEI, Sydney, St. John and Halifax were some of the other ports. Very few children on the ship. Have been on the Dawn many times and have always enjoyed the ship. Last year we had an over night in Quebec City, which was fantastic. Hoping to do this itinerary again next year. :)
