  1. I took my first solo cruise on the Starward on 09/13/92 through Singleworld and am sorry that Singleworld is out of business. I prefer travelling alone and Singleworld made that more comfortable.

While my cabin on the Starward was off-putting (inside cabin, lower deck), I enjoyed meeting with other solo diners at dinner and discussing our daily activities. I haven't sailed on NCL since then, in part because of the lack of set dining. I enjoy having the option of not dining in the diningroom, but if I chose to, it's nice to have someone to talk with whom I didn't spend the entire day.

  2. I just came across this thread and the Starward was also my first cruise. I sailed solo in September 1992 as part of a Singleworld group. It was nice because I was at a table with other solo travelers. The route was the same that chasetf described - San Juan, full day at sea to Barbados, then St. Maarten, Antigua, etc. I thoroughly enjoyed the cruise except for my cabin.

I remember that I purposely chose that route because if I had gotten too seasick I planned to fly back from Barbados, but I didn't get too sick even though I had an inside cabin on a lower deck and could smell the fumes from the ship's engines in my cabin. Could that be the reason that I waited 12 years to take my next cruise?
