  1. Hi,

If you go to https://cruiseexcursions.thomson.co.uk/ you can browse all the thomson excursions that are available for your cruise.

They do not have such a wide selection as say P and O, but it does make choosing an excursion easier with less to choose from. You can also pay on this site as well and all being well your tickets will be delivered to you when you are onboard.

We cruise in March and some of the excusions have limited numbers, so it might pay to book early.

    Have an amazing cruise

  2. Hi

We're off to the Monaco Grand Prix next month, and we've been advised to get ear defenders. We've looked into work safety ones, but there is a big difference in price, and it's hard to know whether or not the price is related to quality. We prefer to buy really good ones as my DW has very sensitive hearing (i.e. doesn't miss a thing!). Does anyone have any advice on brand or type etc?

    Thanks

Oh wow!! lucky you. That is on my wishlist too, although DW does not know it yet!

I work in engineering in a very noisy department. If I were you I would cover all my bases. You might find the silicon roll up ear plugs that fit in your ear quite sufficiant (make sure you roll them up and put them right in the ear so they mould to the shape of your ear) they are easy enough to pull out.

If it still to noisy for your wife, she could wear ear defenders as well (they could become uncomfortable if the weather is warm) Make sure they are light weight and I would not pay more than £15 for them.

Hope you have an amazing cruise and a fab day at the grand prix

  3. It is coming up time to book seats for our upcoming Caribbean Cruise on Britannia. We have been many times with P&O to Carribean but have never booked seats before. We are going on a Thomson Dreamliner which has 3-3-3 seat config ABC DEF GHJ. I've read that we cannot book aisle seats (is that correct ?) If so which pairs of seats can be book. Ideally we would book BC or GH but don't think that this is allowed. Can anyone tell me the exact rules......thanks

    Hi

We are on the Dreamliner in 4 weeks time and we booked E and F no problem. That way either of us can get up and go for a walk without disturbing a stranger.

Have a great cruise, we are certainly looking forward to ours :)

  4. thanks for resturant info does anybody know the times the ship will be leaving the ports ??? some days it says evening and some days says early evening !!!!just looking when to book our meals

If you log into the roll call you have subscribed to you will find all the times supplied by Ascot2012 on either the first or second page.

  5. We are off on our first fly cruise in November and we're both getting really excited. Just have a couple of questions:

Can anyone tell which jabs they had for these islands? I am finding conflicting information. We have booked to see our nurse but will be interested to see what people have already had.

Also I know this might sound a bit daft but when we go swimming what do we do with our things, especially our cruise cards? I am concerned that one of us will need to sit on the beach with everything while the other goes in the sea. What has everyone done.

Any answers will be greatly appreciated. Thanks everyone

We went on our first cruise last year too. As regards the cruise cards etc, we bought a waterproof money belt off the internet and it works very well.

As for the jabs I think as long as your tetanus is up to date nothing else is required, but best to check with your nurse.

Have a lovely cruise, we are on the Britannia in November in the Caribbean too, can't wait :)

  6. There are no mandatory ones but there are some advisory ones. Book an appointment with you practice nurse at your GP surgery and they will advise based on your itinery. Take your ports of call with you. No one on here can advise you as they have no knowledge of your medical history.

    Brian

At least 8 weeks before you go is posted on my surgeries notice board :)

  7. Have checked P&O Frequently Asked questions but found to conclusive answer.

Can you dress Casual on Formal Night when going to the Limelight Club ?

    Hi Micky,

The answer is yes. If you go onto your cruise personaliser and go to the limelight Club it states on that page you can dress casually even on formal nights . :)

  8. Evening all, on Britannia 9 Oct and want to book the Limelight club but don't want to miss out on the pomp of the black tie nights. Have looked everywhere but can't find which nights, I know there are 3 black tie nights but which?

While I'm here, any know what the ballroom dancing is like on board? Love it love it :)

We are on Britannia on 19th November and the black tie nights are all on the sea days.

Pass on the ballroom dancing bit, no idea :)

  9. Are you on Britannia 4/5th November? If so, we're on the same cruise. I think you'll find it's not going to Curaçao now, but Bonaire instead.

Hi Garfunkel, No we are on the cruise after you. The 18/19th November and as we are aware at the moment we are still going to Curacao

  10. From the list of your destinations these are the ones we would target for beach days because of decent beaches and ease of getting there:

Barbados - Carlisle Bay choice of beach bars with facilities (The Boatyard more lively vibe or further along to Harbour Lights which is quieter) You can walk to Carlisle Bay but it's about half an hour - not so bad early but not recommended when it's really hot. Plenty of taxis dockside. Our you can catch a local bus from the centre or get a taxi to Accra Beach which we like. It's a bit further out. Or, get the local bus from the bus station along the promenade near the port in the opposite direction towards Speightstown and get off there or at an earlier point at Holetown - beautiful beaches. With a late departure from Barbados you have plenty of time without worrying too much about getting back in time.

Grenada & St Maarten are both easy water taxis transfers from jetties close to the berth to the beach.

Aruba - again lots of beaches on a long strip of sandy coast line. Local buses run from the bus station opposite where you dock. Ask the driver to put you off at the beach. As with the other ports, plenty of taxis around too.

Antigua we use the local bus to Church Valley beach - there are several along this stretch of coastline (I think it's Turner's at the far end but we prefer CV)

St Lucia does have lovely beaches - we usually make for Rodney Bay but I think taking a private tour with Cosol would be recommended by many. Great day, reasonable price and you see a lot of the island. Google him book online and pay at the end of the tour.

Curacao is an interesting town to explore and there are local mini bus tours you can pick up from near the swing bridge.

St Vincent we've only done one beach which we weren't too keen on so can't help much with that.

Dominica is a lush island and perhaps a good one to do an island tour. There's not too much in Roseau although we do like the vibe and a stroll around but half a day is probably enough.

Hope that helps. I'm sure others will have some more ideas for you too.

Thank you for taking the time to give us such a detailed answer, you have certainly given us something to think about:):):)

  11. Hi Everyone, We are on our first P and O cruise in November in the Caribbean, doing the following islands : Barbados, Curacao, Aruba, Grenada, St Vincent, St Lucia, Dominica, Antigua, St Maarten and back to Barbados.

What we would like to know is which islands are probably best for sightseeing and which are best for just lazing on the beach?

    Thank you in advance:):)

  12. Hi, We are on our first P and O cruise in November. Bought my tuxedo online at Dobell for £50 was £100 and it fits like a glove. Excellent service too. They do all the various shirts and bow ties as well.

  13. Hi we are due on our first ever cruise in a couple of weeks time on the Liberty.

    Our question is.

Do Carnival provide you with some sort of map when you embark so you know how to get around the ship and know where everything is? Because the ship seems enormous to me.

Getting very excited nad can't wait

  14. We understand that you get a free bottle of wine in the steakhouse on the first night of the cruise. We are due to sail on the Liberty joining in Barbados on the 6th May and disembarking 13th of May.

I know that 99% of the passengers will join the ship in San Juan on the 3rd of May so they will get the free bottle of wine then.

Will we get a free bottle on the 6th of May or have to wait until the 10th of May when the ship departs San Juan again?
