  1. Be careful with wifi calling.  I used wifi calling I the US - data roaming off and airplane mode, so just using wifi on my iPhone.

Got charged a lot anyway. After talking to Rogers, they sent me a document stating that wifi calling ONLY applies when wifi calling from one Canadian phone number to another.  I was charged for every call to a US number!  Got the charges reversed, but was a hassle.

  2. We are also from Toronto. We are taking the same cruise on February 26. We’ve booked WestJet (Ait Transat also flies the route) for February 24.  We are staying for the two nights at an all inclusive in Punta Cana (safer to be in a tourist area) for $280/night, including all food and drinks.  We will book a transfer service directly from the resort to the pier for the morning the cruise leaves. Will hope to share the cost with another couple. At the end of the cruise, will also book NCL transfers.  Hope this helps!

  3. Just booked a 14 day cruise for February on the Sky. Ocean view with large picture window. Took Free at Sea promotion but without drink package (we won’t drink the $600 service charge).  Including gratuities and all port taxes and fees, $3022 for 2 people.  I think that’s quite reasonable.

  4. I did both last month - Road to Hana and West Maui. First is more scenic, second more “touristy”. I found the Road to Hana more interesting and scenic - but will you have enough time? We went with Valley Isle excursions and were back around 4:30. But if there are any delays on the road, you might be cutting it close.

  5. When on Maui a few weeks ago I took a 45 minute helicopter ride - for only $100! Air Maui will sell the middle seat in the second row for $100, but only the day of the flight or maybe the night before. Only one seat per 'copter. I went over Molokai, my brother on a different helicopter over Haleakala

  6. We also rented a car in Kauai for the day when on the January 6-13 POA cruise. We rented from Thrifty, online, using an AAA/CAA discount code. Quick pickup from the pier to the airport to rent, quick rental, easy return, quick shuttle back to pier. Rental cost was $50 for the day for an intermediate size car.

  7. I was on the POA, getting ready to disembark when the false missile threat occurred. An announcement came over the loudspeaker that due to a security incident, they were suspending the disembarking process. We had no details. About 20 minutes later we were allowed to disembark. We were told that someone had pushed the wrong button.

When we got to where our Roberts ride to the airport was to meet us, we were told to wait in a particular spot until the busses were allowed into the port. Once we were on the bus, our cell phones all rang with the all clear. Funny to hear them all go off at the same time!

  8. I have a concern about the new Platinum benefits - specifically, the rules for the specialty dinners. Both hubby and I are platinum members. Logic tells me that EACH of us should be entitled to a dinner at Le Bistro or Cagney's (and the same for the other two choices, La Cucina and Moderno). Thus, we should be entitled to go to all four if we wished, with each of us getting a dinner for two - to two restaurants each.

But in fact, we get the same benefit as if only one of us was platinum. Why is that specific benefit per stateroom rather than per platinum member? Not nice!
