  1. Hi, Bob,

I don't think you're right about additional bottles on RCI

I know Princess permit extra bottles with a levy of $15 per bottle (I use the word levy rather than corkage, because its charged on additional bottles brought aboard regardless of who opens them or where they're consumed, and I'm pretty certain that some other lines have a similar policy.

But I don't think RCI permit extra bottles for drinking aboard, period. (those bought ashore to take home will be "safeguarded" by security staff & returned to passengers sometime on the last full day).

This seems to be confirmed by an FAQ on their website. https://www.royalcaribbean.com/faq/questions/charge-corkage-fee

On the other hand, I feel sure I learned of a change of policy and that no corkage would be charged on the two permitted bottles per stateroom if consumed in a public area, such as a dining room.

But that FAQ doesn't reflect that change of policy.

    Did I dream it???

    JB :)

You can most certainly take 2 bottles per stateroom on RCI of either wine or champagne - it's posted on their site AND we do it every time! No corkage fees if NOT brought to dining room.

  2. I am a smoker. We have been cruising over 25 years. We always follow the smoking rules but do see those who do not. What I find most irritating are the grumbles of non-smokers as they pass right thru the designated smoking areas. It's quite unfair to complain about something when the rules are being followed. I realize smoking is an awful, smelly habit. I do not smoke in my home or vehicle. Never the less, I DO enjoy smoking and will continue to do so and make every attempt to be polite about it. We have saved a TON of cruise fare by no longer purchasing balcony suites - we did that for years - now with the stricter policies I don't bother with a balcony since I can't use it for the purpose I wished.

I figure I am a paying customer just like every non-smoker and I will continue to cruise several times per year until smoking is no longer allowed at all on board. In the meantime, I will smoke where posted smoking areas are and try to be quick about it!

  3. Here is my review of the sunshine. Not the greatest, but I'm doing it as we r flying home. I was pretty indifferent about the ship. Would cruise it again if it had cheap sailing and going to the ports I wanted. That being said if there was another ship that offered the same thing, I would probably choose the other ship.

A few days before leaving we were able to upgrade from an inside cabin mid ship to a balcony aft deck 7 for cheaper and got the difference back on our cc. Very excited bc we had never had a balcony (always happy with an inside), but nervous bc it was aft. Turned out we loved being aft deck 7. We were also able to secure a FTTF.

We arrived at orlando airport abt 7am after taking a red eye from los angeles. Got some breakfast and then went down to wait for the carnival transportation. We were the 1st ones on the first bus going out at about 10am.

We leave this Saturday and are in Aft 7330 - excited because it's our first AFT location - which cabin were you on and please, if you have time, elaborate a bit on the cabin! Oh, and what was your stewards name? - thanks for the review!

  4. you are not getting some form of discount based on your residence, you will have no problem.

    But, you should consider . . .

    A) obtaining a passport. Yes, it costs a few dollar more BUT it is good for several years. So, you can consider it as only "$x for each year of a 10-year period." This will save you hassles in the future for any/all future trips; OR

    B) go to your new state of residency and get a State ID card as opposed to a new DL. The State ID card costs only a few dollars and will work.

FYI, Keep in mind IF you get an ID card printed in any state, it automatically cancels your drivers license in any state. Be careful not to lose your driving privilege. Seems like it would just be easier to get a new DL issued in your new home state ASAP.
