Since my wife uses a scooter....a few comments. Scooters are for those that need help. A wheelchair is for those that are immobile. So people with scooters can walk and move.
So if you have a scooter, make sure it can fit into the room. If it can't, have a room near the elevator banks. Usually, you can park it there for short periods of time.
If you leave it in the hall, I don't think the ship is going to get fined, and it's not against the law. Look at all the service carts in the hallway during the day. What about all the luggage on boarding day, and the night before getting off. It is however, still not a good idea. Others, on scooters need to get by also, along with other people. Blocking a hallway is never good.
Best think, if you plan on going on cruises is get one that fits in the cabin.....and enjoy
Hi,
Your thoughts are incorrect, SOLAS (Safety of Life at Sea) which cruise ships have to comply with as it is against the law.

If they do what they did last year, the first batch will be released in November/December 2018. Remaining itineraries will be released in spring 2019.

How do you take your cream tea. The Devon or Cornwall way?
For me it's Cornish every time :D
Hi,
Makes no difference to me as it all goes down your gob.

Do not scratch your lady parts only minutes before serving yourself at the buffet... and walking right past the hand washing station without using it... so gross

My only real gripe is with passengers with scooters who seem to think they have the right of way.....I will let you out of the elevator before I get on but other than that, I think they should wait their turn like everybody else.
Hi,
I have to agree with you there and I am a scooter user, there are some disabled people who think that the world owes them a living. One thing I would say is that when you are using a scooter you do become invisible to people.

Hi,
P&O only allow scooters in accessible rooms.

I'm not.
I know baked beans reputation but when eaten early with bacon and eggs it has never caused any problems for me.
I believe you, honestly, 100% :D

Baked beans work well with the English breakfast and rarely cause wind when eaten in the morning.
Stop taking the proverbial.

Also - can anyone answer a battery question? Im thinking of buying a SmartScoot - NCL says the battery needs to be a gel cell? Does that mean a SmartScoot won't be allowed on NCL ship?
Hi,
I think I am correct in saying that all mobility scooter batteries are now "airsafe" in that they aren't wet cells, there are several types of gel batteries and the SmartScoot uses a type that is ok for air transit. I mention about air travel as the rules and regulations regarding taking a scooter on an aircraft are more stringent than on ships.
Hope this helps.

Hi,
Forgot to add,
When on port days and you want to get off with the scooter, usually there are gang planks, if you can walk up and down them get off and let the staff assist you, they will drive the scooter down by walking at the side but if they do make sure that they use the switch to take the motor out of gear so it is free wheel, this won't damage the motor. If they want to drive it up or down by sitting on it then OK, if you do this it is so uncomfortable as there are wooden laths across the gang plank to assist walking up and down it.

Hi,
When using a scooter you do become invisible to others, the best tool in your armoury is your mouth, you can alert people by reminding them you are there.
Scooters don't stop on a sixpence so when there are people around turn the speed control down. Remember you are the one out of the ordinary so you have to be more alert to you surroundings. Children can be tricky as they are off with the fairies because they are on their holidays. Think of using a scooter as though you are driving a vehicle, you wouldn't drive fast when driving down a street that has people all over it.
Use your peripheral vision at all times and don't reverse unless you know you are absolutely safe.
If a lift is too full there will always be another.
Watch out for people who just stop in front of you, some do it by accident but there are some, not many, who do it on purpose.
Most important, don't think that the world owes you a living because you are disabled, there are some that do.
Keep your scooter charged, plug it in whenever you can.
Hope this helps

Hi,
It is about a crowd of people being in a relatively confind space, you are bound to have somebody with a cold or such like, especially aircraft, this phenomena increased when airlines banned smoking on planes, they stopped "scrubbing" the air in the air conditioning as it was cheaper for them to do this. Scrubbing removed the particles that passed on illness.

Nothing beats an artery clogging Chip Butty. Bread roll, or 2 slices of bread, with chips (fries). Add a little salt, few drops of vinegar and HP Sauce.
Heidi,
You are my king of girl.
Chip butty Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
or
Bacon butty (but not with the American rubbish), brown sauce and a brew.

We have a cruise coming up originating in Southampton. We are prob going to fly in a day early and want to stay in Southampton. I read that irs 65 miles from Heathrow!!!
After flying all night from US we will be tired. What’s the best way to get from the airport to Southampton? Most flights from our home city go to Heathrow but was wondering if there’s a closer airport. Suggestions and info from others who’ve sailed out of Southampton appreciated.
Hi,
As a suggestion change the "prob" to definitely, too risky flying in the day of the cruise.

Hi,
No one will be bothered about your husbands medication in whatever way you store them. Take your repeat prescription just in case you loose the meds or need more and make sure you carry them with you on planes and onto the ship.

My kids said that it is OK to spend money. So, we do. Both of us in our 70s and we have almost 500 days in the past 23 years on board ships, with plenty more scheduled. We don't do suites, doesn't make sense to us. That can use up money really quick. And, prices are slowly rising. Many years ago, I tried not to book anything for more than $100/day/person. Not easy to do anymore.
And...how did the OP think that he/she was going the 'close' this thread? Maybe not ever look again, but one cannot 'close' a thread.

Hi,
Don't know if this is still possible, if you can't get a refund on OBC then on the last night of the cruise withdraw it as cash from the Casino, OK you pay a small percentage but if it was free then its all yours.

Hi,
You said about the hallways where "carts" are, I presume you mean the cleaners leaving their carts just outside the door of the room wedged open that they are cleaning, these would count as "attended" but leaving mobility scooters outside a room in the hallway whilst asleep or at least with the door closed would be classed as unattended and as these hallways are escape routes it would fall under the SOLAS regulations.
When all is said and done about SOLAS it would be very irresponsible of a person to leave a scooter in a position that COULD cause a problem to others be that a danger if there is a problem or just an obstruction for another passenger in getting to their room.
