Thanks so much for your most inclusive review!
We likewise compared ACL's literature and reviews to the other line offering American river cruises and likewise decided ACL appeared advantageous. We also know a couple who has used this company for numerous vacations and highly recommended them to us.
Since we are well seasoned travelers (ninety-seven countries and all seven continents), we have purposely saved our American river cruises for later on and concentrated on a few other foreign ones first, along with a numerous other group country tours before booking this river cruise. Generally, our traveling is done independently with much research and car rentals. We have visited all of our 50 states during our eight two month drives on different routes across America. Our 29 other cruises were all done purely by itinerary, never favoring any line in particular, as our prime purpose was to expose ourselves to new counties, cultures, native foods and etc. So this will be a much anticipated cruise for us.
Thanks again, for taking the time to give us your opinions!

We also just love:
Halls Chophouse, 434 King Street, Charleston.
Enjoy your cruise!

Likewise we are booked on ACL for Oct.2 to do the Upper Mississippi from St. Louis to St. Paul, MN. Then we'll explore the MN area before returning a week later. This will be our first American river cruise, but we have done 3 other river cruises and really enjoyed them. We have been to all fifty of our states in leisurely travel driving across our great country eight different times-so this will be from a different perspective. Our first choice would have been to do a themed 50's-60's ACL cruise, but those were all in the summer and would have been too hot for us; so we decided to do a foliage one, as the weather then will be much more to our liking.

We likewise have been looking for a hotel in Mestre, but can't seem to find one accepting bookings so early. May I ask where you are booked?
Thanks!

Hurtigruten gets into your blood. I have done six star cruise lines, however hurtigruten up and down the Norrway coastline is far and above the experience you will feel on any cruise line. The ships stop at the most remote villages/ports and you feel part of Norway. In a way I hope that they do not get more ships that cruise up there. River cruising in Europe is starting to be way too crowded when you have to go through four ships to get to your ship.
Have you taken the above Hurtigruten cruise? We are interested in connecting with someone who has done it as we are booked and anxious to see this area.
Thanks for your help!

My brother-in-law has a 40' sailboat which we have sailed in extensively! Actually I'd prefer a river or ocean cruise!

We had a wonderful experience abroad this freighter back in '03 on its second voyage. War had broken out the day before this trip, so only 70 of the orininally booked 200 passengers boarded! Probably 50% were American. There was exceptional friendliness between all passengers of all nationalities at all times. There was never pushing or shoving. These were all well-traveled passangers who shared wonderful ideas about their travels. We have toured extensively all 50 states, 75 countries, and all 7 continents, and this was one of the most exciting and adventurous trips we have made! We have met many new friends amid our travels and have recommended this exciting freighter cruise to many people who all have experienced the same thrills we did everyday at every port. It is not a luxurious cruise, and not meant for anyone not adventurous and interested in other cultures and unique experiences. Four of our newest American friends we met in Turkey 2 years ago, just did this freighter cruise in July and enjoyed the exact same experiences we did and just loved the trip. Anyone interested in any info I might have, please feel free to email me jegk1@comcast.net and I will be most happy to share!:)

We sailed on it and had a fantastic time. A wide variety of passengers represented many different country and ages were generally above 50. The ship itself is new and offers much to do on an independent basis. Food, service, and tours were likewise very good. If you are interested in an adventure, I don't think many other lines offer an itinerary as unique as this. However, this is not a luxury cruise!
