  1. On our Magic cruise in February our waiting times were 40 - 50 minutes each time. We usually checked in around 6 - 7 pm.

I liked it better before the app for two reasons. 1. I don't want to deal with a phone on a cruise.     2. Before the app we would just walk up and request a table and never had to wait more than 10 minutes.

  2. We will be returning from a cruise out of NO on Aug 31. Our flight out of NO is not until 5pm. We do not want to sit in the airport for hours.

Does anyone know of any tours in NO that will allow you to take your bags?

Even better, does anyone know of a service that will take your bags to the airport for you?

  3. We would give our son a $100 limit per cruise. If he spent it all the first day, so be it. He learned from the experience and did better the next time.

We never heard him complain about lack of funds. After he was out of money, he took advantage of the many included options available to him.

TBH both Virgin cruises we took were casino comped. Just be aware their casinos are a quarter to half  the size of a standard Carnival cruiseship casino but still a fun time. I'll leave you with some photos of their wonderful pastries and sweets that bests even Celebrity and are speciality bakery quality, all included in your cruisefare!

I believe you have convinced me to try Virgin.

My post wasn't an argument with you, I'm sorry if it came across that way. I was just posting about two recent Celebrity experiences and how different they were even on the same cruiseline. I don't disagree with your overall sentiments about both cruiselines. For the record, I'm Diamond on Carnival with 26 cruises and Elite+ on Celebrity with 24.

It's all good. Have a great rest of the week.

I was on the Celebrity Flagship Beyond in October and an older ship the Solstice in February. It was very, very obvious that Celebrity is targeting the younger demographic with their new Edge Class ships and the more traditional cruise experience with their other ships. Everything from music, shows, and activities were different on Celebrity's newer ships than the older ones.

    ok, you win

We have sails Celebrity Summit and Carnival Horizon.

While we have enjoyed any cruise we have been on,

we do enjoy Carnival more. Horizon has many amenities.

Our favorite thermal spa area, lots of great dining choices,

lots of activity for lots of fun - though late hours.

Summit's dining was great too, as was the cabin we were in.

The activities seemed few and far between.

The entertainment was comparable to our CCL sailings on Horizon and Mardi Gras.

    Planned activities not so much.

And if you like late night adventure, Celebrity is not for you.

Things got very quiet after about 8:30PM...

Perhaps when we are older, sailing without kids again, we will try celebrity again.

For now Carnival meets many of our "vacation needs" and style of vacation.

As long as we are sailing through the Caribbean, the ports are all same old same old...

So that is not a factor either.

We talk about doing a couple European sailings when we are older too,

then Celebrity would be a contender for us then too.

    I agree with your post,

We are older. Carnival is more fun, even in your 60's. I have a blast with all the late night activities on Carnival. It's not uncommon for us to close the disco down. We're not ready to sit down yet.

  8. My husband and I went on our first Celebrity cruise this past January.

We came home and I have booked two cruises on Carnival.

For the things we enjoy, Carnival wins hands down.

We are in our 60's and decided to try Celebrity because it was supposed to be "better."

We found ourselves wishing we were on Carnival so we could go to the comedy club, piano bar, etc etc. Celebrity was too sedate for us. We like action and activity. The Celebrity shows beat Carnival hands down. Other than that, Carnival is just more fun.

Service dogs can be any breed. And the service dog (who is considered medical equipment by the ADA) trumps a person’s allergies when it comes to public access. A person with allergies can of course request to be seated far away from the dog. In situations such as a flight, if the person with allergies doesn’t want to fly with a dog on a plane, they are the ones who are bumped to another flight, not the person with the service dog. I’m highly allergic to cats, but if they fit under the seat, people can bring them on a flight too and I just cross my fingers that they are far away. Same with small dogs.

As far as encountering the SD on a cruise, trust me when I say the dog’s handler would much prefer you keep your distance as well. (Not you specifically, just people who think it’s okay to distract the dog.)

Thank you. This was very informative.

Let me give you examples of what I have seen in the last year.

Standing patiently at the customer service desk waiting my turn in line.  A man and woman going at each other right in the middle of the atrium.  I mean cussing, yelling, screaming at each other.  We are talking right in the middle of... oh, I don't know... like 50 people. Didn't give a crap who was listening or watching.

Again, another cruise, standing patiently at customer service.  Three young gentlemen (I use that term in jest - like 10-13 if I had to guess - no parents in sight) are jogging around the atrium hitting and running into each other.  Go running up to the Kiosk and start slamming buttons and literally hitting and kicking the kiosk.  One of them then turns around runs up to the customer service desk and demands the agent give him a band aid because he cut his hand.  The agent politely (man I give him tons of credit) tells the boy to please politely wait his turn in line and he would be happy to help him.  This child begins to scream and cuss this guy out... I mean F this and F that and you B...  It was all I could do to not grab this little punk around the neck and slap him silly.

A group of kinds at 1am running down the halls banging on every single door and yelling and screaming as they do.

Drunks and I mean to the point where security was called in.

Again, this is is just in the last 6 or 7 cruises.  These are what I would call the "bigger" things.

Smaller things.... No courtesy in buffet / food lines.  People feel they are too good to wait like everyone else.  Attitude if they don't get what they want. Rudeness to staff and other guests.  Letting it ALL hang out everywhere (again the pool deck is fine you want to be like that, but not in the indoor  public places and especially where I am eating please!).

Again, on ships it just this behavior just seems more "compact" and in your face than what you might see day to day.  And again, IMHO my own personal experience the shorter/less expensive the cruise the worse it gets.

Got to take the good with the bad.

Wow, what bad luck. All this on your last 6 or 7 cruises. I am sure after all this, you are done with Carnival forever.

How have we regressed as a society? 40 years ago before plastic straws, straws were made out of waxed paper. I remember McDonald's cups used to be made of wax paper too. Straws went to plastic and eventually so did McDonald's cups. Why can we not use wax paper anymore? And who decided making straws out of candy was a good idea?

Yes, I remember those straws. Those straws held up. These new paper straws deteriorate before you can finish the drink.
