  1. The camera is just a tool to create an image. It is your perspective on and understanding of the subject matter that's going to be of value to the people viewing the image (even if it's only you watching it many months or years later).

So, be thoughtful in what you photograph. Have something to say. Be ruthless in throwing out photographs that don't have anything interesting to say, and forgiving of those photographs with technical flaws.

  2. ... and I was instructed to post here.

My wife and I are going to the Caribbean in early November for 7 days on the Westerdam. There are two formal nights, and we are in the process of wardrobe planning.

This is our first cruise - and it's a bit of challenge figuring out what's appropriate. I get that people where everything from dark suits and tuxes to cocktail dresses and gowns.

Is it Armani and Dior, or more mainstream ?

Also, after all this getting dressed up, and having dinner, what do people do afterwards? (would be a shame to call it a night after dinner).

  3. You should check with the Holland America board, I haven't cruised with them (yet), so I can't tell you what their idea of formal nights are, although I do expect them to actually be formal.

We've cruised with Princess and DH wears his standard tux and I wear a cocktail dress or longer gown.

There's nothing worse looking than everyone dressed up nicely except for a few people wandering around in casual clothes.

    Thanks to all the responders!

I get that people wear suits or tuxes and cocktail dresses or gowns. Are the tuxes Armani and the dresses Dior? I have a feeling that we are going to have to shop for formal wear, and I'm putting together the master plan...
