  1. Hello - my husband I will be on the Dawn in a few weeks. I received an email from Silversea stating that daily temp checks will be done by our butler each morning.  Has anyone who has sailed recently had this done?   No big deal if it is, but I thought they got rid of this a couple months ago.  Thanks in advance.

Embarkation generally begins at noon. Suites are available in most cases at 2 PM.  I think it is pretty safe to count on noon embarkation.

Thanks so much!  Can't wait for my trip!

  3. Hi there - sailing on the wind in February 2020.  My cruise documents say embarkation is from 14:00 - 16:00.   My flight arrives much earlier than that so wondering if I could actually get on earlier or will I have to find something to do to kill time?  Thanks for any input!

  4. Hi there - am considering splurging and booking royal suite on the Wind.  Any comments about it would be appreciated?   Extra perks with suite?   Champagnes etc...

Do you get sun on balcony?  Too big for solo traveler?  Many thanks for any input!

Hi There - I'm doing the Wind in February 2020, 10 nights.  Can you clarify what you mean about the people "in the know" in terms of champagne?   I love champagne!  Thanks

I wish I could remember the name of the special champagne. I think all you have to do is ask what are the options. I believe that staff will tell you what other choices you have. In general they are probably told to offer brand X unless a guest asks for something else.

    Thanks!

Hi, Chelseabelsea.  A couple of comments.  First. the Grill on Silversea ships is an outside venue on the pool deck or the deck just above.  It is Very casual.  It is also do it yourself, they bring hot rocks with slices of beef, shrimp etc and you do the cooking.  I personally hate the Grill.  On 7 cruises I have done it twice, once was fun, we were in very rough seas in the Caribbean, the ship was rolling like hell, the water from the pool was shooting 8-10 feet in the air, and drenching everyone on the pool deck tables.  Other than that, I simply am not cooking my own food.  I am on vacation.

Other than echoing TotheSunset above, you cannot overdress on a Silversea ship.  I personally love formal nights, I have all the gear but its a rare occasion to dress up.  I always schedule La Dame for the first formal night. ( A question for the men doing the June 22 Norway cruise-Since its summer is anyone bringing a white tux jacket instead of black?).  For Men, sportcoats are required in the Restaurant.  So the environment is a little dressy, most women dress in cocktail party chic.  The reception desk at the Restaurant has a supply of blue blazers if the man does not want to run back to his cabin.  They do enforce this.  Again I like this, it creates a refined sophisticated atmosphere.  For me, a Silversea non-expedition cruise is an excuse to pull out all my fancy cruise clothes and dress up.  I think a lot of regular Silversea cruisers do this too.  Some cruises feel like floating fashion shows.  So go for it,  be creative and have fun with what your are wearing.

Hi there - why do you prefer La Dame on a formal night?  Any particular reason?  Thanks:)

We are new to CC. Our last cruise was the Silver Wind in the Caribbean in February. Yes, the Silver Wind is due for refurbishment so it is looking tired, but the experience was still top notch.

The fitness instructor was excellent although having to move chairs in the lounge each time was a bit of a drag.

    A few disappointment were:

    Ports of Call:

At most ports were many mega-ships so it really took away from any sort of exclusive experience. Each port had the same ships as the last.

    Excursions:

I realized you have to read the descriptions very carefully. A few excursions were hours on a bus to get to a snorkel destination that was not that great. The excursion concierge was useless.

    Food:

Overall the food was quite good and they were very accommodating. Mostly we ate in La Terrazza. Wish they had simpler lunch options in the dining room.

We only ate at the pool once and it was a disappointment, so we did not try it again.

It seems they are not up to speed on current dietary trends such as Low Carb. All of the yogurt was fat-free.

On board there was only 1 gluten-free cookie, a coconut macaroon that was cloyingly sweet, tough, and overbaked. Every single day, the same thing. I am not a great baker, but I routinely make gluten free treats that are more creative and taste a lot better. It's not that hard.

    Champagne:

Seems that those "in the know" were ordering some special champagne. We only found out about it on the 2nd to last night. Kind of annoyed me as we had champagne before dinner each evening.

    Cabin:

We booked directly with Silversea last minute but paid more than others who booked though an agent, who also got more generous shipboard credits. Also we never were asked about room amenities, etc. Our butler took care of it when we got on board but really, we kept asking our Silversea agent about this and he was absolutely of no help.

In future I will use a booking agent rather than go direct but I would definitely sail on Silversea again.

Thank you for the kind words😊 oh SS is fabulous for solos! They will do whatever you want and remember the amount of pax is much less and it is really easy to meet others. No pressure to join in but they make an effort for solos to have lounge area for drinks and are very accomadating. If you want to have dinner on your own? No problem. As for times? I eat in the 7:00 range and never had a problem.

Thanks Lois!   Can’t wait for February!

Hi, I have sailed solo since 2003 and no, I don't think I have been treated oddly by the wait staff if dining alone.  The Mait'rd may ask you if you want to share a table (I sailed with Azamara back in April). Just tell him you prefer to dine on your own.

Lois - do you think that eating in the mdr later is easier for getting a table by yourself?  I'm doing Silver Wind in February and want to enjoy all of the restaurants.  I am also a bit shy so won't ask to sit with others and I don't mind eating alone.  Just wondering if there is a time when restaurants aren't as busy?  Thanks for all of your contributions!

  10. I have had some issues as well.  I booked directly with SS.  I emailed my consultant after making the initial deposit but didn't hear back.  When I called, I found out that he isn't working there anymore and had a new person.  I have sent emails to her and haven't heard back.  I did receive confirmation about my booking and can access my account through the mysilversea.com link.  However, I still have questions and they are not being answered.  I don't think I will book directly with them again.

Hi Lois!  Hi LionsFan (is that NITTANY Lion?)!

I have only been on SS as a part of a couple.  (My first solo is this November.)  I observed that the solos are at officer or other invited tables and that the pool bar staff takes good care of them.  My first Seabourn will be next May so will report back too.

No, Detroit Lions (sadly lol).  I think I've decided to go with silver sea feb 3-13 as a solo!  Sounds like fun and lots to do even if I am all alone!

  12. I’m looking at booking one of those 3 for Caribbean cruise in early February 2020.  Seabourn Odyssey , silver sea wind, seadream yacht.   I’ve done Viking river cruise solo and loved it.  Wondering if anyone has any thoughts on those three?  Not too concerned about solo supplement as I can’t do much about that.  Just want to get a feel for how other guests interact with solos, staff etc...  thanks for any input.
