  1. Was on explorer this week. The wifi was very spotty. I have an iPhone 6 and had a lot of trouble getting on the Internet. Very slow. My son has a 5s and it worked better for him. Some days I only had internet once or twice. Many times our texts wouldn't go to each other even though we were both on the ship. It was better than nothing but don't count on it on the sea days. Purchase it before you sail for thirty percent off. It is not on sale once you board. They also wouldn't give me a discount for adding a second device once on board.

  2. I was curious if you tip on the Alaskan excursions. If so, how much? Do you tip everyone from the tour guide to the boat captain? If the tour operator is the owner of the tour, do you still tip them? What does everyone recommend?

  3. We sailed the Carnival Miracle in Alaska two years ago. Most people wore jeans in the dining room except for the formal nights. On formal nights, slacks and collared shirt for men and slacks and dressy shirt for women were common. During the day, active wear, leggings, jeans, jackets were what people wear. I do think Carnival is casual plus it was cold. I don't think the ships are heated and with the doors opening and closing to the outside all the time, the ship is cold. Don't miss standing on the upper decks when sailing the fjord. It was really nice. It was cold, but they have blankets for you. I never needed gloves but a lot if people were bundled up from head to toe.

  4. We cruised with Carnival at the end of July two years ago. Nobody was in any type of spring or summer clothes on our ship. I saw a lot of active wear, leggings, light weight jackets and jeans during the days. Even the formal night were very casual compared to a Caribbean cruise. There was a lot of north face, hoodies etc. Even in July, the ship is cool and if you go outside, it is very cold. We loved it! I recall thinking that next time I went, I would bring several light weight jackets to wear inside the ship and layer on the excursions. If your excursion is on the water, it will be cold. I wore jeans, t shirt, denim jacket, hoodie and a light weight rain coat on top. It was perfect for the weather. Formal nights, I wore black slacks and a nice shirt. Alaska cruises are very informal. Hope this helps.

  5. We're late planning a 2016 summer cruise and room choices are very limited. I was wondering if the Promenade rooms are very noisy. Has anyone stayed in one before? Our other choice is the deck below the Windjammer. My guess is that the crew cleans the windjammer at night and it might be even noisier. I would appreciate anyone's thoughts who has stayed in one of these rooms. Thanks

  6. I had the premium package. I tipped the MDR bartender the first night. After that, he brought me endless martinis through dinner and dessert. I did feel a little pressure to keep tipping $1 a drink, but those were some of the best drinks I had. In the bars, I only tipped when I received extra service. Some of the bartenders didn't charge for the virgin drink for my son. I never asked for a 'free" drink, but they just brought it. I tipped them $2 a drink. I was on the Oasis, so I moved around so much, I never really established a relationship with same bartender except for MDR. By the way, strongest drinks were in casino.

  7. I bought the Premium package on Oasis a few weeks ago. I really enjoyed not worrying about the cost of each drink or whether to get one or not. Dinner was the best because the waiter kept bringing my lemon drop martinis. I don't think I would have drank as much if I had to see the $14 bill each time. None of the waiters ever charged me for the virgin drinks I ordered for my son, though I never expected to get them for free. It was well worth it for me.

  8. Thank you for your review. We went on carnival to Alaska last year and loved it. We would like to book Radiance for next summer. We're really curious what the land tour part is like. We don't want to sit on a bus for extended periods of time. Also curious if the Radiance has karaoke, comedians, shows? My 19 year old will be bored at night if there's nothing to do. Thanks!

  9. Screaming Eagle in St Thomas is great, but you will get soaked. I was surprised a fish didn't end up in our laps! America's Cup Race was okay. I looked forward to it so much, but was disappointed. I couldn't enjoy the race because I had to concentrate on my "wrench" role. It was not fun. We did fishing in St Thomas. We didn't catch anything and 1/4 of people were seasick, but Crew was very nice and helpful. I don't regret going.

  10. The bounty paper towels with dawn infused in them were very handy. Used them to wash my drink package cup and clean a stain out some clothes. I also bring Clorox wipes to wipe down room. Flashlight if everyone is not getting up at same time. I did not need extra outlets. There are three by desk and two others under desk. Plenty of shelf space in bathroom.

  11. It's nice for a change of pace. The wait staff dances approximately every half hour. It's an old fashioned diner with all you can eat fries and onion rings. They bring them as soon as you sit down. The staff makes a happy face with the ketchup. My son likes a fried egg on his burger and try offer this option. For dessert, you get your choice of Oreo sundae or apple pie ala mode. The shakes are great but they cost about $5 on top of the cover charge. They have a complimentary breakfast.
