  1. We did the Klondike Gold Fields and Liarsville gold panning this week. Klondike was wonderful. They give you a big pan and good instructions and come around and help you. They will weigh your gold (all flakes of course) and you can buy a little pendant to put it into for $20. They also have a good snack bar. If you have time, combine it with the sled dog experience there on site. This guy named Matt gives an awesome talk about his experiences running the Iditarod 7 times and you can see the dogs and hold the puppies.

Liarsville gold panning was terrible in comparison but their salmon was good. They also had pretty good story-telling around a campfire.

I wouldn't want to walk to either location. It seemed like a 3 mile trip by bus over busy roads with no sidewalks.

  2. Basic strategy should not differ depending on whether the dealer hits or stays on soft 17. I question the accuracy of your charts. Go to wizardofodds.com to print off basic strategy charts. That is the best source.

All of the single deck blackjack games in Vegas pay 6-to-5 on blackjack instead of the standard 3-to-2. I can't imagine single deck on a cruise ship would be any better. Do NOT play any 6-to-5 blackjack. Ever. You will get royally screwed.

  3. This is weird. We are also flying in from Detroit, spending 1 night in Anchorage and then renting a car from Hertz to drive to Seward. We booked a room at the Voyager Inn because it is right next to the Hertz rental location. Another hotel right next to it is the Hotel Captain Cook. We are getting the car at 8am because we want to stop a few places on the way to Seward. In Seward we are staying at the Holiday Inn Express.

  4. Oh my gosh! Thank you! I was going to book the 4-hour cruise today but now I'm interested to hear more about the 8-hour one.

What types of wildlife did you see? Any whales? Did anyone get seasick? Do you think an 8 year old would do ok on such a long cruise? How was the food? What hotel did you stay at in Seward?

Sorry for all the questions. Thanks in advance!

  5. I'm divorced with joint legal and joint physical custody of my son.

I will bring with us - my passport, my drivers license, my son's original birth certificate, my son's passport, my divorce papers showing joint custody, and the notarized form I have from my ex giving permission for me to take our son to Canada in July of next year.

I already have what I need to get into and out of Canada. My question now is do I need to have notarized permission from my ex that gives permission for me to take him on the specific cruise and on the specific shore excursions. This would be a form that only RCL would require. I don't see anything about that on their website. Perhaps I should call them.

  6. Hello everyone. My son (age 8) and I are anxiously counting down the days until our cruise to Alaska on Radiance of the Seas in July. While we travel together frequently, this is our first cruise.

I have some questions on required documentation. I already have his passport and a notarized form signed by his father giving me permission to travel with our son to Canada (the cruise ends in Vancouver and we will spend 2 days there). It has the dates listed as well.

Does RCL also require a notarized consent form that specifies what ship and what shore excursions we will be going on? Or can my son board the ship and go on excursions simply because at least one parent is present?
