  1. Not to hijack this thread, but I will anyway.

I was driving around Europe several years with my family. We crossed several borders with little more than a wave. We crossed from France into

Switzerland with the border crossing totally unmanned. Sat there for several minutes before driving on. Fully expected a hail of bullets to follow.

Had to show more documentation to get a hotel room in Switzerland than it took to get in and out of Luxembourg.

You're right, you shouldn't have hijacked it with useless information that did nothing to help the new OP who asked a simple question.

The OP's question was answered in post #2. Not sure why all of you need to lecture or go off on argumentative tangents. It's not rocket science here.

  2. I see this posted all the time on CC & think some people must have reeeaaaalllllyyyyyyy horrible jobs. My job isn't the best ever, but I don't pay to go to work. Amazingly enough, they actually pay me, which many jobs people have on CC don't appear to do. When any cruise line not only lets me on for free, but pays me at the end of the week, this sentiment will have merit. Until then, this comparison just makes me shake my head. How can anyone equate a paid for vacation to going to work, which pays you?

To nacnac, I'm not picking on your personally. :) Sorry your post was the one I finally replied to, but I've seen this statement many times. For the record, it makes no sense at all, regardless of who posts it. Vacation shouldn't even compare to work. You paid the hard earned money that you suffered daily for in order to be able to vacation.

Lighten up, Francis. It's just a whimsical saying.

  3. I don't know... I don't think NCL's policy is very clear about early cancellations. Their website says something like canceling between 75-60 days before the cruise results in loss of the deposit. But, what about cancelling 130 days before? I can't find the answer anywhere. I am thinking about booking a cruise for 2016, but I don't know my vacation days yet, so it's possible I would have to cancel. Because of this, I'm just going to wait.

Also, I've never cruised on NCL, but I know changing cruises on Royal is no problem at all. I recently moved my cruise completely..new port, new dates and there was no penalty at all. I even got a refund because my new cruise was cheaper than the old one.

Now, I agree with you all that you have to understand all the terms before booking, but I don't think the OP is being completely unreasonable for asking.

    Pretty darned clear.

  4. In this day and age smoking should be banned in any confined/indoor area where human activity takes place everywhere in the world. That said obviously certain countries and continents dismiss the harmful effects of smoking on there subjects and continue to allow us to be subjected to this overrated life sucking habit normally in the name of greed.

NCL is no different they really should adopt a zero tolerance on allowing its customers to be subjected to harmful substances, nicotine being one of them. I find it deplorable that smoking is allowed in the casino where the smoke has nowhere to go but inhaled by all that is in the area.If you smoke that is your business and good luck with your health but morally you have a duty to your fellow human not to put there life in danger. (would you smoke in your car if your child was in there with you?) NCL on the other hand has a huge moral responsibility but seems to have chosen profit over well being and taken advantage of the other cruise lines decision to ban smoking inside, shame on you.

Come on NCL be a stand up company and do the right thing!

    Jazz:)

You already started one smoking thread this morning. Why bump another one from a year ago?

How is the view from your moral high horse?

    p.s. Non smoker here.

  5. I know that NCL is freestyle dining. My understanding is there are several restaurant options, one of which is a buffet, and you always dress as you wish with no specific formal nights or dining times. Please let me know if this is incorrect. My questions... Is there a MDR? Do you need to make reservations at the various restaurants? Is each restaurant cuisine specific? Are there also speciality restaurants that you have to pay extra for? Are there sit down options to the buffet for breakfast and lunch?

I highly suggest you check out Freestyle Dining on NCL.com. This information is readily available. Also check out the Freestyle Dining Guide to see what options are available for each ship along with prices, if applicable.

  6. That is really quite a vague question. I'm assuming you have looked all through the NCL web site to see what is offered in the way of ships, freestyle dining, entertainment, itineraries and price?

What do you like to do? Who is going? Ages?

I have no idea why you should choose NCL. Do some research, read some reviews and get an idea if it fits what you want.

I think you'll find you will get better/more answers if you have more specific questions.

    Cheers.

  7. You're right. Families should be banned from all restaurants on land or on sea. Geesh.

I also think many people have sticks so far up their tuchas that their nights are dramatically "ruined" if a child, on a Norwegian Cruise Line ship aimed at families of all places, attends a dinner with their family. Oh the humanity.

I for one will be taking my little one to Cirque in March on day 1 of our Breakaway cruise (included in UDP). And as we do in on-land restaurants, we will respect other patrons and will control our daughter or will leave if we cannot.

Many need to lighten up or take a different cruise line.

And by the time you remove your little Precious McPoopypants from the venue for acting up you have already disturbed the performers and the audience.

Try to think of others. An intimate performance venue is not the place to train your children on how to act in public.

  8. Agree about the ship and crew. We were on the same cruise and had a great time. I hope to post a "kind of review" review later tonight or tomorrow. I say kind of because I could never compete with the regular reviewers on here.

Just give it your best shot. Not everyone likes the fifty page War and Peace reviews with photos of the pre-cruise hotel room toilet paper holder. :D
