  1. gcorgain,

This has been one of the most uplifting threads that I have read since COVID showed its ugly head. I have read many seriously depressing accounts of quarantine on different cruise lines. I am very pleased to learn that Regent has showed it premium service by minimizing the grief for those stuck in this unfortunate situation.

Your updates has brought great comfort to many that were on the fence of cancelling or going ahead with their cruise.

Thank you so much for such excellent updates during this trying time. As you can tell, many of us have had that fear of being positive not so much of being sick but of being confined. I am sure that most of us are double vaccinated and boosted but still are able unfortunately to get a breakthrough infection with Omicron variant or one of the other variants.

I can simply say WELL DONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. I am going to respond not so much from a cruising perspective but from the general mask mandate issue. I am double vaccinated with Moderna and am 69 and my wife is 74. I obviously wear a mask when I am indoors following Illinois law which for me is only shopping, dining, & medical appointments. The other day I had a medical appointment to discuss an upcoming surgery and ended up wearing the mask for a little over 5 hours in a row at the medical facility. I felt like I couldn't breathe after a while and just wanted to escape where I was at.

It may have been the stress of the surgical consultation but I had never wore a mask for longer than it took it pick up groceries or get seated at a restaurant. I can't imagine any relaxing vacation or doing anything if I had to wear a mask more than a short period at a time. Plus I wear glasses and I see then don't see with every breath which drives me crazy because of the lens fogging up.

Frankly, I don't leave the house much anymore if I have to go in somewhere. I am good for a hour or so masked but soon I just get this feeling like I just want to rip the mask off and scream!

I don't know if this note was helpful but for me a mask and a relaxed vacation just don't go together especially when my wife and I have followed the rules and are fully vaccinated. We plan to get our boosters as soon as the Moderna one is approved for Senior Citizens.

Cruise Ship Color Status | Quarantine | CDC

Criteria for Ship Color Status – For Ships in US Waters

The following table lists cruise ships operating or planning to operate in U.S. waters.

Ship color status is determined using surveillance data from the previous 7 days—regardless of voyage dates— and CDC investigation findings.

The following persons are not included when determining a ship’s color status:

    • Passengers who test positive for COVID-19 on the day of embarkation who do not board the ship, or
    • Newly embarking crew members who test positive during their embarkation quarantine period.

    Cruise Ship Color Status

This table is updated several times a week, as needed. Last updated August 13, 2021 with EDC data submitted August 12, 2021.

    Back to Top of Table

    • Green status means the ship has no reports of cases of COVID-19 or COVID-19-like illness.
    • Orange status means the ship has reported cases of COVID-19 but is below the threshold for CDC investigation.
    • Yellow status means the ship has met the threshold for CDC investigation, which includes one of the following criteria:
      • at or above the investigation threshold for crew COVID-19 cases,
      • at or above the investigation threshold for passenger COVID-19 cases; or
      • state or local health department notified CDC of passenger COVID-19 cases occurring within 5 days of disembarkation.
    • Red status means the ship is at or above the threshold for passenger and crew COVID-19 cases. Based on CDC’s investigation, additional public health precautions, such as returning to port immediately or delaying the next voyage, will be taken to help ensure the health and safety of onboard travelers or newly arriving travelers.
    • Gray status means CDC has not reviewed or confirmed the cruise ship operator’s health and safety protocols. This status only applies to cruise ships arriving in, located within, or departing from a port in Florida that chose to not follow the CSO on a voluntary basis.

CDC will follow up with cruise ships when an investigation is required as ships begin to sail with passengers on simulated or restricted voyages under the CSO. For more details about the thresholds for investigation or red status, see Technical Instructions for Mitigation of COVID-19 Among Cruise Ship Crew.

A couple of lines in the FAQ's in NCL's Sail Safe policy, say that they will assist you with travel arrangements if you test positive ("travel" meaning transportation home/quarantine?):

"If you are denied boarding due to a positive COVID-19 test at embarkation, the cruise line will coordinate and cover costs for travel arrangements, for you and those traveling with you if they are also denied boarding."

"Guests who test positive for COVID-19 during their cruise and are required to quarantine will receive a pro-rated cash refund or a pro-rated Future Cruise Credit. If a guest followed all of the cruise line’s health and safety protocols, the cruise line will coordinate and cover the cost of necessary onboard COVID-19 related medical treatment, required land-based quarantine and travel arrangements to get the guest safely back to their home."

I guess NCL is going to handle this the right way for the guests as long as they confirm that the cruisers had followed all the rules before they arrived at the boat. Thank you for providing this information it was comforting to read! Thanks again!!!!

  5. Just curious about what happens if you test positive once you have flown to catch the ship even though you were negative tested at home a few days before? If confirmed positive, I guess you won't even be able to fly home until you quarantine for a week or two at some hotel that will accept a Covid positive person.

The point I am making is that despite being fully vaccinated, not being able to board the boat might not be the end of your problems on what to do next as a designated positive person even without symptoms.

I can't imagine walking into a hotel and staying I am Covid positive and looking for a place to stay for quarantine would be well received by the staff or other guests. 😞

Just too much craziness and the risk of getting stuck out of town and treated like a Leper for me to travel now. Hate to admit but I will have to wait.

  6. I am 69 and have been double vaccinated for a few months already with Madurna and was happy to read that Regent was going to expect 100% vaccinations.

I am not worried about getting sick. I just don't want to get hassled with repetitive Covid tests that are unreliable. A false positive could end a luxury cruise by being quarantined in a 3rd world country when not even sick. 😞 Perhaps even just trying to get on the ship with a false positive.

Even trips to Europe & Thailand are complicated even for fully vaccinated. Just doesn't seem worth it for now. But as one gets older if you don't get out and enjoy life now you might never get too. 🙂

  7. TWO passengers onboard the first fully-vaccinated cruise ship in North America have tested positive for coronavirus.

The passengers, who shared a room on the Celebrity Millennium, tested positive during the end-of-cruise testing which is completed three days before returning to the US.

In a statement released today, Celebrity said: "Two guests sharing a stateroom onboard Celebrity Millennium tested positive for Covid-19 while conducting the required end of cruise testing.

"The individuals are asymptomatic and currently in isolation and being monitored by our medical team.

"We are conducting contact tracing, expediting testing for all those close contacts, and closely monitoring the situation."

All passengers were required to show proof of vaccination along with a negative Covid-19 test within 72-hours before the ship departed.

The cruise departed the Caribbean island of St. Maarten on Saturday.

The Celebrity Millennium is now docked in Curaço with the passengers who tested positive remaining in isolation.

The ship will return to St. Maarten this Saturday to disembark.

The Celebrity Millennium became the first ship to sail with guests from North America in more than a year.

Just under 600 guests were welcomed onboard on Saturday.

  8. Mask,

In my broken German I think it means.:" Greetings! I traveled once to Switzerland.  Glacier Express was the best. Unfortunately I have forgotten much of my German. I was stationed in Germany in 70-72 and 74-77. I learned a little German there. German is a difficult language to learn but practice makes perfect. By the way, The Swiss are not really that Formal. 🙂

  9. Gruezti  Hambagahle, Ich bin einmal in der Schweiz gereist. Glacier Express war am besten! Leider have ich viel Deutch vergessen. 🙂

  10. Jackie,

Thank you so much for posting Daily Onboard Activities on your crossing! I am impressed by the many available options especially during a sea day that can keep most people busy unless they simply want to relax.

Like many others following this blog, your postings allow us to share in at least some small way the crossing with you and Dennis!

From Judy and I here in the cold Midwest we wish you both Thanksgiving greetings and safe travels home.

    Ken
