  1. We used Adventures in Alaska on our trip June 2015. I chose them since they offered more time on the water. I believe about 3.5 hours on the water. I enjoyed their tour.

It was a slow paced tour, giving us more time at each location to watch the whales.

I booked a longer tour thinking that more time on the water meant more stops to watch whales. Instead we spent more time at each location. The shorter tours saw as many whales as we did (maybe more), but just stayed at each location for less time. Actually, my daughter was on another tour at the same time as ours and was treated to a show by a baby whale as they returned to dock that we missed out on.

I say this in case you are thinking as I did that more time on the water means more whale sightings, but if you are looking for a slow paced tour that allows more time at each location then more time on the water would be a good choice.

  2. We did the Skagway tour last year, early June. It's an amazing experience. Being from AZ I expected to be very cold, but actually got a little warm on the tour so layering is great advice. The only thing I didn't like is being packed in the chopper like sardines. I was in the middle back with 3 others. Being in the middle made it difficult to see the sights, but I still would do it all over again. Bring some cash, they will take pics of you as you are riding...I think a picture was $30.

  3. We are taking our first cruise on the Star in June to Alaska. We booked early September and selected traditional dining. A few months after booking, I noticed that our dining choice showed wait list. As I keep watching, the wait list number gets higher. I spoke with a Princess agent and was told we were confirmed. What does the wait list number mean?

  4. We will also be cruising on Princess out of Whittier in June. We will arrive in Whittier by train, arriving just after noon. I was also considering a PWS tour, but was unsure if we would be able drop our luggage with Princess without checking in/boarding and making it to the tour in time. Can anyone tell me if there is enough time between arrival by train to drop off luggage and make it to the PWS tour?
