I am a huge Silversea fan.  But there is one area in which I think Crystal trumps Silversea, and it might be relevant for a TA.

The Silversea standard suites are larger than those on Crystal (and that might make a difference on a TA).  The Silversea ships are of course newer.  The dining choices on Dawn will be more plentiful than those on Crystal.  Every Silversea guest has a butler (and s/he can be very helpful). Etc.

But Crystal enrichment/entertainment is IMHO better than Silversea's.  This might be relevant on a TA with lots of sea days.  I am quite happy to fill my days chatting at the bar/pool, reading, watching a movie (from a huge inventory) in the suite, getting some exercise, playing trivia, perhaps even visiting the spa.  I rarely attend lectures anymore, so Silversea is just fine for me, even on TAs.  But some people want much more activity-- lectures, classes, etc.  And here Crystal  excels.  If you feel the need/desire for such programmed activity for the multiple sea days, you might opt for Crystal.  Otherwise, I would opt for Silversea.

We don't have much interest in lectures or classes. Like some music or a show at night and maybe some trivia during the day. Otherwise, relax with a cold drink and watch the world go by. Find just watching the sea so relaxing. Thanks again for all the great info. Very much appreciated.

    Hi, and welcome to SS!

Just to clarify, are you looking at Silver Wind, or Silver Dawn? You mention both names in your post but I'm guessing you mean the latter, as Silver Wind will be converted to an expedition ship soon, and will not sail again until after that conversion.

We have sailed on a bunch of the expedition ships and could tell you plenty, if you were considering an expedition. But since you're comparing with Crystal, I assume not?

Thank you , sorry my mistake. Getting mixed up with the names ! Yes it's a transatlantic cruise on the Silver Dawn.

  3. Hi everyone, I'm hoping that you might be able to help me please ?

We have only previously cruised in the Yacht Club with MSC but are keen to try a smaller, luxury line. Trying to decide between the Crystal Symphony or the Silver Wind. Have read lots of great things about both but the new ship and better cabin have the Silver Dawn as clear favourite.

Just have a couple of possible concerns which I hoped to clarify before booking.

Do the restaurant menus change during the cruise ? The cruise I'm looking at is 14 nights so would likely end up a bit bored should the menu remain the same for the duration. I have read loads of posts recently and I think one of them suggested the menus never change which would surprise me if true.

Is Silversea considered to be more or less formal than Crystal ? Do you have to wear a jacket to all restaurants even on informal nights ? Wouldn't be an issue if required for formal nights only but a suit and tie every night might just be a bit too much for me.

    Many thanks

    Glen

  4. Thanks again. I didn't think I would consider an Inside cabin either. However, the price differential makes it very tempting given that I think the Yacht Club will offer us plenty space etc. Had been looking at a Silverseas cruise. The small uncrowded ship really appealed. Was concerned that the entertainment options wouldn't be great. The Yacht Club gives us the chance to enjoy all the benefits of a small luxury cruise and also those of a mega size cruise ship. A win win situation I think.

  5. Thanks for taking the time to reply. Great suggestion about the Spa area. I think I read that Yacht Club guests have a private elevator to access this ? I presume guests in an Inside YC room will have the same access and benefits as those in a Deluxe YC suite ? Only difference being the room is slightly smaller with no balcony ?

  6. Hi everyone,

Just wondered if anyone has any experience of this room type or if it is new to the Seaside and Seaview ships ? . There is a massive increase in price between the Inside YC and Deluxe Yacht Club cabins, so just trying to decide if it is worth the additional cost. My wife and I have never cruised before and a balcony cabin does appeal but I presume there will be lots of space and seating options in the Yacht Club itself ? I've read great things about the Yacht Club experience with MSC and would love to try it especially on one of these new ships

One potential problem is that there doesn't appear to be many cabins with an accessible shower. Do people find the shower over the bath difficult to get in and out of ? My wife has MS which makes it difficult for her to get in and out of a bath.

    Many thanks

  7. Hi everyone, does anyone have any cabin recommendations for the Silver Whisper ? Any cabins to avoid ?

It will probably be a V1 Verandha that we book but am a little concerned that we might feel the movement in the water a bit more since most of these cabins appear to be at the front of the boat. Would we be better going for a mid ship cabin instead ?

Not really sure what to expect as this will be the first cruise for myself and my wife. Looking at a Caribbean itinerary leaving from Ft Lauderdale at the end of Oct 2018.

    Thanks.

  8. Could someone please post the link from the NCL website ? I've looked but couldn't find anything that made it ciear to me. New to cruising so it might just be my lack of experience. We have booked a suite in the Haven on Epic. Only booked a few days ago.and got all four promotions as part of the deal. Thanks.

  9. Hi everyone,

Thanks very much for all your replies. Lots of useful information.

Everyone seems to be going for the 2 bed suite option. Is this a better option than the accessible penthouse ? Is it potentially in a better location ? I believe this is the same size as the 2 bed suite ? There is little difference in the price of both.

    Thanks for your help,

  10. Hi,

I'm hoping that someone might be able to help me decide on which cabin would suit us best.

I'm looking to book a suite in the Haven area and have been looking at both the Haven Aft Penthouse and also the Haven Spa suites.

It will be the first time my wife and I have cruised so I'm not sure what to expect. We both have some mobility issues but walking the length of the ship isn't an issue. I think the view from the balcony on the Aft Penthouse would be amazing. However, I believe the shower is over the bath in this room type and it can be quite awkward to access / get out of ?

I think the Spa Suite has a separate shower but I'm concerned that there will be a lot of noise from the neighbouring spa area ? Also not sure how the balcony and view compare to the Aft Penthouse ?

The cabins that are currently available are as follows -

    Haven Penthouse - 13295, 13025, 11321

    Haven Spa Suite - 14133, 14145, 14147.

Do the two bedroom family suites in the Haven area have a separate shower ?

Any recommendations for which deck to choose ?

    Thanks in advance,

    Glen

  11. Hi everyone,

Thanks for all the replies !

I am definitely going to book Aqua Class. It's only about £40pp more than Concierge. My wife will love the Persian Garden etc and I'm sure Blu will be a great option to have.

Just a matter of picking the cabin. A cruise agent I spoke to recommended 1621 or 1624 both of these are next to one of the suites ( I think) and are close to the elevators. Would these be a good choice ? As I mentioned we would prefer a quiet room, with a balcony which gets the sun and has a great view (if that's possible !).

Redjetz - Yes, it's March 2016. Can you point me in the direction of the roll call please ?

Many thanks for all your help and advice.

  12. Hi,

I've considered a cruise a few times in the past but never quite got to the booking stage. However, our kids are getting older and it seems like the perfect time for my wife and I to give it a try.

I am looking to book the Ultimate Carribean Cruise on Celebrity Equinox leaving from Fort Lauderdale in March. I am debating whether to book a C2 Concierge Class or an A2 Aqua Class suite. The prices for both are very similar. I have no idea what the best cabin location would be and would really appreciate any advice ? Ideally, we would like a quiet cabin, balcony with an unobstructed view so we can sit, relax and watch the world go by. I read that the hump cabins have larger balconies, great views etc but would there be a lot of noise due to their proximity to the elevevators etc ?

    Any help greatly appreciated.

    Thank you.
