  1. You're doing what we did except we opted for 3 nights in Rome before our cruise. We flew out of Dallas on April 30th and landed in Rome at 8:00 AM on May 1st. There was a driver holding a sign with our name on it who took us to our hotel (Golden Tulip) in Rome. On May 4th NCL took a bunch of us from the hotel by bus to the ship. A representative from NCL was at the hotel the day before we left with instructions. Everything went smoothly.

LOL!  Whatever Boozin as I guess if believing in fairy tales keeps you happy then go for it!

Earlier you called the lawsuit frivolous and now you refer to it as a fairy tale. Have you read the lawsuit? I did, and it's compelling.
Maybe, instead of unproductive comments like "frivolous" and "fairy Tales" you could enlighten us all with something more substantive for your use of those terms?

On the other hand, saving that $3 on every cruise, could net you a paid-for-cruise on every 500th cruise. Tax and port charges extra, of course.

    Chuckle!

  5. Wow.......they fixed it 36 hrs later, but fixed! The frustrating part was....carnival refunded me $59.60 on April 24 and then sent me an email saying they were cancelling the cruise because I owed $59.60 on my deposit. Like WTH! And the $1100 credit from my daughter was no where to be found. I sent them a copy of the credit confirmation ...thankfully I had that!

Sent from my iPad using Forums

By "fixed it" do you mean you're back to going on the cruise or are you just getting your money refunded?

  6. Anyone aware of any actions or proposed actions taken by Carnival with regards to the recent travel warnings issued by the State Dept, Canadian officials and the British government concerning Jamaica? Some areas on the island have been declared to be in a state of emergency with troops deployed due to violence.

The State Department is urging travelers to use "extreme caution"; Canada says folks should "exercise a high degree of caution" and the British government is using the term "limit movements". (quotes from Fox News Jan 21 article). It appears to me the various government warnings are not specific to any particular area, and cover the Jamaican island as a whole, but I'm not entirely sure in that regard.

Couldn't find anything relating to this on Carnival's web site.

  7. I believe you are allowed to mention Insurance Companies among other companies such as tour operators. There is a whole forum about Travel Insurance here on CC and they name insurance companies all the time. What isn't allowed is the naming of Travel Agents and Personal Vacation Planners.

I stand corrected. I liked the Nationwide policy and opted for it.

  8. I'd like to offer an option that some might want to consider. My wife and I travel fairly frequently and found it cost effective to buy an annual travel policy. CC doesn't allow us to recommend commercial entities by name so let me simply suggest googling to find who offers annual policies and their coverage. Some CC members might find this a cost effective means of protecting themselves.

  9. It is entertaining though as people provide hyperlinks to push their agenda and the opposition will post theirs. It just goes round and round with no resolution and no changed minds.

Cruise Critic is all about opinions, suggestions, comments, recommendations, questions, experiences, etc., yes? So it shouldn't be eye opening that some subjects go on and on in this venue.

In fact, your final three paragraphs laid out your experience and opinion quite well, although without any substantiating links, to confirm the part of your post I quoted.

Don't take this as a criticism, it isn't. Your opinions are as valuable as anybody else's. Just an observation.

  10. Personally, Cruise Critic is the last place I'd seek information about using a passport close to its expiration date. What you end up getting is mostly anecdotal guidance, some of it good, some of it not so good. Carnival Cruise Lines (or airlines for that matter) do not make the rules on passport validity...the State Department is the source for that.

Start with this State Dept web page:

  11. Great suggestions..

I am in aft. baloney on the Pride in Jan..

Sounds like you have half the battle won with snacks if you have an aft BALONEY....snicker.

Seriously though, the Lido should have a good selection snack types of foods such as cheeses, meats, along with cherub tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers and ranch dressing from the salad bar, maybe rolls if they have them. A box or 2 of crackers and some tooth picks would do you fine. G'Luck.

  12. I was just checking out Nationwide, I like that it covers domestic and international travel but it looks like it just pays for delays and medical. It still wouldn't refund your money for your cruise that you missed would it? Or am I missing that part of the policy.

Sorry, been out of town. A very good question causing me to pull out the e-mail copy of my policy. I cut and pasted below the policy portion that may answer your question. It's a bit wordy so bear with it:

  14. Food for thought. My wife and I travel a number of times a year and found that an annual travel policy suited our needs the best.

I'm not here to sell any particular policy but for comparison sake you might begin by looking at the costs of a policy that Nationwide offers on an annual basis as opposed to buying single trip policies. If it makes sense in your particular case or with your traveling habits then you can expand your search for other insurance companies that offer annual plans.

  15. My son was born overseas when I was in the military. A record of live birth was created and kept at the US embassy of the host country and with the State Department. Although we didn't have diplomatic relations with Cuba in 1985, there still should be a record of a live birth overseas maintained by the State Department. The personnel folks were pretty good about getting births recorded.

This link might be a starting point for you:

    https://travel.state.gov/content/passports/en/abroad/events-and-records/birth/replace-or-amend-consular-report-of-birth-abroad.html

For Winddawn: Of course our kids born overseas are American citizens, to include the right to become President. What a disservice it would be if the children of soldiers, sailors and airmen serving our country abroad were denied that basic right of citizenship.
