  1. We were on the Encore last December over the holidays and we embarked and disembarked in Philipsburg and received a similar letter of warning prior to the cruise

This Island was devastated by the hurricane and was still in the early stages of rebuilding when we were there. The port had very few shops so would agree with the advice of others to enjoy the morning and lunch in your hotel before arriving to board the ship

It was a long walk from where you were dropped off at the port, pretty rough and ready but they did offer golf carts for those who needed help to get to the ship.

It was as bad as what Seabourn are saying and a real eye opener for us.

However, saying that we had a wonderful two weeks exploring the Caribbean islands on Seabourn and would do it all again if we didn’t have to embark or disembark in St Maarten

  2. We are also on this wonderful cruise from Dubai to Athens and yesterday we had our stop in Al’ Aqaba where we had arranged a private tour

    thru Viator

Due to our mobility problems we were very hesitant to plan a day that we were pretty sure we would have problems with. However, after googling accessable Petra this tour appeared on the Viator site.

We took a chance and booked it although we thought it was expensive. Better to go and not miss out.

We disembarked and the tour guide/ driver was there to greet us and we left straight away on the two hours drive to Petra with a two stops on the way, the first for gas and the second for photo opportunity and shopping, bathrooms etc

When we arrived in Petra we were driven to a gate where we met the driver of the Golf Buggy. We waited for our Tour guide and off we went.

It was wonderful. Both the driver and the Tour guide were friendly and knowledgeable and we spent about 1 1/2 hours driving thru the site. At the finish we were taken back to the gates and then taken to The Movenpick Hotel for lunch

During the drive back to the port, we had one stop so the driver could buy a coffee and have a cigarette.

It was worth every dollar to experience Petra and without this offering we would have never have managed it. Everything was taken care of including lunch, buggy and car ride to and from The ship

The only thing we would have preferred was that the car we had, was bigger. Our car was a small Kia which had problems coping with the airconditioning

All in all a great success

  3. Having sailed on Seabourn many times, previously on Odyssey and Soujourn we were looking forward to experiencing the newer larger ship

We have spent the past fourteen days sailing on Encore on two 7 day back to back cruises. Both very busy, as the ship was fully booked but it was typical Seabourn elegance. There were some children but all well behaved. The pool as usual, only standing room in the afternoon was fabulous during most of the day. We enjoyed the Colonnade and The Patio for both lunch and dinners. We love to sit on deck and enjoy al fresco dining. Never made it to the Dining room or Thomas Keller (always booked out)

We are now on the 10 day cruise from Barcelona to Monte Carlo.

Last night could not sit outside in the Colonade because a family group of 28 had taken it over and today in the pool on deck 9 counted over twenty teenagers in the pool, acting as kids act

I went down to Deck 5 to the plunge pool and there was a child in diapers in it with his parents...

Maybe because it is the first day of the cruise and maybe because it is Sunday in Valencia and everything is closed but I think the facilities on this larger ship seem to be inadequate for the number of guests, with the activities of the relatively small groups Impacting the usability of the facilities of the remaining guests.

Not optimistic about any change tomorrow as it is a day at sea

  4. Lunch at Le Splendido is one of our favourite experiences whenever we are in Portofino or Santa Margherita Ligure.

We find it easier to get to the hotel from Santa Margherita as the taxi rank is just to the right of where the tender dock is. There always seems to be taxis available there, while in Portofino it is virtually impossible to get a taxi, particularly just to go up to the hotel

The food and the views from The Terrace at the hotel are fabulous. It is not a cheap day out but very worthwhile.

The hotel will call a taxi for you when you have finished lunch

Don’t forget to phone or book the restaurant online for lunch. It is very popular

  5. Amusing responses but the facts remain. Time limit had not been reached so removal was not warranted and when challenged the said they would replace my property. However, they were too incompetent to even replace it on the correct lounge.

    Best wishes?

  6. i am onboard Seabourn Encore cruising from Barcelona. Today we were in Menorca and we decided to stay on board and enjoy the pool.

I found a lounge around 10.15 and was in and out of the pool until 1.15 when we decided to have lunch.

My husband found a table at the Grill and I went to the bathroom and returned to see my towels and bag had been removed from my lounge

Seabourn has a policy that if you are away from your deck chair more than 30 minutes you need to take your possessions from the chair, fair enough, but really.....not even 5 minutes !

I did approach the manager who apologised and offered to replace my property back on the lounge but unfortunately it was too late...someone had taken it

I realise that the cruise line has to have these policies but this is Seabourn not Costa or Princess that have thousands of guests!

So beware if you need to leave your lounge around the pool for any length of time

  7. We are Australians booked in a Penthouse cabin on the 8 day Ruby Princess cruise Mexican Riviera leaving San Pedro port on December 22.

We are not able to do self disembarkation so will rely on our suite status to request early departure and luggage pickup. The ship arrives at 7am into San Pedro.

We are planning to organise a limo service to LAX to catch a flight to Honolulu.

There is a flight at 11.30 am. We will be flying first class.

Are we leaving enough time to catch the flight?

    Many Thanks
