As is the case with the tours section of the O web, know that availability of culinary classes (like excursions) shown may be incorrect- particularly if you are on a multi-segment cruise. ALWAYS call O to confirm what’s available!!!

    I totally agree!

@Skyrose I am not sure if your classes are listed yet but if you’re looking in excursions you won’t find them.  On the website when you go to excursions there are other tabs (dining, hotels, etc.).  One of the tabs is called other options. Click on that as that’s where I found the classes for our sailing.

I do know that.  They just aren't showing up yet. I had called O and was told we would need to sign up on board.  That's why I wondered if  Daydreamer is on the same cruise and could see/do something I couldn't.   The website can be wonky at times.

No it's on Vista but I found more listed. I just hadn't scrolled along far enough.. All on port days though which is annoying

Thank you. Yes, that would be quite annoying!  I wonder why they did that.

I have a related question to this. On our upcoming June 1  cruise there is a culinary class listed but it's in a port day that I don't want to miss. Are other classes ever  added later . We do have just one sea day on this cruise and obviously that would be my(and most peoples I imagine) preference.

Is this the 6/1 cruise on Marina?  We're on that cruise, but I haven't seen the culinary classes show up yet...

  5. Thanks for the wonderful detail, nice! Was this on an O or an R ship? I'm asking because we're booked on the September 2019 Marina cruise, and a few of us on the roll call have been wondering if Marina will actually dock in the heart of Bordeaux. Thanks, Leslie.

Cruise Junky and Kaykearns, after your cruises, would you please come back to this board and let us know where you actually docked?

I'm on the September 2019 cruise that shows Bordeaux, not Verdon, as the port. I'm thinking of booking a cancelable hotel room in Bordeaux just in case we dock in Verdon.

    Thanks!

  7. I am sure I read in a previous thread recommendations for a Hotel in Barcelona, but I can’t seem to find it. I know this forum has many seasoned travelers that have stayed in Barcelona. Could anyone please give me your recommendations. I know I can count on you.
We've stayed at El Palace and liked it quite a bit. It's a bit removed from the tourist areas, which was fine with us.

In past threads I've seen lots of recommendations for the hotel 1898. Perhaps that's the one you were thinking of?

  8. Where does O dock in Boston? Is it within (short - like 10 minutes) walking distance to Bostonian Boston Hotel at 26 North St, next to Faneuil Hall?

Ships dock at the Black Falcon Cruise Terminal which is between the Seaport area and South Boston-- not the major tourist areas. The Bostonian Hotel is almost two miles away by foot.

Having lived in the Boston area for most of my life, I can tell you that Boston is an awesome town, but the traffic is wicked, so be prepared for delays whatever mode of local transportation you choose.

  9. We've gone for lunch and for dinner. We prefer the day-light view because it is easier to pick out various neighborhoods and buildings. Their web site states " We are sorry to inform you that we cannot guarantee a table by the window. - However, we do our best to accommodate this kind of request on a 'first booked, first served basis'." A couple of times we made our reservations online the first day they became available-- I believe that's 13 weeks ahead--and we requested a table by the windows. Both times we were seated at the same(!) table with an amazing view.

They do have a limited prix-fixe menu and no à la carte, but with advance notice, they will accommodate dietary restrictions.

Yes it's pricey, but the food and wine are good, the service is lovely and the whole experience is "magnifique"!

  10. Let me take a quick recap break and post some menus! This is the full Luminae wine list.

Chicago Paul, I've really enjoyed following along on your voyage learning what to expect on our first Celebrity voyage in August aboard Eclipse.

Thank you for posting the Luminae wine list; I suspect we'll have most of dinners there. We will have a premium beverage package with our sky suite. It looks like there are no French whites by the glass. Is that correct? Do you know if they would be willing to bring a glass or two on the premium package from a different venue?

I hope your re-entry to real life goes well. The first couple of weeks after a cruise can be brutal.

  11. Nolan joined the Marina in Athens, with us on 10/28. He’ll be there for awhile.

Cruises and their cruisers vary a lot. Some cruises we see far more people where the ship is the destination and they either rarely get off the ship and/or only for short periods of time. When putting together shore tours on a roll call i’ll get requirements that a tour can’t last more than 3 hours and they must be back for lunch aboard ship.

Others of us travel for the ports and the land destinations with different priorities and never see the ship on port days. Each to his own. Question is, since O is not preparing fresh food, to have a viable venue how many customers would they need? Can’t imagine they could provide quality service, on an intensive menu, if only 10-20 people were showing up for lunch in the GDR. Was it an issue of “use it or lose it” and over the years just not enough people were showing up to make it a viable option at today’s cost?

Nolan was on our Marina Barcelona to Athens cruise 10/16 - 10/28, and I thought he had already been on for a while.
