  1. We went in February this year and did the husky sledging and our driver told us quite often not enough snow until January in Alta so maybe p&o wait to see the conditions before offering trip? Did the northern lights trip and thought it was a lot of money for what we did, just went to a football field 10 mins from ship, we went on the 9.30pm trip and were lucky as saw the lights just after midnight as the sky cleared, people on earlier coaches had already left. The second night we had a fantastic view nearly all evening from the ship! Also in Alta people caught the bus to the museum from the tourist info place and walked down to a little beach and got beautiful photos of the lights!

  2. Thank you for posting this very interesting review, as we are doing this trip on Aurora next year.

I didn't get a very clear idea of the extent of what you actually saw re the Northern Lights themselves, either during the off ship tour or from the ship itself. Can you expand?

Also, my wife uses a wheelchair and we are fearful that she may not be able to do any of the night time tours, so were wondering if much can be seen from the ship?

Final question, is there any chance of seeing the Northern Lights when at sea or is there too much light pollution from the ship? We do have a balcony so if there are any announcements we can be outside very quickly!

    Thanks

We had a magnificent view of the lights from the ship on the second night we were in Alta, several times the captain announced them during the evening between 6pm and 1am, also seen on the next sea day several times during the evening, fantastic to see but harder to photograph as ship moving!

The first nights tour in Alta was cloudy until 12.45am so lights only seen after that from the tour so many missed them as had returned to ship, second nights tour had a good view!

They were also seen on the night from Tromso to Alta but not announced and not for long!

Personally I wouldn't bother with a ships tour again as they were seen from ship so well but it's all down to luck on the day! People did see from balcony but the best views were from open decks as more panoramic view, sorry can't help with wheelchairs on trips.

  3. I was on the repositioning cruise from Singapore to Sydney and we had a great time! There was a problem with tendering in Port Douglas but that was the fault of the port authorities the captain did apologise several times! We got up and got tender tickets early and where off on the first tender each time no problem! The food and service was great, entertainment not so good but it was based more towards the Australian guests so we did not get some of the jokes! (I'm English)

We got sun beds every day no problem, the drinks package was good, I would go on Voyager again if the itinerary suited me, don't worry you will have a great time!

There was a lot of new staff on this cruise as well so only to be expected there was a few niggles with some people but go with an open mind relax and enjoy x

  4. My Time Dining? A complete shambles on our recent RCI cruise.

We booked MTD 18 months ago for Voyager's recent Singapore to Sydney repositioner ... and reconfirmed about three months before departure. Everything's fine, we were assured.

But it failed to eventuate after boarding ... unless we agreed to have dinner in the late evening (it would have been completed just before bedtime) or at 5.30 in the afternoon.

To compensate, we were allowed to enter the main dining room's first sitting up to 45 minutes late each evening ... with the accompanying frowns and stares of disapproval from other diners.

    A very unpleasant experience!

Our other complaint involved tendering at three ports, where waiting time stretched for up to four-and-a-half hours.

There was almost a mutiny on board as hundreds of angry cruisers protested.

Our complaints were met, in my opinion, with utter contempt ... with the captain refusing to speak to guests when approached.

Shame on you Royal Caribbean.:mad::mad:

How strange I was on this cruise as well and never had a problem with my time dining and we never had a table booked?

Also saw no mutiny there was a small problem the first tender port of Port Douglas getting back to the ship in a queue but this was explained over the tannoy by the captain, the other two days never saw a problem, we got up and collected tickets and where on the first tender each day? I did witness a gentleman being quite rude to the captain at his captains corner talk, where the captain apologised again and explained the problems they had encountered but this gentlemen would not let up the moaning! The captain seemed a very nice man and very approachable. The rest of the audience at the captains talk actually groaned when this gentleman kept on about the tenders and asked him to get over it, after all I knew from when I booked in March that we would tender at three ports.

  5. If you paid NCL uk in GBP then what are they doing offering you dollars anyway, each country should be offered compensation in the currency they paid in and within each countries trading standard laws shouldn't they? As this is all NCL's fault why should the airline, the insurance company and you lose out, it is so unfair. NCL must realise people book their flights straight away and should compensate them for any loses.

Would you be able to use your original flights and then a connection to your port might be cheaper?

  6. If the holiday was booked in the uk as a package( flight and cruise together) then you should contact trading standards or citizens advice as the package you booked is no longer available and you should get a full refund of all costs. If you booked the flights direct with airline and the cruise separately you have no rights if one part is cancelled.

However I feel that NCL are being very unfair and should really pay for your loss in full. I do hope you all get sorted and NCL step up and help you.

  7. Have read the interesting and helpful comments on the NCL South American cruise. My main concern about the cruise is getting to the ship, Norwegian Sun in time. Infinity Cruises arranged a flight for us on 27 February to arrive in Buenos Aires airport at 14.15hrs and the ship embarks at 18.00hrs. (Boarding up to 1600hrs but up to 1700hrs if all travel docs completed). Not impressed with Infinity Cruises but now intend to pre-book taxi (at a grossly inflated cost) through them to ensure as little delay as possible. Any helpful comments would be appreciated! Otherwise - Keep your fingers crossed.

That is worrying for you, we are on the same cruise but fly in on Thursday evening, hope everything goes smoothly and fingers crossed!

  8. Hi, can anyone tell me what currency is the best to take on the Sun's South American cruise calling at Argentina, Uruguay and Chile please? I am from England, is it best to take USD or withdraw from atm's local currency? Also are credit cards accepted many places, thanks for any help!

  9. Hello, Looking at my NCL account it says I can book my dinning now and it includes the complimentary restaurants, question is do I have to book them or can I just turn up on each night? I know you have to usually book the speciality restaurants but never had the option on my cruises to book the included restaurants.

    Thanks!
