The news marks the second time that Carnival has made headlines for a big policy change in recent months. Earlier this year, the Florida-based line announced that room service would no longer be complimentary on all ships in its fleet.

Just to clarify so some people aren't confused, Carnival walked back that change to room service a couple days after the initial announcement.

The only way I would think it might matter is if you book a non-refundable fare and then have to cancel.  For example, with Early Saver if you cancel, you forfeit $50 per person, and the remainder of the deposit is held as a future cruise credit for that person.  But I don't know if it's held in the person's name who was on the booking, or the person who paid the deposit.  That would be something you would want to ask, because if they are giving you the money, you potentially might have to give it back to them if they cancel and the credit is in your name.  Which means you would be stuck with even more money held as credit than just your own.  Again, I am not sure as I have never been involved in this situation.

Does Early Saver follow Carnival’s standard deposit, payment and cancellation terms?

    • The deposit and payment terms are the same. Guests who cancel prior to the final payment date will receive a future cruise credit in the amount of the deposit received less a $50 USD service fee per person.
    • Future cruise credits are issued in the name of the original payee, regardless of whether they were ever booked in the cancelled reservation. For bookings paid with a travel agency credit card or check, the cruise credit will then be issued in the name of the cancelled guest.

So if I wanted to try to book something the very second that bookings become available, should I be refreshing the Carnival website at midnight Tuesday night/Wednesday morning, or 7am, or noon?  And under which timezone for that "time"?  US EasternTime, because that's where Miami (HQ) is?

I wanna feel like I'm trying to get tickets to my favorite band on Ticketmaster.  And hopefully they aren't already gone during the AMEX presale or swept up by some scalper-bot...

Knowing me though, I'll get distracted Tuesday night, forget about it Wednesday morning, and suddenly be reminded when all the threads start popping up here.

Calling in is usually the most effective way, especially if you have a PVP. I don't recall them ever releasing them at midnight, its usually around 9-10 am EST. Hopefully, the official deckplans will be released today or tomorrow.

Ports: The Ports were all interesting but it would have been nice to know that we were going to have to pay for a bus/shuttle service in 2 of the Ports, this should have been communicated earlier so that passengers had a choice to sign up for an excursion since you are paying for a ride into the city anyway.

    Happy to answer any questions

Which ports did you have to pay for a shuttle/bus?

  5. Are you positive because Carnival Cruise Lines(US) and Carnival Cruise Line (AU) are 2 independent lines own by Carnival Corporation. They also own Costa, Princess Cruises, Holland America, Cunard, P&O Cruises, Seabourn, Aida and Fathom.

I don't think any of Carnival Corporation cruise lines link their rewards programs. I may be wrong but I don't think I am. If you find out for sure please let me know.

In order to earn VIFP Points for Cruises that begin and end in Australia (each an “Australian Cruise”), Members must log into their Account and request that VIFP Points be awarded for Days earned on such Australian Cruise(s). Members must review their cruise history and submit a request by clicking on “Missing a Cruise?” and provide the requested information. CCL will not automatically award VIFP Points for any Australian Cruise.

Carnival Cruise Line: The line has stopped placing plastic straws in glasses when drinks are ordered.

"We will no longer automatically serve any soda or cocktail (except frozen) with a plastic straw," Carnival's brand ambassador John Heald said on his Facebook page in April. "They will be provided by request. If you want one, please ask. Please support our efforts to limit the amount of plastic that can be found in the seas today."

  7. Someone else asked me if it looks like you can transfer the booking to another date. I said Im guessing no, but told her I would post the question here, what do you all think after reading the terms?

    • What if I need to make changes to my ship or sailing date?

Ship and sailing date changes are allowed prior to the final payment due date, subject to a $50 service fee per person, per change. Changes made after the final payment due date are subject to standard cancellation penalties.

kinda like deja vu, you were actually the very first person to ask that question on the first early saver thread on CC back in 2009. The policy never changed

  8. I booked early saver on Sunrise for October, 2019 7 day. I want to switch to Sunrise 14 day May, 2019. I booked directly with CCL. Don't have a TA or a PVP. ???
You just have to pay a $50 fee and if you rebook at the same time they will just transfer your the remaining deposit over to the cruise you want to book.

I've done it several times if I found a better rate on a different ship.

Your deposit will be higher,so you will have to pay the difference at the time you do the switch,so they have to total amount of your deposit for the new cruise.

  9. I fully understand that my comment was to eliminate all reference to the DSC and just add the cost to the fare
Cruise lines, well for that matter, companies in general, want to advertise the lowest price possible.

Until all cruise lines decide to come together and do it,doubt you will see any single cruise line take that step.

  10. We pay a fee to a third party, and it takes days. Maybe ours are more comprehensive and can be used for legal purposes and we get state and country info, maybe that is what takes so long. And yes maybe they have access to Federal data bases too.
    http://www.canadaduientrylaw.com/how-does-canada-know.php

Many Americans interested in entering Canada with a DUI or DWI wonder how the Canadian border knows if a visitor has a criminal record. Canada's front-line border agents now have access to more information than ever to help identify potential security risks when screening visitors. As of Nov 23, 2015, Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) agents have full access to the FBI criminal database at their primary checkpoints, which allows them to*detect when a visitor has a warrant or a criminal conviction. United States criminal records are visible to border officers through the Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC). Operated by the RCMP, the CPIC central police database is interfaced with the United States National Crime Information Center (NCIC), which is the FBI CJIS database interlinked with all federal, tribal, state, and local agencies in the US

  11. Still waiting for the e-gift cards, which haven't seen for a while. Find them to be easy to get and there's no concern that way with mail/UPS. Our cruise is getting closer, so may have to go with the hard guys.

    No longer an option

This is the actual message on the AARP Forum dated 8/16/18:

"The Rewards for Good catalog is no longer able to offer Carnival Cruise eGift Cards. The program will continue to offer the physical gift cards. If you are planning a cruise please allow ample time for the physical gift cards to be delivered via mail. Gift cards can take up to 10 business days to be delivered. We apologize for any inconvenience."

  12. Boarding should be in the morning like San Juan, even if they have a 10pm departure, you still can board at 11:30

The ship doesn't have to leave port and can start boarding right after the last person is off the ship. In this case the ship has to be emptied and then moved. Doubtful even wedding parties will be onboard anytime before 1-2pm

  13. Ahhh okay I see what you're saying that makes sense. I'll be on the May 5th sailing so yes you're correct. Just wondering what time they will actually allow us to start boarding the ship in this case. Thanks for your reply!

It will just depend on how fast they can get all the passengers off the ship that morning in FLL, then transit the short distance to MIA.
