  1. If i use a debit card and also put down cash up front. Will that stop the issue of many holds?

It could. Carnival uses on-board credits and cash, gift cards, etc. applied to the account first, so that would eliminate debit/credit cards holds until those funds are exhausted.

  2. questions re. the self disembarking....

    1. If we choose to do this, when do we make this decision (before the cruise, when we board or during the cruise) and how or to whom to we make this decision known

    2. if we do self disembarking, do we keep our luggage right with us in the cabin instead of needing to have it out in the hallway the night before?

    3. What is the procedure for self DE.. do you still wait in a general area until they let you off the ship, or do you wait in your cabin?

    4. are the self DE one of the first ones off the ship, are is there no set time, just go off when you want?

    5. how does self DE differ once you are off the ship, do you just get right in line for customs instead of going to find your luggage first? I assume this saves quite a bit of time if that is the case?

    6. any disadvantages other than having to hall your luggage off the ship?

    7. Any other advantages?

    thanks!

    1. By the evening prior to debarking (#2), and you do not have to let anyone know.

    2. Yes, you keep all your luggage with you. Do not leave anything outside your cabin.

    3. Depends. Usually self-debark takes place before you have to be out of your cabin, but after that, you can wait anywhere on the ship. There are no designated areas.

    4. Self-debark begins right after self-debark for Platinum/Diamond/FTTF and those returning to the ship on B2B. Self-debark is called for each deck with cabins. Once your deck is called and you are self-debarking, you can leave anytime after that.

    5. Depends on the port. For example, in Baltimore, you go through Customs and then get your luggage. If self-debarking, you would carry your luggage through customs and then exit.

    6. Do not do it if you can not reasonably carry off your own luggage without difficulty or holding up the debarkation process.

    7. One of the first groups off the ship. Usually less of a line at customs. Early start to home or the airport if you have an early departure.

  3. You should be able to view the Saturday and/or Sunday games that air on NBC. Other than that, you will not find any of the games. If not on NBC, games are televised on regional networks (Comcast Sportsnet, Fox Regional, etc.) and those networks are not available on the ship.

  4. Nothing official from Carnival, but the rumor is (and I believe John Heald semi-confirmed on his blog) sometime in mid-to-late 2016 to allow for the completion of the current booking schedule so that no cruises already scheduled would have to be cancelled.

Valor was scheduled for drydock and 2.0 upgrades in 2014 but it was cancelled earlier in the year. Although no official reason was announced, it is believed it was due to the lack of necessity for the 2.0 upgrades due to the port-intensive itinerary the ship was sailing. Then of course, a few months later, it was announced Carnival was swapping the Liberty and Valor and the Valor would go to Florida.

  5. Looked back through the threads and can't seem to find a thread for this; however I am sure there is one if I go back far enough.

Does Carnival still sell buckets of beer(4 or 5)? How much? I was looking at pre-purchasing some alcohol and just wondered if it was cheaper or the same price on board. 4 packs of beer from the Fun Shops online sell for $22 to $25 depending on brand.

Yes, 4 beers. You pay regular menu price and receive a $2.00 discount ($0.50 per beer). If I remember correctly, it costs about the same between purchasing through The Fun Shops and purchasing on-board.

    Bar Menu Price X 4 Beers - $2.00 Bucket Discount + 15% Gratuity

  6. To the best of my knowledge, Delaware has REAL ID compliant drivers licenses, which are not EDL's. EDL's are only issued by the 5 states listed in the previous post.

This is correct. Delaware licenses are not enhanced.

People easily confuse the Enhanced Drivers Licenses with States complying with the REAL ID Act.

  7. I placed two orders within the past month and did not receive a confirmation email. According to the representative I spoke to on the phone, if you placed an order online within the past few weeks, you did not receive an email due to some glitch with the system. Not sure if the issue has been resolved, but print the confirmation screen for backup just incase.

The Fun Shops online/telephone purchases will never appear in your cruise documents. They do not want to ruin any surprises.

  8. We are now looking for it for our January 2016 cruise. They haven't released excursions yet, but the 1 year mark is just around the corner and I am assuming it won't be long now, so I have started a routine of checking for price drops, then checking for FTTF. I know it's early but I would really like to snag FTTF!

If past history is any indicator, it will not be posted until April/May 2015. Generally Carnival begins posting FTTF/excursions in April/May for the next year cruises.
