  1. Wow, I thought I was the only one and actually asked my co-worker if I was becoming colorblind. Luggage Tag said Lime and it printed out bright yellow. Even looks yellow when it shows up on the browser. I finally got it to look like Lime by changing the printer settings to print as Graphics instead of Photo.

Then my OCD kicked in when I realized I needed to print my name, address, phone, so I exported the graphic of the tag, edited it using a photo editor to add my info and the cabin info since the exported luggage tag does not show cabin info as it is a dynamic field.

Then OCD #3 kicked in again and I realize how flimsy the luggage tag was, so I used packing tape to laminate the sucker so it's pretty much bulletproof.

Then OCD #4 kicked in and did the same thing for DD/DM's luggage tags.

To solve #3, we bought a set of cruise luggage tag holders. We've used the tape trick before, but I'm allergic to adhesives, and ended up with a rash for the first cruise because of it. Put two on though, just incase one falls off.

  2. I'll be visiting Tortola for the first time in a couple of weeks. I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for something near to the pier to do. Maybe a little shopping? Is it anything like Nassau where everything is pretty much right there? I don't want to book an excursion through my cruise line (they only have a few and none of them are in my budget or are something I want to do.) I'm really low key. Local museums and culture are more my speed.

    Thanks!

  3. I've only been on NCL, so I can't say how it compares to another line. But, I was on the Gem last year for my sister's birthday cruise. We liked it, but there were a few things that could have been better. The pool area is laid out weird. If you're a pool person, I suggest getting there around breakfast time to get chairs together. Also, if you like doing the Cruise Director Staff activities, you will be left high and dry during Bingo for something to do. They use the whole staff for it.

  4. I was also on the ship, deck 14 with a Port facing balcony. We saw the whole thing unfold from our stateroom. Apparently, because they didn't know where these people came from, no life boats were launched. Rather, we used thrusters to stay in place and let them drift close. The "raft" looked like it was made of barrels and 2x4's. They had children on board as well. My heart breaks for them to be so desperate to try and flea that way.

  5. I was just looking at my cruise details, and under amenity details I'm listed as having the Adult beverage package. Our TA said this was the same as the Ultimate Beverage package (drinks under $11, no coffee, beer buckets, bottled water, or anything in the mini-bar) but I just wanted to make sure I wasn't going to have any unpleasant surprises waiting for me.

  6. On our last cruise on the Gem we took Amtrack from Boston to Penn Station. Our train got to South Station late, and we had a few delays along the way. We were about 45 late getting into Penn Station. We got in at about 3 am, and we had about six and a half hours to kill before we needed to be at the pier, so we got a hotel room and crashed.

Honestly, I recommend Greyhound over Amrtack. It takes the same amount of time, but there are more busses each day than there are trains, and it saves you money.

  7. My cruise on the Dawn last October was rerouted from a Bermuda cruise to a Bahamas cruise due to Hurricane Gonzolo. This is the risk you have of cruising in hurricane season. NCL does try to put you on a similar cruise. The same week of our cruise, a RCL cruise from Baltimore was rerouted to a Canada New England cruise. While I love New England (I live here) it is not the same as Bermuda. If I were you, I'd look at other ports in the area, maybe Eastern Caribbean.

Edited to add: I'd look at shore excursions on the Eastern Caribbean ports... Not just the ports. That was what our TA said when the hurricane aimed for Bermuda.

  8. Anyone who dances in the rain is my kind of cruiser...anyone who dances with the celebrities (stars) on a Norwegian cruise ship is my kind of hero. I wish I had the courage to put my name in the hat some day! I am loving your review and your pictures too. Looking forward to more!

We didn't expect her name to be picked. The bucket with women's names was over flowing, and there were about five guys who put their names in. She got her wine just as her name was called.

  9. On my upcoming cruise we'll be making port in two locations that make the use of a tender rather than a dock. GSC, we've been to before, and we love so there will be no surprises there. Our TA told us we'll have to tender at Grand Cayman as well. What kind of tenders do they use there?

The reason why I'm asking if it's a shore supplied tender or a ship supplied tender is to prepare my father for the trip. He has mobility issues, and we'll be making use of a wheel chair for most of the cruise for him.
