  1. I apologise in advance if this question has had the steam beat out of it already.....,does anyone know where people are getting RAT done to cross back into BC via the Peach Arch Bridge north or Seattle. My brother and his family will be returning from a cruise and will be driving from Seattle to Vancouver and hoping to get the family tested just prior to crossing back into British Columbia........

I don't know if it could help, but a Canadian Insurance company offers a Covid insurance program which would cover, in case of a positive test prior to return home, up to $200 per person ($400 per couple) for hotel and incidentals, for a period of 14 days and up to $500 to cover the change of flight cost. This insurance would have cost my wife and I, $192 CDN in total.  So, if the unplanned extended time period away is not a factor, that insurance could help your family travel with peace of mind.

Thank you for the suggestion. Unfortunately for them  it's not so much as the cost of staying as it is the problem of being away an additional 11 days,  which I completely understand.  I have purchased the insurance you mentioned, just in case. So i feel well covered! I'll be traveling solo this time, my husband is unable to join me. If I  have to stay to quarantine it's not really a problem, as it's just me. Except maybe alittle boredom though!  lol.

  3. This is the one barrier that is holding the my brother and his family in limbo from our cruise which sets sail on 19th March from the Port of LA. Their concern is having to remain in LA post cruise if they test positive. Fortunately they purchased Princess Vacation protection, so if they do cancel within the next few days, they will get a FCC. They are holding on as long as possible, just in case this mandate is announced it will change before 26th March, which would be when we are scheduled to return to port of LA after 7 days in Mexico. I'm not feeling too hopeful right now. So bummed.

I am so glad for this update! I have had 2 vaccines and 1 booster so now my Antigen test taken on Wednesday (prior to my Thursday flight to the USA) will carry me through to embarkation on Saturday! One less expense to not have to have a second Antigen test. Thank you Princess.

We will be on Norwegian Escape. They do offer it, but was hoping to find a cheaper option.

I had forgotten Norwegian charges for the test now. Might still be worth having it done by NCL for peace of mind. Apparently some of the pharmacies offer it for free, but I don't know much about them. Not much help am I? Lol

  6. I have a RAT test booked at Pearson Airport in Toronto @ 5am before my 8:15am flight to LA. I know it may be tight, so I have plan B and C just in case. I will have had a rapid antigen test the day before my flight anyways, so i will still be good to fly to the US if I there is a delay/problem at YYZ testing location.

My reason for booking the YYZ test was to meet the pre cruise requirement (48 hour window) since I am flying down 3 days before the cruise departs, so I had no choice but to have 2 antigen tests if i want to go 3 days earlier. I didn't want to put all my eggs in one basket with YYZ test only-just in case.  If all else fails I have 2 Switch health tests with me and I know I can book a test at LAX upon arrival if all else fails.

  7. Sounds amazing! I was considering booking the California coast when I booked the Mexico cruise, we chose Mexico this time as my family will be flying down from Vancouver and had yet been to Mexico. So the pacific coast will be next on the list! Enjoy your trip!!

  8. I'm from southern Ontario and leaving for a cruise in 2 weeks to Mexico from LA. I'm so excited and have planned 3 excursions through Princess. I'm so looking forward to some much needed R&R. 3rd time on Princess and so glad to be back at it! I'm also going to do a couple of tours in LA pre and post cruise!

  9. Probably a silly question....

I read that the Manulife Covid trip interruption insurance will cover for quarantine expenses, but if i test positive at the end of my cruise and have to remain states side for 11 additional days, will the insurance automatically be extended to cover the 11 days beyond my original return date for the quarantine?  Or do i have to include the 11 days in my return date on the initial application just in case i have to stay?

If I book test at pearson....(my flight leaves at 8:30 am)...so book test for 5 am....to be at the airport by 5 am (park car and shuttle to where the test is)...hmmm I guess I should to the night before and park myself at the airport....My daughter just went to Florida and she said they were at the airport 3 hours before flight and BARELY made the plane...the lineups at customs etc....CRAZY...she said for me to be there earlier than that...but to have a cover test also in that timeframe....ya...NOT

I'm hoping that security might not be as crazy busy on a Thursday am when I fly out ( in comparison  to a weekend, but maybe wishful thinking).  My test is booked for 5am and flight is schefuled or 8:15am. Yikes.

My local Costco has just started to offer rapid antigen tests for travellers and I'm wondering if anyone has used them for flying and cruising yet?  They're less costly than other alternatives but, I'm wondering if they are as readily accepted by the cruiselines ?  Anyone tried....?  Thanks

I was wondering the same thing......Thanks for posting!

  12. Oh my gosh, thank you for that heads up! I am booked for a test with SDM on 17 March and then fly out that night, so i will definitely book another test just in case! Also just an FYI, i do see that Pearson Airport has on site testing available as well same price roughly, so that might be a good back up (depending on what airport you are flying from). You do have to book in advance, and there is a $10 fee if you cancel/refund. But just a thought.

Probably a very silly question but will ask it anyway

Need rapid Antigen test to cross border but PCR test to board ship. One is 1 day previous and other 3 days previous.

If you could get a PCR test 1 day ahead, would the border crossing accept it instead of the Antigen test or would you need to get 2 tests?

Not a silly question, so many hoops to jump through! If the cruise line requires a PCR test, you can use the PCR test for both the border and to board the ship, as long as both the border and ship timelines are met. The border needs the test to be within 1 day/or 24 hours. I' m guessing 3 days for the ship?  Problem is PCR usually take at least 1-2 days, unless you arrange a rapid PCR, but they are costly.

I was looking to book the flights to FLL or MIA for our Nov. cruise and noticed that for either route one of the flights is on a 737 Max 8. Wondering how people feel about flying on a Max 8. I've done a ton of flying especially in my last job so the logical side of me says it's no big deal but then the irrational side thinks of the stigma.

I still get squeamish thinking about flying on one, but like you, the logical side tells me there is absolutely nothing to worry about, and that they are as safe as any jet. I'm also a nervous flyer so its no surprise that I would worry, no matter what plane I am on.
