  1. It's my actual cell plan, using whatever towers....I wonder if my kids connect through my phone as a hotspot that they can use wifi calling?????
If they have internet calling. You should also be able to use internet calling if your phone is set to use it. Then only have to have internet plan on board.

  2. I'm going on my first cruise in 11 years in July, on Adventure of the Seas with my family, can't tell you how excited and OBSESSED I am!!!

I'm in a sales job, and the phone to me is as crucial to my career as air is to breathing! Was having a panic attack as how much it was going to cost me to connect to my customers via cell and my laptop to put orders in..Reading on the Voom internet, I'm thinking to pay for the week of it, giving my customers a Google phone number to call my laptop, enter my orders, put them in, etc....Between the cruise fare, and the Ultimate Drink Package, I've paid ENOUGH! :)

My itinerary is Sunday in Florida, Monday Coco Cay, Tuesday Nassau. I called up Verizon to weigh my options.

Verizon tells me that its $2.99/min for voice, $.50 per outgoing, $.05 for incoming texts, $.25 for MMS...

I said what's the option for when I'm in port in the Bahamas?? They said $10/day to use MY plan! So, paying $20 for Monday and Tuesday, and being able to use my cell as a hotspot for my laptop to connect to, and also my wife and kids to connect to for a little while is a TREMENDOUS option for me! I do most of my business in those two days anyway, so its a LOT better than spending the $112 (ON SALE) for the week!

Makes me feel a lot better about not being in touch! Besides, we're leaving our (will be) 1 year old puppy with a dog sitter for the first time, and NEED to know how our little pooch is doing!!!!

    Can u call using internet?

  3. Just to do closure, I pulled the trigger for the 8/11/19 Mighty Mississippi. Cabin 516. I took advantage of the $1200 discount and added the all-inclusive beverage package ($699 for the cabin, which at $22 pp, pd, seemed worthwhile). I booked directly with AQSC.

Now, to calm down and endure the 17 month wait. Fortunately I have some good trips in between to distract me.

Thanks again for those who shared their knowledge and experiences.

    It's worth the wait.

  4. Some clarification, please. We traveled on the American Queen many years ago when she was new. I seem to remember having doors that opened to a common deck and also that when walking out the door to the hallway, it was not all covered/enclosed. We were in Cabin 419. Could someone tell me if this is the case? Or am I not remembering correctly.

    Thanks,

    Mary Lou

You are correct. The cabin opens to the outside deck. It has an overhang above from deck 5. We were on deck 5 last Christmas and our cabin opened to the outside. You can check our deck layout on their website. We had aa great time and are booked on the new Empress Thanksgiving.

  5. Hello,

18 days ago I had surgery- a 2 level anterior cervical discectomy and fusion...which means I have titanium screws in my ceverical spine but they also had to do two level fusion which means I have PEEK (polyetheretherketone) cages for the allograft implants that were done.

The hospital did give me an allograft implant record/paper with the device number but my question, will I have a problem going through security with these implants, does anybody know?

I have had open heart surgery so I have wires tieing my sternum back together. I have been on quite a few cruises since and never have an issue. If they do want me for whatever, it will read the wires. They usually know what it is due to the location. Have a good time.

  6. Many thanks to both of you. Right after posting I looked at the picture again and, sure enough, the decks are mostly covered. I was just so excited to be upgraded from an inside room I wasn't thinking straight. LOL!

    Thanks again.

I don't believe you will disappointed. The walk is usually very short and not that much of a problem. I would book the same cabin in a heart beat.

  7. Hi, everyone:

I've tried to search for the answer, but cannot find it. We are going on the AQ March 4. We just got upgraded from an inside room to Cat C 436 cabin. We realize the verandah is part of the public deck. It seems the only entrance into the room is from the outside deck. Is the deck covered? I think it might be. We're really looking forward to this river cruise. We've sailed 30 ocean cruises and one river cruise in Europe.

I appreciate any feedback on this room. It's probably very small, but at least we could get some air.

    Many thanks,

    Jennie

There is some overhang, but you can still get a little wet. We did.

  8. We've sailed on Anthem in a balcony room several times, but for our next cruise we have reserved a Junior spa suite. My understanding is that we may dine in the Coastal Kitchen .... dinner only. My question: Do we make reservations for that ahead of time? or must we wait until we are onboard? Do we have to worry about it being 'full'? I don't see an option for Coastal Kitchen reservations in the cruise planner ........ ?

    thank you for your help!

We sailed Anthem in 2015 and were also in a Jr Suite. We really liked the coastal kitchen and ate many evening meals there. The ship was new so people didn't know much about the venues. I would say you are better off to make your reservations early.

  9. Having formal on the first night is anything but normal.
Well when the first is New Years Eve. What did you expect. Many would be disappointed if there wasn't New Years eve festivities. And one always dresses up for New Years. But as it has become, you may do what ever you want. So go and have a good time what ever path you choose. Happy New Year.

  10. I am leaving on the Allure of the sea’s on Sunday. It will be interesting to see how everything goes down for New Year’s eve. Typically there is hype for days from the cruise staff about New Year’s eve activities. There won’t be that opportunity on the sailing. I received an email three days ago telling me that the first night will be a formal night and to bring appropriate clothes with me on board. I thought it was odd to find out so late about the first night being formal night. I’m sure a lot of people won’t read that or pay attention to it. I expect a lot of people in the dining room for the early seating to have shorts on. :)
That is normal. But no shorts in Main dining room at night. There will always be those that dress up and those that don't. Do what ever you want and have a good time and enjoy the scenery.

  11. I've never seen any gentleman with a tux during any of the ten trips that I have made on the AMERICAN QUEEN or AMERICAN EMPRESS. Three years ago while on the AQ during Christmas not every male passenger was even wearing a jacket to dinner.
You are correct. I was as close as you can get as my velvet jacket is tux cut. The older gentlemen Wear either suits or sports coats. Most wear reg ties. I wear bow ties. In Europe the Europeans and British tend to wear tuxes as they dad two summers ago. Great time had by all. Happy New Year.

  12. You will see a few people not dolled up, but you might rent a tux or at least purchase a colored dress shirt with matching tie. The lady can wear anything classy from slacks with a festive top to a nice dress. Merry Christmas.

For Christmas Eve it was lots of pretty tops and slacks. Lots of pretty dresses. For the men lots of suits. Sports coats, fancy ties. And a few dressed nicely. But there was one guy that had a black velvet coat with a black shirt and trousers. To finish the look he had a white bow tie with white handkerchief and white boutineer. His lady in a cure tiered black dress with patterned hose. Very dashing. I wonder who this Don Juan was. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

  13. We're taking our first American river cruise NOLA to NOLA next week.

Understand that dress is resort casual. Wife asking how dressy is it in general, and particularly for NYE. Will we be out of place if she's not in a cocktail dress and I'm without sportcoat?

    :)

    Thanks for your help.

We are on the queen right now. I would say that for Xmas eve the Ladies will be dressed to the 9s and gentlemen will be in suits. A few tuxes. So for New Years eve I would expect the same. It's the one reason to go on a cruise, To get dressed to the 9s. Have a great time.

  15. Anyone been on this ship lately? We are kind of going backwards from the big ships to one of the older small ships since it goes out of Galveston.

    How was it???

We were on it in September. It's a nice smaller ship. Showing a little are, but over all a great ride. We have been on Harmony, Anthem, Navigator, and Radiance.

  16. Hello everyone;

I am looking for some insight into dining with RCI

My wife and I have done a few cruises, but almost all with NCL. We were attracted to the 'freestyle' idea, the ability to eat when we want, alone.

We were not enticed by the idea of having to eat at a set time and with strangers. We like to enjoy our time together when on a cruise and not have to sit with others.

We recently did a Disney cruise, the first time we broke out of the NCL mode, and though the set dining times were annoying, we got used to them.

The key thing was that the line made note of our desire to sit alone and on each meal we were able to do so.

I can't seem to find anything on the RCI website saying if they will do the same.

    Can anyone comment?

Is it set dining times and do you have to eat with others, or can they seat a couple privately?

    Thanks in advance

You can choose my time dining and can get a table for too. You can also reserve your time if you know the day before when you want to eat or just use the no res line.
