  1. Started cruising solo last January. Loved it. You can do as much or as little as you want. Requested a table alone in MDR. Plenty of people around to talk with. Met so many nice people. I think the staff gives you extra attention being a solo. Took my 2nd solo in October. Have 4 more booked. The family knows that solo cruising is the only way I cruise now.

  2. I never felt unsafe on my first solo in January. I stayed 2 nights in Ft Lauderdale before cruise. I took a taxi from airport to hotel and from hotel to the cruise port. The hotel was on 17th so you could walk to shopping and restaurants. When I take a taxi I take a photo of the taxi number and the driver and send to someone back home. The driver knows I do it and it gives me a sense of security. Will be traveling solo in October and January.

  3. I have friends that wouldn’t think of eating at a restaurant alone much less go to a movie alone. I’ve never understood why.  I’m married with grandchildren. I do family trips, land and cruise but have always loved to do things alone. May come from being an only child.  My first solo was on Adventure two months ago and liked it so  much I’ve booked a B2B for January on the Allure. I did as little or as much as I wanted. May never cruise with anyone again.

  4. JMSNYC, I’m not uneasy traveling alone. This suggestion was for several women on here that mentioned it. My phone battery never goes dead. I have a mophie that recharges it when it gets low.  My family jokes about it but when we are out together they come to me to charge their phones because they forgot to.

  5. I loved my first solo a couple of months ago so much I booked a B2B solo on Allure for January 2020.

I only cruise Royal but this will be my first time on an Oasis class ship. I’ve never booked a year out before and not sure I can last that long. I started looking today for a cruise late summer.

  6. A suggestion to the one a little uneasy going from airport to hotel to cruise port alone. I just downloaded the app on my phone called Noonlight. Once you put your finger on the button it’s tracking you in real time by gps. If you take your finger off you have 10 seconds to enter your code if you don’t need help. If you don’t enter the code the police and your emergency contact is called. Sounds good to me.

  7. I’ve always had late traditional seating on Royal when going with family. My first solo 2 months ago I chose traditional. I’m booked on a B2B solo in January and have changed to My Time Dining. I decided that gives me the option of sitting with others or asking for a single table. I found that some nights I want to socialize with others but some nights I enjoy eating alone.

  8. I cruised solo for the first time in January. I liked it so much that I’ve booked a solo B2B for next January.  I’ve done several family cruises but found that I prefer solo. My family was a little worried when I told them, I waited til 3 weeks before the trip to tell them. This time I told them as soon as I booked for January. They don’t have a problem, they know that I’m very careful and don’t put myself in risky situations. For me solo is my way to cruise from now on.

  9. I took a taxi from the FLL airport and a taxi from hotel to the port. I was never nervous. I take a picture of the driver and the taxi and text to my husband and son. The drivers know I do it. It makes my family not as anxious when I travel alone. Doing a B2B next January solo.  Doing a family/friend vacation at the beach this summer so I don’t always vacation alone but do like cruising solo.

  10. Karinad, I flew in early and stayed 2 nights at Renaissance Cruise Port hotel.  I got a taxi from the airport to the hotel.

The hotel is in a very safe area and you can walk to all sorts of shopping and restaurants. I even walked across the street and had my nails done.  On the day of the cruise the hotel called me a taxi to pick me up early (9:45) and he took me to the port.

Was on the ship by 10:30.  Got a taxi to the airport on day I got off the ship. When I go alone and use a taxi I take a photo of the taxi cab with it's number and also take a photo of the driver.  I text those photos to my husband/son just in case there is a problem.  Everything went very smooth.

  11. I just got back from my first solo. Best cruise I ever had. Already booked solo for B2B on Allure in January.  I did exactly what I wanted to do. Some days I rested others I was busy all day. Not sure I’ll ever cruise with anyone again!

  13. Been on six cruises, always with family.  I never have alone time and when I’m stressed I will tell family that one day I’m going away where nobody can call me. Taking my first solo cruise on RCI Adventure in January. A 65th birthday gift to my self. I haven’t told the family yet, I know they will try to talk me out of it as they will worry about my safety. Probably announcing at Christmas! Can’t wait to do as much or little as I want!
