From what I remember reading here last year NCL switched all their Skagway itineraries to ISP after the rockfall. I’d hope most of the cruiselines with big ships have alternative ports lined up for this year after last seasons issues.

    What is ISP?  Sorry

  2. We're on the Oct 9 sailing and are excited to visit Havana! We have a porthole room, but we booked months ago, so our lower price is locked in thankfully :) The only added expense now is a $75 Cuban Visa, which our understanding is that Carnival will have the paperwork at the terminal to fill out, and the expense will be charged to our on board account.

We are also on the Oct 9 sailing. There is also an undisclosed amount being added to port fees and taxes for health insurance in Cuba! And our paperwork states you must sign affidavit if you do anything except ship excursions and they must be approved "tours". Doesn't sound like you can just go on our own like we always do. Hmm?

  3. According to paperwork we received, you can cancel with full refund or plan a different cruise. There is also a charge for health insurance in Cuba. They don't tell us what that is, only that it will be added to fees and taxes. They act like you don't have to worry but you still have to pay this undisclosed amount.

  4. We are concerned about the additional expenses. We received our email today about a change in our itinerary to Cuba. We now must have passports, a visa and Cuba health insurance. Carnival is crediting us $100 each however it is $75 for the visa for us, a one time use, and an undisclosed amount for the required health insurance. Everything that you want to do in Cuba requires a signed affidavit. Not even sure what that states.

We can't change dates as this is when the grands are on school break. Hopefully we will have more information soon.

All the rest of our group will have to get passports. We already have ours.

Where I am excited to see Cuba as a choice, I'm concerned about all the added expenses and the travel affidavit.

  5. Going alone to beach... Blue Kay?

Going to Costa Maya via Holland America Ryndam this month. I am 67 year old female who will be doing this port alone. Would I be safe going to Blue Kay alone? Since I will be swimming and a little light snorkeling near shore, I won't take much with me, towel, phone to take pics, a little money and I.D. I can put that in a waterproof pouch and take with me in the water. Just wondering about safety on trip there and back and while on beach. Thanks
