  1. ICE COLD - that's what the main pools were on our last cruise, and I expect it to be the same on our upcoming sailing. Don't know why these pools are not heated, but if you do more than dangle your feet in them, prepare to be covered with gooseflesh.

  2. There is nothing at all at San Pedro but Long Beach would be an easy walk downtown.

Lived there 3 years and I can tell you there is a very good In-n-Out burger joint there on Western Ave. And Sushi 21 ($21 for all you can eat) is terrific! But no, not much else other than Fort MacArthur, which is very nice. Plus a high-speed boat ride to Catalina Island should be worth considering!

  3. I've been on exactly ONE cruise in my life, and that was on the fantastic Regal Princess last December. :D I love to eat sushi and before the cruise I assumed I would be able to satisfy any sushi cravings I had on Princess' newest, largest ship. Boy was I wrong. I was surprised to find that only a few types - less than 5 - were offered, almost as an afterthought, at the Ocean Terrace. When I tried to indulge, I was VERY disappointed in the quality and of course the lack of variety. Maybe it is an exercise in expectation management, but is good sushi simply not a culinary priority on Princess ships? It sure didn't stop me from loving the cruise (booked my second for this December), but maybe the future has a different ship in store - one that serves up my fishy delicacies with aplomb! Is there such a thing?

  4. I am curious as to why there seems to be such a substantial difference in the CC reviews section between the Regal's approval rating (76%) and the Royal's (68%). What few differences there are between these two beautiful ships seem too inconsequential to account for such a difference in approval ratings. Any speculations?

  5. We're eager for our Royal cruise as well and very pleased to read the comments! Since we're paying for the overall shipboard experience and there are only the two of us, I too have no concern with the balcony size (as long as I can sit, read a book, look at the beautiful sea and hear the swoosh of the waives against the ship I'm happy). Very interested in test-tasting the new Horizon Court. BTW, does anyone know if Trivia is in the Wheelhouse bar, or somewhere else with the new ship configuration?

If it's like Regal (and it is :D) then trivia is held in several venues. We attended in Club 6, and the Vista Lounge. Look at some of the posted Patters and you can see where else they have held it

  6. I hope by the time we cruise on Feb 15th they do away with the staggered boarding. We have to leave hotel by 11 am and our deck doesn't board until 1:30. What do they expect u to do. We have preferred boarding but don't know what that does for u with staggered boarding. We normally arrive at port by 10 am. I know I have seen them say staggered boarding before and they never went by it. I think a lot of times they have said staggered boarding to keep everyone from showing up at the same time.

just ignore that staggered boarding crap. Nobody paid attention to it that I could see. We had no preferential boarding status, nor a suite, but showed up at the Port 11 and were in the Horizon Court by 12:15. No passengers nor Princess Employees that I could see cared one bit about anyone's "assigned boarding time".

  7. Sailing on Regal in April. Some questions...

In addition to Alfredo's, where else on ship can I find pizza and how do they compare to one another?

Where do I find self serve ice cream? Is it available 27/7?

Other than MDR, buffet, international café, Alfredo's and Wheelhouse Bar, where are there other meals offered that are inclusive in cruise fare?

How much is the gelato (on Ruby I paid $1.50 per scoop..not sure if it's more on Regal)?

    Can you tell I'm a foodie? :D

    Any must see entertainment?

    Thanks!

The pizza at Alfedo's is far and away the best pizza available on the ship. I tried pizza on the Lido deck and room service pizza (horrible - like Chuck E Cheese pizza), and will only go to Alfredo's next time.

Ice cream. Swirls and Gelato. Not 24 hr.

  8. We're on the Regal sailing 1/18/2015. Just wondering what lot you had reserved and was closed. We're driving and haven't reserved our parking yet but leaning toward the Embassy lot on 17th. Don't like those kind of surprises. Thanks

We did this cruise on Dec 7th also and I can enthusiastically recommend "Gold Coast" parking. They were very professional, took us right to the ship quickly, and had the car ready when we got back. We waited maybe 10 minutes for pick up after the cruise. $8/day.
