  1. We were on the carnival valor last year and booked a trip from a tour company. I can't remember the name, it was about $100 snorkle gear included. Look at the st thomas forum and I am sure you will find it. You got right off the cruise ship and took a fast ferry for 45 mins. Then they had free transport to trunk bay in open truck taxi's. Only bad part was that they wanted to stop for pictures and take

We've chartered a sailboat privately twice from Red Hook to St. John (Caneel Bay).

We've never had a problem making the journey to / from port. The Captains operating the charters are well aware of the cruise ship schedule.

I wholeheartedly recommend privately chartering if you want to spend a memorable day.

  2. Don't purchase any Invicta watches the pro diver was going for $250 and you can pick it up on Amazon for $83

One tip I could give that I use would be if you are interested in cologne or perfume to price out the different sizes prior to leaving with your local stores. Sometimes the deals are meant to look like a huge savings when in fact they are only a couple of dollars difference. Watches on board as well can be tricky as my FIL once bought a nice Citizen on board and Kohl's had the same watch cheaper on sale. Sometimes it is nice to purchase such items to constantly remind you about the wonderful trip you had when you purchased it. My favorite purchase from cruise would be hands down a painting of the Charlotte Amalie harbour we purchased directly from the artist in the downtown area.
  3. My personal feeling about the Midnight Buffet, from my very first cruise on Navigator in 2004, was 'over indulgence'. Let's face it, we had eaten only a few hours ago. I would rather have a 'deck party' to enjoy during the late hours, since when we are on a cruise we seem to manage to stay up MUCH MUCH later than we ever stay up at home. It is amazing!

I will be on Allure, June 2014 to see for myself.

I remember being on the Navigator in 2004. My dad and I were the only people eating the caviar at the midnight buffet. We actually posted up on than end of the table. They had a 1/2 kilo of beluga, we probably ate $2000 worth. Wish other people would have eaten it. Shame that don't have it any more.

  4. Yes, it is a per-cabin charge of $3.95, between the hours of midnight and 5 am. This was implemented as a service charge (not a tip) to discourage passengers from ordering a lot of food late at night, and then not answering the door. You may tip a few dollars if you wish.

Sounds like I need to order at 11:45 and save a sandwich for late night. Dam kids falling asleep on the room service staff, lol

  5. People have reported being able to get only the milkshake. However, you need to tell them up front, before they seat you, because they will quickly serve you fries and onion rings when you sit down.

Are the burgers any better than the wind jammer or dining room? Do they offer breakfast?
