  1. The only uncovered balconies I’m aware of on this class of ship are aft facing balcony cabins such as these. Hopefully you’ll enjoy the ship as much as we have on the Royal & Regal and will do so in the future on the Sky. The Majestic’s changes are not appealing to me so may never sail on that ship.

You are very cruise ship savvy and I appreciate your knowledge! I’m used to the Grand Class ships (i love the Grand!). I didn’t like the Island. Too small, no Vines, no IC, no disco (I may be 67 but I love the disco at night! So much fun). I hope you have a great time on your next trip. Hard to have a bad time on a cruise! Smooth sailing! 2. We had a deluxe balcony cabin...D508...which when looking down from the railing the view was between lifeboats. Checking the deck plans, you’ll have the same view from your balcony. But we rarely looked in that direction so it didn’t affect our enjoyment on the balcony.

Most balconies on this class of ship are 20% smaller (9’x4’ vs 9’x5’) than standard balconies on other Princess ships. When seated, that results in not directly facing the railing & at either a 45 degree angle or parallel to the railing. There are some larger balconies in the midship bumped out section, aft facing and some upper deck forward balconies.

Here’s a link to a CC photo that shows the smaller Royal-class balconies which are the majority of balconies.

Thank you so much for your reply. I feel better about the balcony view. Can you please tell me if the balcony is covered on Dolphin? The cabin looks great in the pictures; unfortunately, we were BF and were upgraded to BE, but won’t be enjoying a Deluxe Balcony Room. This trip, who cares? I’ve never been on the Royal and am looking forward to cruising on her! Thanks again!

  3. Curious about D602 on the Royal. We, too, were upgraded from a guaranteed balcony on the March 20 voyage to the Eastern Caribbean. This cabin and balcony seem quite small, and there is a lifeboat one deck below. Usually book a mini suite, but keeping costs down this trip. Looking forward to your comments. Smooth sailing!

  4. First-time poster...

I've tried to search out some info but couldn't find anything to current. I am on the Carnival Victory 3/9-12 with a stop in Nassau overnight. We arrive at 10 am and depart next day 7 am.

Having been to Nassau a few times and living in Florida none of the ship excursion really interest me. Wife and I wanted to head over to Exuma this time.

Has anyone taken any of the non-ship trips? Are there any that will accommodate the Carnival 10 am arrival?

    TIA

I checked Trip Advisor for you and, unfortunately, the tours to Xuma leave at 8 or 10 in the morning. Sorry.

  5. Utter Codswallop. Never, in my 11 cruises on Princess have I seen 90% in tuxes or dark suits.

I think it may depend on the itinerary. I've cruised Princess 9 times; Hawaii, Mexico, Panama Canal; I agree with 90%, especially Hawaii and the Canal. Most ladies quit wearing beaded gowns due to the gowns' weight during travel. But for goodness sake, everyone should dress how they want. Many people who don't like to dress go to Horizon or a Specialty Restaurant on Formal nights. They do what THEY want. Peace out.

  6. Sorry Victoria - after I posted I thought to myself - maybe he is a she. Yes we have been through Interlochen - DW and would often travel up that way in the summer for garden walks - she is a master gardener.

No problem! Next time you come this way contact me and you can stay with us on Green Lake. We're booked on the Grand, SF roundup to Mexico. Have done this itinerary 3 times! But nephew is from Oregon and never been on a cruise! Leaving September 25. You?

  7. I just called the 866-928-3106 number for Barclay Card. I immediately reached Susan, a customer service manager. She was WONDERFUL! We went over my statements and she corrected my account to show my double points, which appeared on my online account while we were on the phone. Woo Hoo! She apologized for all the problems earlier callers had with customer service and the writing of a "ticket." Once they realized there was an issue that affected many people, they started referring callers to a manager so a credit would appear within 24 hours. Hope anyone else that still has an issue has it resolved quickly. And yes, if you want to use your points for onboard credit, you need to do so 15 days prior to sailing. Thanks to all who posted here! Your information was extremely valuable!

  8. We have just booked the IP for February, 2019/Panama Canal. I haven't sailed Princess for many years. Now in reading posts, almost everyone says "do not sail the Island". I like the itinerary, but am really apprehensive. Is the ship really-really that bad??? I also saw it goes back into dry dock in December. Does anyone know about possible upgrades?

We have a mini suite booked on Deck 9.

No Vines, no International Cafe, no dance place like a One5, but you can dance in one of the lounges. I didn't like how small the ship was, being able to stand in the middle and see out both sides, and on our 19 day to Panama the menu was a little recycled. Would I sail this ship again? No. Was the fact that it was Panamax sized to go through the canal a bother? No. The ship is good to go through the canal, but I like bigger ships. Enjoy your voyage!

  9. Those of you who have had Richard Joseph as a Cruise Director know he's the best. He just announced that he has left Princess and is now Cruise Director on Celebrity. Princess's loss is Celebrity's gain. I'm so glad I was able to have lunch with him in December and spend time with him.

What happened to Australia? Or was that someone else?

  10. My goodness that was a lot of alcohol information!

With respect to Anytime Dining: I always book Traditional Dining. One reason is because Anytime just means come by anytime and we will give you a disk that lights up and buzzes when we have a table ready. Some passengers really dislike the wait. TD means a set time, same dining companions, and most importantly, same waitstaff! You can request a table for two or ten.

Whichever way you choose, enjoy your voyage! [emoji568]

  11. Dearest CC friends,

Today my TA advised me of an upsell offer on our upcoming Regal cruise.

Currently booked in the highest category balcony. D4 I think is the name. A nice aft cabin, half covered and uncovered.

Upsell is for an owners suite. Still aft. Different deck. Corner cabin. But not covered (although a portion of the balcony is covered).

    $600 PP.

Including what we already paid + the upsell price, the total would be about half of what the cabin is currently listed for on the Princess site.

    Worth it? Help me decide.

    Thanks,

    -Andrew :)

Where are you going, and for how long?

  12. Specialty coffee/tea drinks use a punch from the coffee card.

It depends on how many you plan on drinking.

Iced tea in the buffet/DR etc is free.

My friend drinks ice tea all day, and gets it from the buffet, etc. and pays nothing. If you like specialty teas like Chai, you would need the card.

  13. I've been spending time online comparing brands. I DO want to buy a rolling garment bag, no need to write about there not being a need for one. I want one for many type trips, not just cruising. I also want one that is bigger than Carry-On.

Does any one have experience with this one? Or recommend another under $200?

Recently I was told to go to TJ Maxx for luggage. At first, I laughed. But, when I went there I found wonderful deals on Samsonite. You may want to check there; they are also online with their luggage deals.

  14. Well, because of this thread, I now know they have the charm and have ordered two of them. Might buy a few more for the kids and grandkids too. I'm not a big charm bracelet person but this seems unigue and fun since we've been cruising Sitmas, now Princess, since the 1970s.

Did you by ANY chance get an extra 50th charm? I was on the Grand twice last year and didn't realize they had them until last month and they were out. Thanks, Victoria

Please see later post where I actually introduce ourselves!
