    Hi Mamma G,

We are booked on the previous Black Sea cruise (June 29) but wonder if it will proceed because of the low vaccination rates and high incidence of Covid in the countries visited.

There's nothing we can do about it but hope for the best and wait and see.

We have cruised on Azamara many times and have always found it a great experience, so we certainly hope this cruise will go ahead.

    Cheers,

    Sue

Hi Sue, to be honest I am more worried about the situation developing on border of Ukraine. If it escalates, I could see cruise being cancelled. Hopefully things will settle well before July.

  2. Mamma make sure you do not pay way too much for a visa, do NOT book through a cruise line, P and O wanted 3 times the normal price for 'helping' us. Get in touch with your countries Indian embassy or consulate and ask them how to get a visitors visa.

Hi Rusty, as we are visiting 3 ports, I know we are not eligible to apply for e-visa, so I will need to apply for full visa and take it to our local consulate here in Scotland. I was hoping that being on a cruise and not actually leaving Indian waters, we could have got away with the e-visa.

  3. Since we do not overnight we would leave the ship at Ha Long Bay and meet back up at Da Nang my concern is having an issue with the ship in doing this.

Surely, your holiday, your choice on what you do. As long as you accept the responsibility for your planned excursion/ adventure, and arrive back in time for ship sailing, then there should not be a problem. Contact cruise line with regards to their policy on overnights etc.

  4. So you also departed from the ship at one location and hooked back up at another?

If so did you require any special permission from the ship to do this?

It would be nice if Vietnam extended it to the USA as Visas are going to cost us 400 dollars for the 5 of us

No, we were overnight in Phu My, which is about 2 hours from Saigon.

We simply notified ship that we would be staying in Saigon and would return in time for departing next day. There were passengers who did get off in one port and returned to ship in another port. As long as you notify ship, have necessary visa, if required, then the choice is yours. I would suggest you contact a reputable local company who will supply mini bus or car and English speaking guide. It really is an adventure not to be missed and well worth the effort it takes to organise.

  5. any thought on this scenario for our Asia Cruise next December

We will stop in Vietnam - Ha Long Bay, Da Nang and HCMC - no overnights.

We plan on departing the ship in Ha Long - touring to Hanoi - overnighting on our own there and meeting back up with the ship in Da Nang ( flying or overnight train, not sure yet)

We will be on NCL and they can not tell us anything about visas as this is still a new destination for them and no ship has yet been.

I have spoken with the embassy and they tell me a multiple entry visa (80Pp) is fine.

    any thoughts

Until end of June 2016, certain nationalities do not require a visa eg. British, French, Belgian etc. USA citizens do require visa. When the trial period ends, I believe that the Viet government will extend it as the country is very keen to build up the tourist industry and rely on foreign visitors to boost the economy.

If visa is required, the cruise line issue this on board ship, the evening before you sail into port.

Your ship will probably dock about 2 hours from Saigon and it is a real pity you are not doing any overnights. A group of us got together through the forum, hired a mini bus, guide, booked hotel, did a river dinner cruise and it was much cheaper than doing 2 days of tours with the cruise line. It also cut down on travel to and from ship. Vietnam is an enchanting, exhilarating country to visit.

  6. Just disembarked from Queen Victoria after a great cruise. I have to say that we were disappointed with the entertainment. There was only 1 production show in 7 nights and personally I thought that it was disappointing. It was dance based and was not to my taste.

On the other nights I think there was a trio of singers (twice), a pianist, a comedy act and one other. They did not tempt us. However, we thought the ship, the food and generally the service aboard was superb ( we were in PG) but if you like glitzy Broadway type shows, I would suggest that this is not the line for you

Thanks for the information. It is quite some time since I cruised where I could honestly say that the entertainment was worth watching. Glad to hear that all other aspects of the cruise were more than acceptable.

  7. Hi cruisers. Just thought I'd start thread. I've never cruised with Cunard and have been hearing mixed reviews from fellow cruisers. Some said the entertainment was particularly poor. Is that true?

  8. Hi guys we are sailing on Mariner of the Seas on 11th of February from Singapore I know you can obtain a visa for Vietnam on board for Australian and U.S.A passport holders I was wondering if this was so for British Passport holders.Would appreciate any input on this matter. Thanks Janet.

As a British passport holder NO visa is required for Vietnam. This applies to German and Italian citizens also. Check Vietnam embassy site to confirm for yourself. I simply googled Vietnam visas as I am going there in October. Hope you have a great time.

Cruised Asia in January and cost of wine by glass was $7.50 plus 15% tax on every drink. Tried to book for cruise on October 7th several times but ultimate package did not show. Then suddenly tried again one Sunday and there it was. So I suggest you keep trying. You could always phone RCC and ask for the package. It could be they removed it but will sell package before boarding the ship. Maybe at a higher price though than online. Good luck.

  10. hello, can anyone give me a little information oforthe back to back cruise from Singapore on October 29th on the ultimate drinks package. I have looked on the webpage and they charge £32.75 pp per day and I would like to know how this teams up with the charge on board. I'm trying to work out if we would really drink £917 for the 2 of us. Does anyone know what the prices are on board as a package and as individual drinks price list, and are they charged in dollars on board? I thank you in advance:)

I bought drinks package on our last RCC. Found it cheaper to buy online before cruising. Drinks on board average $6-8 plus 15% service charge, even on specialty coffees etc. I thought ultimate package well worth the money and suggest buying. We have already purchased ours for Mariner of the Seas 7th October.
