  1. I haven't been to Cozumel in a few years. I recall a very long dock. Do they still have lots of the guys with pedicabs hanging around in the morning and afternoons? Traveling with someone who can't make that walk easily. Thanks

We were in Cozumel Nov. 11, 2016 on the Fantasy and yes the pedicabs were still there.

  2. During our last cruise to Progreso in 2010, we hired a taxi and driver to go to Merida. Can someone tell me what the cost for a van to hold 10 people would be today, and are they still located near the small market in downtown Progreso?

  3. I noticed that airfare to Mobile from Dayton OH is twice the price than to NOLA or Houston! That's what made me question if I was looking at the right airport. I guess I'll have to consider one of those ports instead, as it'd be a loooong drive for us. Thanks!

I find that if I book far enough ahead, I can find some pretty reasonable rates in and out of Mobile. Other alternatives are flying into Pensacola, FL or Gulfport, MS where you will usually find cheaper rates. Drive from Pensacola or Gulfport are both around a 60 mile drive.

  4. I'm pretty sure it will more than likely be a Fantasy class ship. Things could have changed over the last 3-4 years, but back when Carnival was sailing from Mobile, the turning basin wasn't large enough for a ship much bigger than a Fantasy class ship. So unless they've widened the turning basin, it's probably going to be a Fantasy class.

I agree with you that it will probably be a Fantasy Class ship, but the turning basin can handle ships up to 900' in length and the channel depth is 45' which also sufficient. I just don't believe Carnival will put a larger ship here until if or when it is shown the number of passengers would warrant it.

  5. Quick question: so what is the cost for a private driver like Gerry or Lazaro? Per hour? Sounds like a great option. Thanks!

We have booked Gerry for May 20th at the rate of $95.00 for the first three hours and $25.00 per hour after that. That is for him and his transportation and not per person. So, it is a very good deal to me.

  6. Well we were lucky enough to get Gerry as our driver on May 20th.:D Now we just have to decide what we want to do and where we want to go. After reading all of the posts with glowing reports on Playa Bonita, I'm sure that is where we will have lunch. Can someone tell me just where Playa Bonita is located? I have tried to find it on Goggle Earth to see if anyone had uploaded photos of it, but could not find any.

  7. I meant to ask someone on our Oosterdam cruise but became "overcome" with just being on another "DAM" ship and forgot.:D Surely someone on here knows the answer to "What does "dam" mean at the end of the names of HAL's ships and most of Hollands cities?

  8. Those stairs are used to evacuate the stern section of the ship to the Promenade Deck in case of an emergency.

Shame you don't have the stateroom forward of the stairs, as you'd enjoy the larger verandah that continues past that stairtower...

Noise shouldn't be an issue, as those stairs are rarely used.

    Enjoy!

    Brian,

Thanks for the info. We do have the stateroom forward of the stairs. So, this means that we can use the verandah that continues past the stairtower? How lucky can one get!

  9. Didn't stay in it, but saw it when I was on Oosterdam...

...bit shorter than the others - sitting area is just a loveseat instead of a sofa. - otherwise the same.

    Brian,

We are booked on the Oosterdam to Alaska in May and had a question about our Stateroom. We are booked in VD 4164 which, when looking at the deck plan, seems to be just forward of some stairs. Do you have any idea what they are and if they could be a noise problem?

    Thanks,

    Richard
