  1. Great! Thank you so much.

If you are looking to share a private tour, ask on the roll call for your cruise. I believe that someone shared the link with you in another post.

It might be too late to make reservations and book cruises. Booking closes a week or two before embarkation. Check on MyVikingJourney.com, which you should have already registered for. You will be able to make reservations for specialty restaurants once you are on board. Do it on the day you board.

If you are looking for tips, read the thread

Tips for New Viking Ocean Cruisers It is long but you will learn a lot more than waiting for folks to respond here.

  2. Hello.

We are Jan and Bill Nemetz. We have been on two river cruises with viking. This is our first Ocean cruise.

We just signed up for West Indies to Spain departing March 4 (five days ago) so we have some fancy footwork to do in a short period of time.

We would appreciate any tips, suggestions, recommendations.

We signed up for the meet and greet and currently looking into the excursions (a couple of which are already sold out). Are there options for private excursions outside of Viking? We are interested in something like a Tapas tasting while is spain.

Do we need to book reservations for dining in the specialty restaurants?

Again, we are looking for any tips etc you can offer us.

We are looking forward to this trip and meeting everyone.

    Kind regards, Jan Nemetz

  3. That's right come join us over in the roll call, there's are 50+ signed up for our meet and greet ...we are a friendly crowd!

Thanks Clay. I will sign up for meet up soon. We are in the process of signing on the dotted line. Any suggestions for packing? Not sure what to expect regarding weather for tours in Spain.

We are looking forward to meeting you and others on this wonderful journey.

    Kind regards,

    Jan

  4. Hello,

We are signed up for the Viking Cruise going down the Danube on November 4, 2015. We are going to Prague three days before for the pre trip.

Has anyone out there done this November Danube trip? I was wondering about the weather. From what I understand it is a nice time to go since there are way less crowds.

I appreciate anyone feedback, suggestions, trip suggestions, etc.

    Thanks much.

  5. YMMV. I have been on two river cruises that had mid-teens (both situations involved 3 generations). A 3 week cruise this year involved a single teen and she was interested in experiencing everything, and was a delight. A few years ago we had two teens who made it quite clear that they did not want to be there - both they and I would have been a lot happier had they stayed home. Perhaps they would have done better had there been other teens on board.

PS I think that comments that ocean cruises may be a better fit for children are appropriate on this river cruise forum. Discussions about the best ocean cruise line to take with children would seem more in place on some other thread.

Thom, thank you for your input. We have explained this is not a fun ship cruise. Michael, aged 15 has been on two of those and understands there are no climbing walls, pools etc. on this ship. We made it quite clear that the majority of folks will be grandpas and grandmas but they seem to be excited to experience the places in Europe we will be visiting. Especially Heidelberg where grandpop was born and lived.

  6. We have a multigenerational Viking river cruise booked for next summer. Grandparents, parents and grandkids. The youngest is 10. We have traveled all over the world together. It's a great way to spend family time together. We went on a previous river cruise and the kids had a good time.

    Hello Bellarose,

We also are taking a multigenerational cruise on the same trip as you and your family. Our granchildren are 11 (krista) and 15 (Michael). It is nice to know that there will be other children on board. This is our first river boat cruise, since you've done it before with family, are there any tips or suggestions you can provide? This will be a trip of a lifetime for our family and we are all excited about it.

    Thank you.

    Kind regards, Jan Nemetz
