  1. Radiance of the Seas will stop in Monterey on Sunday, May 7, 2023. My companion and I are looking for a small tour (or even an uber!) to drive the 17 mile drive and drop us off in Carmel. After a few hours, we'd want an uber to take us back to Monterey. So far, all we've found is tours from San Francisco. The ship excursion is a full size bus that costs $117 per person, which is a bit outside of our budget.

Has anyone else had experience with a port stop in Monterey? Is it easy to pick up transportation near the port? Does anyone know of tour companies in the area that could put together a small group tour?

    Thanks for any help!

Yes, I found a tab on my disputes page to report multiple charges for the same transaction. The card immediately took those charges off of my statement. A few weeks later, I got a letter saying that Royal Caribbean had also found the mistake and reversed the charges. It all worked out in the end.

Whoops - spoke too soon! My credit card company gave me a permanent credit for one of the charges. As for the second charge, Royal refunded only half of it and my credit card company closed the dispute. So now I have applied to reopen that dispute, to get the other half back. I have a valid charge for $650, plus an additional charge of $325. My fear is that Royal will somehow cancel the valid one, so I will no longer have the drink package at the Black Friday price of $54.99.

Just curious!  Has this been resolved to your satisfaction?

Be sure that it is not saying pending.  Usually it "comes off"  itself.  If it does not say pending on your credit card charges then you have an issue and I would call your card issuer.

I was hoping that was the case. But they moved from pending to full transactions yesterday. I'm glad it was an otherwise empty credit card. I don't mind carrying a $2000 balance for a few days, but I want it to be resolved before the payment date.

  5. Oasis of the Seas

    Deck 11

    Stateroom 11916

Category 2T (inside with "promenade" view, though it looks onto Boardwalk, not promenade)

    Boardwalk view

Quiet? If there is music playing in the music hall, we can hear it. It's quiet enough to talk over, but loud enough to be disruptive if you are trying to sleep.

    Connecting? no

    No balcony

    No wind

    No soot

Problems? The curtains are an issue. The sheers are hooked to the black out curtains, so it's either all or nothing. Either the room is dark or wide open.

Comments: Bring a clothespin or two so that you can keep the black out curtains open and clip the sheers closed. That way you will get sunlight and keep your privacy as boardwalk balconies can look right into the room. This room is right next to the card room, but there was no noise from that room, even though it was always packed during our voyage. The closet is small, and there is only one chair rather than a sofa. The room and bathroom are both smaller than in a balcony room. Perfect for solo traveler or two very tidy people.

Would 9560 or 10560 have a good view forward? I know it sounds silly but we usually have a hump balcony on Indy and some of the Anthem balconies seem quite set back.

I'll be in 10560 in February. I'll be happy to send you pictures after the cruise. Please remind me if I forget!

  7. We're boarding the Equinox on Sept. 19th in Istanbul, but the ship does not leave until 1:00 on Sept. 20.

My question - what time should we board on the 19th, and secondly, after we have boarded, can we leave the ship again to continue touring Istanbul without our bags?

    Any advice would be appreciated.

  8. I'll be on a cruise that has a 12 hour stop in Civitavecchia. On that day, there are 6 other cruise ships in port, for a total of about 18,000 people that will probably be heading to Rome.

I had planned to take the train to Rome, but now I'm worried that because of the crowds, that might not be a viable option. I do see other options that would cost quite a bit more than the $10 train fare. I will spend the money for a private transfer ($90) if I have to, but I'm unsure if that's an over-reaction.

Does anybody else have any experience with that port on a day when seven ships are in port? Was there a long wait and/or no space on the train? Is Celebrity's $90 private train transfer a good option? There is also a $60 option for bus transfer, but I would rather take a train, as it is faster.

I would appreciate advice and feedback! Thank you!
