  1. My friend and I are booked on the August 21, 2022 Splendors of Europe cruise through Emerald Waterways.  I decided earlier in the year to have them book our air as well because they paid $1200 per person for airfare during a booking promotion last year.  I decided to upgrade to premium economy when I told them to book our air,   so  they transferred me to a Scenic air specialist to book my flights.  Initially the booking to Budapest  she set us up for was for August 10 instead of August 20th, so I returned her email saying that needed correction.  She did correct it, but it still has the original incorrect flight on my Trip Personalizer so it comes up as incomplete.   I have been able to get thru to Emerald a few times after hours of hold time, and the correction is still not been made on the Trip Personalizer.  I am getting worried that as things get closer I will be all messed up with things.  Also my friend's middle name (which is on her Passport) is not on her airline reservation.  Is this a problem too?  Help!!!!!

  2. I got an email from Carnival telling me my Glory booking was cancelled.  It had my booking number on it but it mentioned the Carnival Dream as the ship.  I am very confused so I tried to look up my booking under "manage my cruise" and it no longer exists.  Also, there are several weeks now from January 23 thru Febr 6, 2022 that does not show any  cruises for the Glory during that time.  Tried to call Carnival a number of times, but got tired of waiting for someone to answer and gave up for a later time.  Anyone else hear anything on this?

  3. I am not familiar with Cunard, but am interested in cruising to Norway the summer of 2023.  I am wondering if anyone out there knows approximately when that summer sailing schedule might be available for booking.  I know their solo cabins go quickly and I hope to snag one.  Thank you.

  4. They may have to ditch lobster night and substitute a nice piece of fish to go with the shrimp.  Many people don't care about lobster anyway.  I kind of look forward to lobster night, but it wouldn't make or break my cruising enjoyment.  There may have to be some other cost cutting in all aspects of cruising, but I would be ok with it if it was needed to stay afloat so to speak.

  5. We can all suppose and hope that cruising takes the path we wish it would take.  A lot of people of all ages and risk factors will choose to cruise as soon as it opens up.  I am in a quandary about cruising in the immediate future.  I have seen where young athletic men die from it and a story of a 104 year old woman survived it, so who really knows. Many who survive it may have long term problems.

    I have a cruise with 2 friends at the end of this February, and plan to see what happens by the end of November.  If Carnival hasn't cancelled by then, we will most likely cancel or move it to 2022.  All we can do is wait as I don't believe even  the "white hats" know.  They are trying to keep everyone 's cruising hopes up, and one day it will actually start up again.

    Count yourself very fortunate, unlike those of us who live in Queens, NYC, the first epicenter of the epicenter.  I can tell you I will never forget hearing the sirens of ambulance after ambulance and looking across the street to seeing men in hazmat suits removing a dead body from the basement apartment.

    Whenever I read posts from someone who says, "no problem here," I cringe and am thankful that you never listened to the sounds or saw the sights that we saw!

    Being in Wyoming it is only saved by the low population density as few people wear masks in my area.  I can't imagine seeing what you have. 😬

    Hopefully the people who thought they could go back to business as usual when states began opening back up don't assume the same with this news.

    Unfortunately "recommendations" don't mean anything to some.

    I am totally with you on this.  Was in a Wal-Mart today and perhaps 10 to 20% wore no mask!  Another man came into a medical clinic in the same town and got belligerent about wearing a mask.  He was very nasty to the elderly woman at the entrance and rudely claimed his doctor said he didn't have to wear one.  He then proceeded to try to run people over in his electric chair to head inside.  Poor lady was flabbergasted.  This is what we must deal with in this country before we can all safely travel...need to think about others and not just ourselves.

    Cruise ships are going to block of a certain number of cabins for quarantine, just in case there is an outbreak. It makes sense to stuff as many people as possible into the available cabins.

    I really hope you are wrong when cruising starts up here.  They can't possibly observe CDC guidelines if they do that in the foreseeable future.  Definitely would make cruising a disaster in the making.  It would be stupid too, because it may shut it down again if they "stuff" too soon.

    In the interim suspending all "excursions" might not be a terrible idea. I know that some of us really enjoy exploring different activities and the Cruise lines/Excursion companies enjoy the added revenue. However this action would assist in not having to worry if anyone strays during the outings. I am not saying that remaining on the ship during port days is a viable solution but remaining near the docking site may be "suggested" to help reduce the spread.

    Thoughts?

    I go to explore the places we go to, not the "trinket" selling dockside.  Just my thought.

    If cruises start before my Nov. 30 sailing and it's with masks and social distancing, I hope they will honor refunds to those who still feel uncomfortable cruising under those new situations.

    I know when Carnival cancelled my March 2020 cruise, rather than get a refund, we went ahead and rebooked for February 27, 2021.  Who would have thought we would still be in such a mess and that booking one for a year later may still be questionable.  If we have to do masks, and either take Carnival excursions only or have to stay on the ship, I do hope they allow refunds too.  I have until the end of November to make up my mind and would lose my deposit if I don't feel comfortable.  All 3 of us ladies will be 68+ by then.  Maybe they will allow us to change cruises for something later in 2021 without the change fees?  That could be an option perhaps.

    Also, John Heald mentions that cruising has restarted in Europe, but doesn’t mention with what stipulations:

    * No buffets

    * reduced passenger capacity

    * 10% of cabins reserved for potential covid cases

    * no independent port tours - passengers allowed to disembark at ports only if they PURCHASE a ship sponsored tour.

    * no menus - everything done by scanning bar codes

    * reduced number of people in pools and on decks

    * and several others

    Would the average Carnival cruiser be willing to accept these changes?

    I love cruising, BUT this is not my idea of a great vacation.  Especially bothersome is the port restriction on tours and being able.to get off the ship.

    That’s why I like that there are several cruise lines out there to meet the various needs of different people. On our last few cruises on Carnival, I never witnessed more rude behavior than I did on these cruises. People cutting in line, people being impatient at bars and some passengers literally yelling at bartenders, people jumping in front of other people to get on an elevator, seeing a fight break out during the muster drill (that was a one time occurence), people saving rows of lounge chairs at pool areas and Serenity, people loudly cursing when talking/complaining to crew members, etc.    My wife and I have enjoyed all of our cruises on Carnival, but both of us were getting tired with all the obnoxious behavior that seemed to get worse every Carnival cruise we went on. We have never witnessed anything like this on cruises on RCI and Celebrity.

    I have to agree with you on some of the behavior on the Carnival ships as well.  We were on a Carnival whale watching excursion in Cabo and one gal was holding this large tablet to record during most of the excursion.  She did not care if anyone else wanted.to see anything.  Another lady politely asked her if she could put her tablet lower so others could get some pictures.  The tablet woman jumped on her and told her to "get off her f'ing back and that she was bipolar and she'd kick her f'ing @$$."  I was totally shocked at this woman's response.  Not Carnival's fault, but all the nasty behavior I have witnessed has been on Carnival cruises.  By far, most people are very nice.

  13. I have been on Celebrity, RCC, NCL, Princess and Carnival.  NCL was my least favorite.  They all have their individual perks with Celebrity having the best food and service, RCC has over the top ships and good food, NCL has many dining alternatives although many cost extra, Princess has good itineraries, and Carnival has great prices.  I enjoyed all my cruises, but don't need the extras anymore and am happy to get a nice cabin, pretty good food, and entertainment is adequate for me.  I am retired and Carnival's decent product for the price allows me to see more places.  So I most likely will stay with them unless I want to go someplace where they don't cruise.
