  1. A short cab ride away from Dockyard is the village of Somerset, which has world famous Woody’s Restaurant. It is not very expensive. I got delicious roasted chicken there, I think it may have been Jamaican jerk seasoned, but they are famous for their wahoo sandwich (a local white fish). It is fresh off the boat, and it is served on raisin bread. Next time for sure I am trying that! It is quite near the world’s smallest drawbridge and some of the historical sites you may be interested in, a cemetery and little chapel, sea glass beach, too. Check them out on Trip Advisor or here on CC, everyone loves that place!

Three years ago I went to a restaurant walking distance from the Dockyard that had a really good fish sandwich on raisin bread but last year when I went back the restaurant had changed. (Oooh! I just Googled it and found it. It was Freeport Seafood Restaurant now Anchor Restaurant). I tried going to Art Mel's in Hamilton but never made it there. I've passed Woody's several times. I will definitely try to stop in next week. I've been craving that fish sandwich. It was so good. And to think, I thought that the raisin bread sounded crazy.

  2. ....

The great thing about being on hold with NCL is that you get to hear a snippet of Pitbull's "Freedom" over and over again. If you don't live in South Florida, you really can't appreciate how much we get to hear Mister 305. It makes me long for olden times when they overplayed Gloria Estefan and Miami Sound Machine...

LOL. If I never hear "You're free to do whatever you want and have a good time.." again I would not be disappointed. Maybe they'll hit us with Flo Rida next.

  3. I'm gen X but it would be nice to have some amount of free wifi per guest with the option to buy more (to avoid congestion). I would also like to have more overnight or late night options (like Bermuda sailings). I'd like to have dinner in port or dance at a beachside tiki hut. I can do that in Bermuda but the problem with that is Bermuda is not like many of the other ports (like parts of the Caribbean). I think safety (apart from loss of onboard sales) is one of the reasons that cruise ships don't dock overnight more. Imagine your tipsy passengers stumbling around unfamiliar territory trying to get back to the ship while in a place where there are a significant amount of financially strained people. Comparitively wealthy tourists getting robbed or assaulted would be bad. Or imagine loud, tipsy (or just obnoxious passengers walking through the streets making noise, etc. on what a local would just consider a work or school night. Now imagine this with maybe 2 ships a night 3 days of the week. 1 night if fun for us vs who knows how much disruption in the lives of locals (who are not a part of the bar or tourism industry). Plus, because of both scenarios, the port towns would have to increase their security. A tax could be levied against the cruise ships to cover the expense but then how many other/older cruise patrons would be alienated with raised fares/fees?

(I typed this with way too long finger nails on a cell phone - that died 2 seconds before I could hit send THE FIRST TIME I TYPED IT. I have a vertical 6/8ths of an inch at best window above my keypad to see what I am typing and my auto correct is turned off. Please forgive any rambling or typos, etc.) ☺

  4. The Brat Pack was moved to the main Theater and hasn't been in the Supper Club for our last three cruises. Our first cruise on Escape we were signed up to see it in the Supper Club but one of the dancers was injured and they had to cancel. The Supper Club has since been utilized for different free shows with a set meal and sometimes a special entertainer for a fee. We've enjoyed seeing 'Oh What A Night' and 'Company Men' in that venue. Nice place for a good show and a 45 minute set dinner.

    Ok. Thanks for the info.

  5. I am booked on the Escape on the 9/30 sailing and am unable to book any entertainment. I see After Midnight and For The Record: Brat Pack but both say they don't offer reservations (was on Escape last year and know both of those shows did) I called NCL and they said they have nothing in the system yet. They said either they are behind or there is a change over happening.

Anyone have any inside info? A little googling shows me that end of September is when the contracts end for the performers that boarded in March. I'm just hoping I am not in a change over week with an "in between" substitute show.

Awww man! I'm on that sailing too and I wanted to book After Midnight. I just thought maybe we were too far out from our sail date. I hope they give us something good if they do change. I've seek Burn the Floor like 3 times. I slept in and missed seeing Legally Blonde but did get to see Priscilla Queen of the Desert which I enjoyed.

  6. Good Morning Cruise Critics! Welcome to what I hope to be a Live Report from the awesome NCL Breakaway as we sail to Bermuda this week. We had originally planned to sail yesterday to Bermuda onboard Royal's Anthem of the Seas, but at the last minute booked Breakaway due to a family commitment on Saturday the came up just as we were going to book.

So we will have a 7 day cruise instead of a 5 day cruise, so a win none the less! We are all packed and about to head up the Jersey Turnpike to arrive at the Manhattan Cruise Terminal by 10-10:30 am. We are lucky enough to be in the Haven this week, in a Forward Penthouse, so depending on quality of the wifi, I hope to have many pictures and hopefully some videos to share of all our; activities, cabin, the Breakaway and hopefully Bermuda. This is our 6th time on Breakaway, so we are plenty familiar with her, but we are looking forward to any changes since our last sailing in April 2016.

Some of our plans in a checklist format:

    1) Have a safe and healthy trip! Lets hope.

    2) Enjoy the Haven and see some sights and shows onboard.

    3) Visit Horseshoe Bay in Bermuda. (Hoping for nice weather, currently the forecast is not that promising for the three days we are docked).

    4) Make a withdrawal from the Casino College Fund. ( Lord knows we have deposited enough over the years :) )

    5) Take tons of pictures and videos (wifi dependent) to share this week.

So, hope you can join us as we Freestyle the week away onboard Breakaway and invade Bermuda! See you soon from the road.

Horseshoe is beautiful. Try the cove to the right to see fish. Take some bread. You may want to buy a 2 day transportation pass. I've been on the Breakaway to Bermuda 2 times and can't wait to go back.

  7. It's been about 6 years since I cruised on NCL. I just booked an offer I received from Harrah's Atlantic City. Does anyone know what time of items/promos I will receive with this offer? Does NCL have a free drinks in the casino card, etc?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

You get a little tag on your casino player's card that says you get free house/rail drinks in the casino. Traveling solo I was fine with this because I won so many bottles of wine from the coin push machine (red and sparkling white) that I did not really need to buy drinks outside of the casino. I just grabbed a bottle from my room and exchanged it at the bar for a cold one lol. I had mimosas for brunch every day. Depending on when and what stateroom you book, you should also still qualify for at least 1 of the Free at Sea promotions. This time I was able to get the Ultimate Beverage Package for the price of tips ($99).
