  1. SHIP: Eclipse

    CABIN #: 1405

    DECK #: 10

    CLASS: Concierge

    AREA: Aft

    BED NEAR: Balcony

QUIET?: Yes, shares a lobby with suite next door. This lobby has a separate lockable door. Cabins have separate entrance door and there is total privacy with both cabin. However if someone would like to book both, it would be a good idea (two families, parents/kids).

    BALCONY VIEW: Aft, great views.

BALCONY SIZE: A bit smaller, cabin width exactly.

    WIND A PROBLEM?: No.

SOOT A PROBLEM?: Some soot on the floor occasionally, but it was washed and cleaned out almost every day.

PROBLEMS/COMMENTS: We sailed in May 2018 and the cabin has a bad odour inside which you notice when you walk in, but get used to when inside. The carpet was washed/cleaned and airconditioning filters changed, but it did not help the situation permanently. Bathroom did not have the smell or the bed area. Odor did not stick to clothes. We used an air freshner in the cabin.

  2. I can identify with the OP...when we are on a ship that stops in Grand Cayman, the sting rays line up on the bottom and spell out "welcome back GH".

Northern lights, top of Norway would be on my list as well.

    some other thoughts:

How about a couple of b2b repositioning type cruises...southampton to the US via iceland, newfoundland, quebec, etc....and back.

A cruise that included easter island....

Some geography facts: if you want to see the nothern lights you would have to visit the north in the winter when it is dark, and I don't think Celebrity ships have icebreaker cababilities. In the summer it is the midnight sun in the north and arctic circle and above. It is constantly light day and night, too light to see the northern lights. You can see the sun shining at night.

I know this because I have lived at the arctic circle in Lapland for many years.

I would like a long Norwegian fjords cruise starting from Copenhagen.

Also an American and Canada West coast cruise would be nice from LA to Vancouver.

  3. These are the things I found useful on my last cruise:

    1. Plastic basket with suction attachment to the shower glass wall inside the shower (to hold all shampoo bottles, razor etc. inside the shower on a right hight). The shower shelf is quite small and the bottles tend to drop on the floor.

    2. Hooks (suction to the shower glass door on the outside and magnetic ones on the cabin walls)

    3. S-hooks (bigger ones). The wall hooks on the cabin walls are quite short (1-2 cm).

    4. Big laundry bag to be placed on the clothes cabin floor.

    5. Light weight basket or a small tray for sun glasses, rings, watches, hair bands etc.

    6. Led light for reading in the evening or early morning (the kind you can attach to the head with a elastic band and the amount of light can be selected). The night light in the cabin next to the bed is quite strong and will wake up the cabin roommate.

In case you require an unlimited internet package and need to check work e-mail or have Facetime meetings during the cruise, and you are able to charge it as your work/company/employer expense, you may do so at the guest relations desk. They can charge the internet package fee separately on another credit card than what is on your cabin account/sea pass for your cruise expenses.

So my last advise is to take your company credit card with you even if you are traveling on a private vacation.

  4. I think part of this planning and cancellation stress may be caused by the fact that Americans do not have so many vacation weeks during their young and active working years. I have heard that you have two weeks vacation from work in a year (unpaid?). In the northern Europe employees have 5 weeks paid vacation a year and you may use it also during the winter months, for example two weeks in the winter, which is quite common.

The travel culture is also therefore different. We have taken all our active and "see and explore the world" trips usually by the time we are 40 or 50. In USA you have to experience all those long trips during the retirement years and unfortunately the energy and physical condition may not be the same any more. Unexpected heath issues may also occur. Of course this is not a rule, but this is what I am sensing from this long discussion thread. None of my family or people I know do so long and stressful vacation journeys any more when they are 60-80 years of age, as I have seen American cruise passengers do.

To be honest, I could not believe my eyes when we were on a longer cruise for the first time. If some of the passengers were my elderly family, I would not allow them to travel any more. However I wish I could keep traveling for a long long time, I am now 44 :) .

  5. I follow also on Pinterest. I have a special Pinterest board for cruise ships pictures and a shared board with my husband for planning of future cruise trips and its port activities. Like a visual cruise beforehand.

I follow you on Facebook and Instagram.

Facebook is too much corporate advertising and always professional pictures of the boats far away. I would like to see more pictures of inside the boat or reports of various social happenings that take place during the cruise (parties, sport, shopping, entertainment, bars, excursion reports...).

Good tip to like also the UK Facebook page. Maybe it is less "American".

I am 44 and from Finland.

  7. Beach towel clips. We saw many people had them on our last cruise on sunbeds to keep the towel not blowing away. Funny that they don't sell them at the ship's souvenir shop, X-letter shape, boat shape...

We went to an after cruise excursion in the Sawgrass Mills mall and found them. Whale and dolphin shaped, bought for all relatives as well.

Next time I will bring a cup or a basket for jewery, watches and hairbands. And magnets.

  8. One reason this won't happen (or I am not sure if I would want it to happen until the tech gets better) is that every bit of bandwidth the ships currently have is being used. Between pax and crew and official stuff from the ship the bandwidth is overtaxed as it is on the satellite. I have noted that as more Elites get more internet (and we didn't even use all of ours either on our last 14 day Canal crossing on Infinity) the connection slows down. It crawls now. I would hate to think what it would be like with cheaper internet.

Until the tech catches up, I am not sure this is feasible.

I believe this was a wish list for NEW Celebrity ships. I know what is happening now. Tech will catch up, it always does. And the new ships will be build many years from now with a new technology, so there will most likely be new technical solutions.

Or maybe the new thing is then "Internet free vacation". We will pay extra money so we will not be able to connect into internet.

I am an entrepreneur so I also need to check my work email too during vacation. It is not just for fun.

  9. As a Northern European couple in our 40's with no kids we really like the modern and luxury feel and decoration of the S class ships. Since the trip to Florida is so long and expensive we prefer taking long Caribbean cruises for 10-14 nights (yes we have 5 weeks paid vacation a year here).

As a representative of this customer type we would like:

    - More hanger and shoe closet space

    - More table space to put your everyday gear (mobile devices, make-up, bags)

    - Cheaper internet access (it is free marketing for the Celebrity if we share in the social media the cruise experience immediately as it happens)

    - Elevator or stairs also in the back part of the ship

    - Possibility to do laundry by myself (because of a long trip +2-3 weeks, delicate clothes and fragrance allergies)

    - Formal nights are wonderful

    - Theme parties at the deck outside in the evening, places to party and have dance fun (for example a Rihanna theme party after leaving Barbados island, reggae night after Jamaica)

    - Instructed excercise or dance classes

    - A good variety of new magazines to borrow at the library

    - A shampagne bar

    - A relaxed bar with a troubadour or a comedian club (to wear jeans and a casual outfit)

    - More "private" and calm sunbathing areas, yes we have found the one in the front upper deck

    - Possibility to watch new movies in a movie theater (inside is ok)

    - More places to have a breakfast of lunch outside in a warm weather (this is something that is exotic for us in the middle of the winter), outside tables are always taken.

To be honest, sometimes the ship on a longer cruise looks like an elderly home. I think Celebrity should ALSO focus and appreciate us 40-50 year olds who travel without kids. We will be cruising for the next decades and could become very loyal customers.

Any other views from other 40-year olds?
