  1. I am taking a "free" cruise to Alaska. I have 7 Star status with Caesars and I'm taking the free "annual voyage". The offer is for an ocean view room, which is what I booked. I selected the premium drink package, so total with taxes, fees, etc, is $1530. My question - will I get upgrade offers and/or have ability to bid on upgrades with it being a free cruise to begin with? Will i have to bid a lot more than others because my cruise is already heavily discounted?

I've typically started getting offers right away and haven't seen anything yet. I don't even see a way to explore upgrade options, but I'm a little more than 150 days out. I normally book 3-4 months out.

Lastly, I'm exploring other cruise options since I've read mixed reviews about Norwegian Bliss. If I cancel more than 120 days out, will my deposit be fully refunded? This is my first time sailing with Norwegian and only second cruise ever (with Holland America).

  2. Oh my gosh get on that phone and call them! Just tell them who you are and your current stateroom booking, and ask if there are any upsells available, start there. If they say yes, if you have a particular stateroom in mind, ask about it. It's easy to feel shy about these things but this is just business as usual for them. You never know unless you ask. If they say they can't do it, at least you tried. Hopefully though you might get a better stateroom assignment. We cruised 4 times on NCL, and the first three cruises we were offered better digs by the upsell fairy, but our last cruise was sold out, so no upsell that time. Good luck. :D

I called HAL directly about this roughly 2 weeks ago and was told I would not get upgraded for free because I indicated when I booked that I did not want any automatic upgrades. I was told there was no way to change that now and the person I spoke to said I would have to pay full price if I wanted to pay for an upgrade - around $1500 each, which I declined. I was given an e-mail address and told te only other thing I could do was send a note letting HAL reps in charge of such things know that I was open to an upsell at a discount, but I never got a response one way or the other. Now I'm wondering if the person I spoke to gave me bad info?

  3. Our last cruise on HAL last Christmas as a 2nd time HAL cruiser, we booked VH GTY, assigned a VB balcony. Then 4 days before sail date, received upsell offer of $249 pp to Signature Suite, or $649 pp to Neptune Suite. But by the time we call back they were all gone.

    Good luck.

I will be doing cartwheels if that happens to me. I would snap the Neptune Suite up for that price!

*Obsessively checking e-mail even more frequently now* :D

  4. We are on deck 5, also hoping for another upsell offer to a suite, but very happy with the cabin we have. We started with an inside, got an upsell to a oceanview, and then another upsell 6 days ago to the aft balcony. Would love to get an aft wraparound, but don't see that being in my budget.

Have you stayed in an aft balcony on the Eurodam in the past? I understand that they're larger than most of the other veranda rooms and have a bigger balcony too. Of course, that's all meaningless to me since I have no basis for comparison. :)

  5. Wasn't that great!

Possibly the OP is asking about an upsell, though.

You are correct. I didn't think about the two being different (upgrade vs. upsell). I noted that I didn't want an automatic upgrade when I booked, so I think that rules out the free upgrade option. However, I did tell HAL that I would be open to an upsell. I have been checking my inbox many times every day hoping some magical offer will be there. No luck as of yet, but there's still time, right?

P.S. Thanks so much to all for the input!
