By all means ride the HOHO, but be aware that this is a massively overpriced package which you can buy individual parts of easily and save buckets of cash by doing so...

Even without any discounts - which are frequently available online, and worst-case you can literally pick up a flyer with a discount code on at the tourist office just downt the street from the pier - the HOHO 'rack rate' price is CAD$65. Riding SkyTrain to the airport is at most CAD$4.55pp (go after 6:30pm weekdays, or any time on weekends, and that drops to $3.15 - Seniors and kids pay about a buck less per ticket), and you don't even have to use a ticket machine any more... simply tap a Smartphone with wallet enabled or a Visa/MC with the NFC chip to open the gates, do the same when you leave, and the system even does the math for you for the fare price based on day/time traveled!

The only component you cannot replicate these days is moving your bag - but if the markup remains the same this season as in the past, with adult rates of approx. US$80pp, that gives you at least CAD$37pp to pay for storing a bag for the day downtown (no more than $10 per bag) and could be $50pp if you buy the HOHO at a discount. If you really cannot manage to roll your suitcase around at all - as in you always get a porter at the airport and pier - then going DIY won't work, but for anyone capable of rolling their own bags around an airport you can absolutely manage the very short distance involved getting to SkyTrain from the pier (about 400 yards).

If there's two of you, the savings would buy you a cheap lunch AND cab fare to the airport instead of taking the train (expect to pay under CAD$40 unless you're traveling in rush hour). Plus, you won't have to go anywhere to find your bags in an unfamiliar airport!

    Hi,

where can you store your bags in Vancouver? We have a cruise booked for June and don’t fly home until 7pm, we have not decided when we have disembarked so any advice on luggage storage is appreciated.

we are flying in a couple of days pre cruise so will have done some exploring before 😊

  2. There's a thread on page 2 or 3 from tweetylori that has the daily newsletters scanned from October 2016's Transatlantic.

We were on the eastbound one on April 2016, there was always so much to do. The ship offered a lot, plus various people on the roll call had games, crafts, language classes that it was impossible to fit it all in.

Do you have the link for this review I have tried searching and can't find it x

  3. Thank you everyone for your responses.

I am happy to read that there is always something to do on the ship! We love Transatlantic's and as long as we can find something to do and a good conversation we are happy!

  4. Hi Everyone,

I am hoping that you can please answer some questions that I have and give us some insight.

My DH and I are looking at booking a Transatlantic on Sirena next year and am interested to know if people think we are too young to book Oceania.

We are in our 30's and have cruised celebrity up until now. We have found on the last couple of cruises that the level of quality and service on Celebrity is depleting and are looking for something better.

I have looked in the website and it doesn't really give much insight in to what day to day life is like on board. Can anyone give any insight to what onboard entertainment and activities there are?

At the moment there is the 'OLife' offer available when we book. If we do not have a beverage package what drinks are free/included?

Any insight as to what to expect onboard with Oceania is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

    Victoria

  5. Hello all! I need help with a Celebrity cruise booking made with threw a TA. Do they allow you to extend your due date for a month?

I would like answers from people with experience. I understand that I should be able to afford it if I'm going on a cruise. But with certain situations, I will need some time

    Thanks

I would Advise that you speak to your TA, they may have a payment date that is earlier than the cruise line need the payment. We book direct with celebrity in the UK and out payment date is always 56 days before travel.

Hope that you manage to arrange something

  6. We did the gift exchange on our TA last year, I really enjoyed it, not just the gifts we revived but also seeing all the lovely things people got.

We are from York, North Yorkshire, along with all its heritage its main attraction is York Minster and the little cobbled streets. We took some prints by a local artist. In return we got a small Pewter knife with a lobster on it from Nova Scotia and some Maple syrup [emoji3]

I am sure whatever you decide to get the recipient will enjoy it [emoji3]

  7. I am new to cruising ( been on 1 cruise got 7 booked). We pre paid our gratuities before we boarded and both purchased a drinks package. As I don't really know what the gratuities that we pre paid were for I just figured that I would imagine these didn't exist and just paid them.

This is what we did on our transatlantic crossing on reflection and will do again on the 7 we have booked:-

    Evening Dining

We were select dining every night with no guarantee that we would have the same waiter each dinner time so we made our tipping system quite simple $10 to the waiter and $10 to the assistant waiter, if we used the sommelier then he would get $10 too. This was the same if we were in a speciality dining venue.

    The Bars and Drink Servers:-

This was very simple, we have the person that we ordered our drinks with $1/$2 per drink, I know this might sound cheap but these were mainly soft drinks as the DH does not drink so a lot more diet cokes than Martinis. The exception was if I ordered the Martini Flight and then I think the DH gave $10 every time I ordered one. Cafe al Bacio was the same principle but I think it was $2 a drink.

    The Final Night:-

We decided that the people that really has impressed us across the 2 weeks really did deserve a little extra from us so we gave the those individuals, various larger tips on the final night ranging from $100 to all the team on the Martini Bar(we found out that they pool all their tips) the same for our room attendant (this was on top of smaller tips we have given him throughout the cruise) $50 for the head and deputy Maitre'ds down to the varying different amounts for the waiters and other crew.

I have just asked the DH if he has any idea how much our tips were over the course of the cruise and he just said ....."I don't know, does it really matter, they worked for it, they made our memories and it's only money" [emoji3]

I do believe that tipping is a personal choice and do not feel that anyone should be forced/guilt tripped/pressured to give tips. I met someone on our cruise that refused to tip anything as he said that his pre paid gratuities were enough!!

  8. Hi,

Are you having your interviews at the airport when you fly in?

I'm thinking of applying, just been on the uk gov website to read up about it.

    Any info would be appreciated.

    Thanks, Jo

    Hi Jo,

Yes we have booked our appointment for the day we land and have booked it for a few hours after arriving at MIA, as we are doing a transatlantic we are happy to wait a few weeks for the card.

We applied and it is a really straight forward process, the main selling point for us was the minimising time of getting through customs. All the details we found were on the embassy website too.

Just hope the interview is straight forward and isn't going to take hours.

  9. You are in for a treat! We have been on three cruises with Michael's Club now and loved it.

It is open all day and until well past 11 at night. Drinks are complementary and at present you can ask for almost anything. I have added the 'at present' as a Michael's Club menu has recently been printed, so many people do wonder if the range of drinks will reduce. Either way you will have a good selection.

In addition to drinks they do have some light breakfast offerings and little tasty snacks during the day. They will also serve speciality coffees. We do receive premium drinks packages but still tend to prefer Michael's pre and post dinner for its comfort, service and ambiance. Some evenings there is also some entertainment and one afternoon they will provide a very nice 'afternoon tea' event.

The conceirge can book your excursions and deal with any on board issues and your butler will sort out your dining bookings, serve you any in suite meals and generally spoil you! He will arrive about 4pm each day with an afternoon tea trolley just in case you cannot survive until your evening meal.

Even though you are not 'Elite' status (loyalty level) you will probably receive a sheet of coupons with some drink discounts, wifi discount and laundry options.

You will also have access to Luminae suite restaurant , priority boarding and disembarkation......we love the very sweet suite life!

    Have a wonderful cruise!

Thank you for this information, it's great to read, we have done concierge class for our last 2 cruises but the next 4 we have booked are all in suites.

  10. Quick question are the drinks in Michaels Club included in part of the beverage packages? We will be in a celebrity suite next year. We do not get a beverage package included with the cruise and as this will only be our own 3rd cruise so am not really sure what Michaels Club actually is And other than it only been for suite class what the benefit is.

Any help would be appreciated [emoji3]

  11. Celebrity is the first and only Apple reseller at sea, allowing our guests to purchase Apple products on board duty-free.

Can you tell me if you stock the IPad Pro onboard? If so can some one who is maybe going on board soon let me know the cost? Thanks
